I work at a retirement "village" in the memory care unit. The monthly rent is 8k the residents rent the hospital beds $100 a week and recliners $75 a week. They are charged for everything. If they wish to eat a meal in their rooms they are charged $200 a month for someone bringing a fucking room tray to them. and I get $21 per hour. The system is fucked. And it makes me sick. Taking advantage to those poor vulnerable people.

We're busy building a cabin behind my house for my retired parents. It cost 1/10th the price they would've paid the retirement home for the next ten years, and now they can save that money for something like frail care or unforseen issues in the future.

This happens because the greedy retirement-biz scumbags know there are plenty of clients at just the right age to have life savings, investments, pensions, and social security to pay their outrageous prices. They will not have them 10 or 20 years from now.

u/Unlucky_Fuel7934 Sep 14 '26
Dude, you just described my best friends grandma, the family had to pull her back home BC they couldn’t afford the 8.4k a month, and she was being mistreated, and complaints were ignored. so yea, super messed up,

“If I could go back I think I’d be pan.. but there doesn’t seem to be any point in coming out now”
Hot take as a bi guy who didn't realize until after marriage: the "if I could go back" thing is the point to coming out now.
I mean I can't speak for your fiance, but part of the reason it took me so long is that although I knew the word "bisexual," I didn't know a single person — and certainly not a male — who was openly bi as a kid, or even in my 20s.
I think it helps all of us — but especially kids who might be questioning — to have actual examples around and in their lives. And even for other adults, imo life gets less annoying for all bisexuals if there are more examples of openly bi folks in monogamous relationships, helps undermine the stereotypes.

Agree! But then again, it properly represents half of the 30yo i knew. I wouldn’t hesitate to relive any period of my life, but 27 to 32 was a pretentious wine&cheese filled with boring people playing adult. In my experience, normality and fun came back in the mid-thirties. It’s a phase of identity search I think.
146
u/TheOriginalArchibald Sep 13 '26
Holy shit you captured it. I remember exactly that. "We're like adult adults now so we need to do adult things like wine tastings and expensive cheese, maybe a bourbon shelf, maybe start collecting mid-century thrift store furniture to look Mad Men chic." And everyone was all about Meyers Briggs and personal growth without having any clue in reality what any of it meant for them or if they'd even give a shit once they leveled out in their 30s. The 2010s... lol

I blame Hollywood and consumerism.
Go take a sample of random TV shows and movies, and you typically get people in their 20s playing as teenagers, people in their 30s playing as 20 year olds, and people in their 40s playing as 30 year olds. It effectively "ages everyone" and hurts the 30 age bracket the most.
Likewise, I think a lot of the idea you're not longer young in your 30s comes from capitalism. What I mean by that is, young people are easier, more valuable targets, and businesses know this, so they market at people in their 20s (and younger, all the way down to kids) as hard as they can. The moment you leave that bracket, you lose your easy target status.
So the moment you hit 30, they forget you, so you feel blindsided and like you're "old." However, when you realize legitimately the only demographic that is referring to you as old is the exact one being hit with the marketing tactics calling them COOL and YOUNG and SEXY, while everyone else from employers to doctors to even other people in their 30s are still calling you young, then you start to realize that 30s being old is one giant myth inadvertedly spawned from capitalism so that the people in their 20s (and younger) will eagerly eat that badge of pride up all the way to the cash register, never second-guessing it.
40 is probably what we should accept as old, 44 at the latest, and this has everything to do with this being the actual cut-off where the biology of the body itself starts screaming "YUP, I'm old!"

My younger sister (23) discovered my boxes 📦 from all my expensive electronics that I keep in a whole shelf of my entertainment console. She literally couldn’t stop laughing and was like “don’t let anyone ever see that”.

Ehh thats totally practical imo. If you sell something the best way to pack it is in the box and next users usually appreciate having the box. And sending shit back for warranty. How the fuck am I supposed to securely pack a vitamix for repair? I don't keep them but having a TV box would be amazing for any time you move. Am I supposed to just strap a 95" tv in to my truck bed and hope it makes it 50 miles?
I definitely keep my boxes for only those reasons and not some irrational box saving thing.

It's not 95", but I do have my TV's original box in my attic, and it has made my TV survive two moves. Absolute top tier strategy, if you have the space.

Real talk: I love a soft oversized sweater and a nice pair of loafers.

I know this is a joke, but also, don’t fall for this. I dress more colorfully now than I did in my 20s. I do like hummus, though.

I just turned 47 and have gone back to wearing whatever the fuck I want. The crazier the better. I can go from Adam Sandler to Bjork on a whim.

yeah, I'm 35 and would rather die than stop dressing in pastels and technicolor like the first girl.
boring and neutrals is for hiding yourself and blending in, and I'm not hiding myself JUST because I'm aging.

Same. I only want to wear pastels now. 😂 I do like things to be large, though, except leggings. I just cannot with tight shirts anymore.

I own a full length gray sweatshirt dress. It goes to my ankles! I'd probably shop there lolol
(I still own a lot of fun clothes, but they see the light of day less, esp with WFH.)

I love my Costco clothes.
But I also tell myself that this is temporary while I work off the baby weight.
And before that it was temporary cause it was Covid.
So all in all … I’m about 6 years in on my Costco closet conversion with no signs of slowing.
