Discussion / Question Sad for the devs, but Veilguard definitely helped dig the grave

Post image
0 Upvotes

BioWare is closing its doors. After more than 30 years of Mass Effect, Dragon Age, KOTOR… it’s over.

Really sad for all the developers who put their time and passion into these games. I genuinely hope every single one of them can bounce back somewhere else and keep making cool stuff. This sucks for them.

That said, let’s not pretend. Veilguard was a massive piece of shit. They tried to please a "modern" audience that doesn’t represent their actual community or the average player. Result? The game got hit with a huge backlash, sales tanked, and EA pulled the plug.

I just hope the devs and also the top management at EA actually learn from this mistake. Because doubling down on that direction was the fastest way to kill a legendary studio.

RIP BioWare.

Discussion / Question Does anyone else feels like most AAA games feel exactly the same? Like they are made out of template, and only story, times and localisation changes? Specially with studios like Ubisoft or Rockstar.

I have much more fun with games from smaller developers recently. I guess it's like with pop music, the bigger budget, the less risk and creative freedoms can be taken, but that leads to games that feels just meh. Maybe they appeal more to people who don't game a lot, so they're not fed up with it, but as a person who plays a lot in all kind of genres they are one of my least favourite games recently.

Thoughts?

Discussion / Question With BioWare closing, Microsoft has an opportunity.

Microsoft, if you’re listening. Buy the Mass Effect IP. And give it to Obsidian. Let them work on a new Mass Effect game. We know EA isn’t going to do anything with the IP. At least someone should try to make something out of it. And I believe Microsoft could win a lot of hearts after the shitty year they’ve had.

Honestly, I really want EA to just sale the IP to anyone interested. Would love another game in the franchise.

Discussion / Question It's fine that we're not getting ME 5. It would never have been good.

• Upvotes

Like, we know that if Bioware had of released ME5 it would have sucked.

Like listen, guys, I loved Bioware. Knights of the Old Republic was one of the first video games I played, and it might be the most formative video game experience I've ever had. Dragon Origins was excellent. Mass Effect is excellent.

But the company you love died so, so long ago. DA2 and ME3 were incredibly flawed compared to their predecessors, Inquisition as a story and as a game was a safe, corporate betrayal of what DA was about. Andromeda was a new low for shit games until Vileguard came and lowered the bar even further.

Bioware did not "die" today. It died so long ago that the corpse has stopped smelling. It was just skeleton being puppeteered on strings. And now those strings are cut.

Finally.

Discussion / Question Never Trusting Announcement Trailers Ever Again.

• Upvotes

After Metroid Prime 4's delay, Mass Effect 4's cancellation, Beyond Good & Evil 2 never coming out, and the Next Elder Scrolls being probably at least 5 years away does anyone else just have no interest in seeing game sequel announcements ever again without a release date or gameplay attached?

Edit:
1. Cyberpunk- I was well aware the game has many side quests which are in fact the main appeal of the game and i missed big time.

  1. You surely have better overall and balanced life

  2. I don’t play souls game or superhero stuff (but you don’t play real horror games so stf🐈pus, not intended for anyone)

  3. Did not commit to any game except my 1000+ hrs in hitman, cs, and gta 5 (before)

  4. apologies for fans of other games

  5. Next games: RD2, gears of war, silent hill townfall, control resonant, etc

  6. How could afford time and games?- I’m a lawyer who teaches law for 3-4 hrs only but does not practice litigation by choice (my job pays well, i think; and my parents have a bit of money, embarrassing to admit but hmm), no social life by choice since having a family. (I am immature so don’t be surprised)

and this is my last day on reddit too as i am getting addicted to this app and hence wasting time

i am just gonna go doom scrolling on Chris Hansen videos

good luck, gamers. Thanks (ahh awkward, cringe, and weird lol)

Discussion / Question Hope about the future regarding AI

I feel crazy but i have hope that AI slop will die in the future without any government intervention. Right now vibe coded AI slop video games are easy and cheap to produce because a lot of the compute needed to write code or generate images are subsidised by the invesment capital to fuel the AI bubble, but once it bursts it should be much more ecpensive and slow to make cheap clones. I just dont see the same hope in other discussions only despair so am i crazy to be hopeful?

Discussion / Question Genuinely how is riot games in business

They indiscriminately ban players. They don't stop account selling. They haven't fixed a singlular issue with vanguard or their clients in a year... They keep cancelling non league of legends games and all their animated projects take forever to come out. I play a decent amount of league per week and genuinely still don't understand how that business hasn't gone under. It has to be some of the worst customer service in the gaming industry and literally no one talks about it 🤔

Discussion / Question BioWare Shutting Down Not A Surprise

I'm being honest when I say that I'm more surprised they weren't shutdown after Veilguard. I miss old BioWare, but most of the talent that made the games we love haven't been there in years. And I'm not sure that the new Mass Effect wouldn't have been a mess either. Just my unpopular opinion.

Discussion / Question Why are game companies updates against what the players want so often?

It seems that every so often there is a big update/change/patch to some AAA game or game in general that gets negative press for going against what the players wanted, more so for online multiplayer games. And after one of these big updates the players end up even more upset generating even more YouTube videos and negative news.

But I never understand why companies push out these updates.

Shouldn't this rarely happen since the customers (aka the player) voice and opinion matter? Or am I missing something?

Help - PC Epic games or steam

Always played games on ps4

But i now have a gaming laptop

Cyberpunk 2077 is my favorite game and its on sale on epic games and steam

Is there any reason why i should buy it from one store rather than the other one ?

Or does it really make no difference since ive heard there may be some differences in performance due to how the store launch the gamed

Discussion / Question Who is the biggest IRL villain in the industry and why?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’m going with Peter Molyneux.

I’m not gonna discredit his contributions.

He’s made some bangers.

BUT…

Let’s just start with the fact that he received funding for his earlier games by lying to investors about his accomplishments and history in game dev.

And I can kind of excuse that, tbh.

But he is famously a tyrant with his staff.

He lies about features in every game.

He’s such a prick he’d make any EA ceo blush.

And he single handedly destroyed kickstarter and started the whole AAA devs using the indie platform to crush indie devs movement.

He had a multibillion dollar studio (lions head) and panhandles to the masses just to do the bare minimal not to get sued and pockets the difference rather than rely on sales.

Top that.

Discussion / Question Why difficulty debates such a heated debate?

I always wondered about this because this one debate I remember even having as a young child because of what's considered easy and hard. I've seen many different types like what's considered too easy or too hard, a game I'd harder than a soulsborne comparison, interjections about a game or difficulty game mode being easy to one person and hard/challenging to another, comments about playing the hardest difficulty is the best way to play a game, and artificial difficulty. These are the common discussions i can think of in relation to difficulty.

Even excluding modern games, there's still debates on the hardest games of old and what's considered artificial difficulty. Like why is difficulty such a long-standing debate at all?

Discussion / Question What do you think of AI use in coding ?

My personal opinion is that , as long as the assets and art are human made , I'm okay with it , it's like complaining that cars are built by robots and not piece by piece by a human , I'm talking about this because the ocarina of time pc port SOH has been exposed for using some AI tools to decompile the game

Funny $1800 for Helix, possibly $1200+ for the PS6... and people got mad for the humble $450 Switch 2 at release date.
