Same. I got chin hair in my teens, but a LOT. It's pretty much a beard. I've been tested for PCOS, but it's apparently not that..
Nothing has worked either. IPL, laser, creams you name it. I've spent hundreds and hundreds..
I'd be very very happy if I had like, three or four chin hairs. I realize at 42 I'll be stuck with this shit for life though.
Do you have other symptoms of PCOS? Some doctors wont check everything, and drs can be VERY dismissive of PMOS. I didnt get diagnosed until late 20s when I gained 100lbs and my hair was falling out, despite having all the symptoms forever. I cant remember everything to checm off the top of my head, but reddit and facebook have tons of info!
What causes hair growth in PMOS is androgens. Hormone panel could help too. There might be other conditions mess with androgens/testosterone too!
I have no idea..
I got the weight gain and insulin resistance, but not the hair loss, and my periods have always been regular. There was a scan of my ovaries and they found no cysts at the time, though I heard my obgyn mention something about a small cyst before that. They looked at hormones too, but those seemed normal.
You have the symptoms of insulin resistance or test for it? Insulin was the reason I got dianogsed, my hormones were just barely off. But it was only until I got a new PCP who knew about it and cared. He basically dx our first apt. My previous ob/pcp both missed it and I was with them for years..
You dont have to have cysts to have PCOS/PMOS! That was one of the major driving factors behind the name change to PMOS, behind that it didnt accurately reflect the impact the disorder has on metabolism.
How it impacts periods also varies a lot per person. It can be on time, gaps without it, or really long periods. Alot of people have endometrosis too, which causes heavy bleeding.
I wish I could help more. Its such a shame you have been suffering with that for so long without a dr really trying to figure it out for you. For hirsutism we are prescribed spironolactone, which lowers androgens. There is medicene out there that helps, if they can find the cause.
Having a doctor who actually tries makes such a difference. I highly recommend a second opinion if possible. Someome familiar with PMOS. Getting dx changed my life so much!! I had no idea feeling that way wasnt normal.
I was tested for insulin resistance, not too long ago I was getting into the prediabetic range, but now I'm losing weight, so hopefully that gets better.. yeah you're right, I guess I just kind of resigned to being like this forever? I might take my doctor up on it, since it's a different one from back in the day.
Thanks for your replies ❤️
Have you tried electrolysis? I’ve had a couple appointments but life got in the way of finishing. Really want to continue since it’s the only FDA approved method of hair removal. I had paradoxical hair growth when I did laser treatment, but only on my chin. It worked as intended on my legs and everywhere else. Bodies are so strange (and annoying…)

I have the chin hair. It just seems it comes out of nowhere in seconds.
