I work at a retirement "village" in the memory care unit. The monthly rent is 8k the residents rent the hospital beds $100 a week and recliners $75 a week. They are charged for everything. If they wish to eat a meal in their rooms they are charged $200 a month for someone bringing a fucking room tray to them. and I get $21 per hour. The system is fucked. And it makes me sick. Taking advantage to those poor vulnerable people.
We're busy building a cabin behind my house for my retired parents. It cost 1/10th the price they would've paid the retirement home for the next ten years, and now they can save that money for something like frail care or unforseen issues in the future.
This happens because the greedy retirement-biz scumbags know there are plenty of clients at just the right age to have life savings, investments, pensions, and social security to pay their outrageous prices. They will not have them 10 or 20 years from now.
Dude, you just described my best friends grandma, the family had to pull her back home BC they couldnāt afford the 8.4k a month, and she was being mistreated, and complaints were ignored. so yea, super messed up,
Thankfully I work with amazing people for the most part. I helped take care of a former boss/friend mentor for about 4 years and realized that I enjoy the work. I gotta tell you it is very rewarding for the right people. And true caretakers are out there
I work in hvac and have work in retirement homes. The family that owns Aegis Living have a big old family portrait in their lobby and they just exude wealth and affluence, just sponging up what they can out of families and their loved ones and then flaunting it
Aside from the bed rental, it's the same for assisted living prices in my state. Everyone is taking advantage of sick and old people. As a sales rep. I got to know the centers so well that I would volunteer to serve or cook in the kitchen. The chef was always complaining that they could only spend 5-10 per resident, per meal, while the residents were paying 10k plus in rent every month.
I was in oxygen and medical device sales.
It sounds bad but honestly our office tried to make sure everyone who needed it had access. We had a little thing called hardship exemption and boy did my boss use it.
My favorite and also least favorite case was a mom who hadn't been able to feed her baby for almost a full day because her insurance didn't cover the necessary equipment. Her only option other than the exemption was to wait a certain number of hours and go to the hospital. It was my favorite because of the sheer relief we were able to bring them and the worst because her baby had to suffer that way in the first place.
The manager was a huge drunk who lost their nursing license due to a DUI before switching to sales, but was a hell of a lot more decent to people than the insurance company's AI program. We would deliver and sort it out later.
Yep and they ākidnapā them. It took a lawyer for my neighbors granddaughter to get her out of our local retirement home. She had to prove she had proper living arrangements before they released her.
THIS is messed up! I worked hospice for a decade and absolutely šÆ witnessed every aspect of this discussion and was paid $13 an hour and know what? I refused to quit until they fired me because somebody needs to be there for these people. And to advocate. And I would see Elder Care get called into peoplesā homes by people who thought they were helping and the state would come in and steal people from their own homes. Super messed up shit. Iāve been out for over 15 years now and I can barely type this without getting furious and nauseous.
Absolutely messed up! I worked in this same nursing home and saw some crap. Each person had a chip in their bracelets that would lock the doors from the inside if they were too close to the door. We had to put our employee code to leave but weād have to wheel the residents away from it in order for it to work. It would even block us. How itās still open is beyond me.
We recently had a resident pass. We found out after her death that she was about to be moved out because her scumbag kids stole every penny she had left, about 500k.
Yes, there will be a provision in the lease limiting the number of roommates. Landlords are sure to do crap like that to see if they can force your friends and loved ones to pay them rent. They'd put a provision in the lease saying each person must be allocated 5 acres of space.
The bobiverse kinda goes into this idea. A guy dies and wakes up like 1000 years later and his consciousness is being used to pilot an ai worker drone.
Sorry to disappoint ya Frank, but this is the internet. I was referencing how you could simply walk up, sign the guest book, and do the horizontal shuffle with a willing partner easily enough.Ā
A just assumed a bunch of is were gonna roll into an abandoned mall with a bunch of scrap wood and just build a community and claim squatter's rights when I turn 70
Right? My retirement plan is to just die. Let all the richies sit in the retirement home and stare out the window like my dementia riddled great aunt is doing right at this moment
My dad had to stay at a care facility for a month after major surgery.
I'll kill myself before I ever let that happen to me. Holy shit, they are literal crimes against humanity. I thought it was bad when my grandma was thrown in, but the shit they did to my father and all the elderly inside needs to land these corporate fucks in prison for life.
A whole lot of Blue Collar jobs do. Healthcare is notorious for it, but I'm in Heavy Equipment Repair. I drive a Field Service truck and fix anything from hospital backup generators, to compact construction equipment, to mining class equipment. I put about 1500 miles on the truck last week (and yes, I got Monday off and refused to work Saturday) going all over the place to fix dead machines. From Tuesday to Friday I worked 51 hours.
Right but 51 isn't 70 and the amount of Americans working 70 hour weeks is sub 5%, closer to 2%.
It's quite rare to get to the point of "almost working 2 weeks".
But yes it will largely be tradesmen and healthcare doing a brunt of these. Especially in service trades. I barely worked over 40 when I did non-residential new construction plumbing. But I also had the benefit of a union.
Also a 4 day week.
The week before was 65, the week before 74. The week before, 52. Highest I have gone was 94, but that was an extreme outlier because I was working out of town and worked all 7 days in the week which I almost never do.
My wife takes Sertraline, and there are times I wish she had that side effect... but then again, the last 2 times she has been ready to go I was very very much not, so, yeah.... again, thank God that isn't the only thing our relationship is based on....
Same but not sertraline lmao. I canāt complain about it to anyone in real life because they donāt get it. But itās so fucking draining. Iām tired.
It's the thing that's been hounding me for almost like fuckin years at this point, that people promised me would go down after my teen years, then my early 20s. I'm in my 40s and it's worse than ever.
Of course, of the extremes, I'll take extremely horny over not horny.
Watch out that 70hrs a week, I'm literally disabled and one of the culprits my doctor suspects is stress causing me to develop Fibro/Dysautonomia/IST and a bunch of other shit, from working 60-80hrs a week for a long time.
If the hours don't do it, the chemicals surely will. I'm quite sure it has contributed to my Ideopathic Brachial-Plexus Neuritis. Guarantee that it has contributed to my Carpal Tunnel and Tennis Elbow. Guarantee it has contributed to my multiple Bursitis occurrences. You know, fun times.
Is it an actual alternative to Duloxetine? Yes, I have GAD and SAD, but the Duloxetine is mostly pointed to my lovely Chronic Recurrent MDD. Not to mention, missing it for a day (let alone more) is.... scary.....
No idea. It's a lightweight antianxiety and I have it prescribed supplementally with zoloft, but it puts my libido sky fucking high. Can ask your provider if it would be a possible supplement for what you're currently on.
Yyyup. Guaranteed inability to get pregnant, not much else to do with your time, and a LOT of people suddenly single for very loneliness-inducing reasons is a very horny combination.
I hang out with the folks from the retirement apartments next to mine, because my dog made friends with their dogs. They've got stories, also there is always some sort of drama going on. Apparently Ricardo through a banger of a Labor day BBQ. So much so he was angry at Rhonda for not taking pictures so he could show management how it's done. š¤£
It's realistic. A lot of us are out here working two jobs, all the chores, school and work, long ass work, all the chores, sometimes kids. Exploring things takes TIME that we do not have or energy something else saps.
āSceneā does kind of sound like Iām hitting up clubs after work but thatās not really my āsceneā. My access to queer spaces only opened up after I met other queers in grad school (during covid even) and later exploring book club meetups.
Meeting new people let alone making new friends after your twenties is really fucking hard. I go through phases of efforts only at my therapistās insistence. It is work but Iāve had to learn the hard way that cultivating relationships, not necessarily romantic or sexual, are really essential to my overall health.
Work can be really draining. I remember the first few months of full time employment, I was disgusted with how much daylight I never got to see and how quickly I was getting out of shape. Your time is more valuable than you think.
It's true. I worked in an old folks home for several years. They a bunch of freaks in there. I worked in the kitchen so I didn't directly experience it, but I heard ALL the stories from the CNAs. It's funny looking at someone's grammie or pawpaw and knowing they a dirty nasty ass mf
You are willingly selling your libido, your energy, your life force, to mammon for material comfort which is clearly deeply unfulfilling. It's a choice you don't have to make. Life is so much more.
people in their 30s even jokingly looking forward to maybe having wild sex in retirement homes is peak millennial
granted, I'm on the side of people who probably should've grown up a bit more, but holy shit did most people I know get so fucking boring the moment their age began starting with a 3
Even if you know what you're looking for, finding it has its own challenges. My wife and I got together before dating apps were really around, and trying to find a "Unicorn" is fucking exhausting. Hell even just learning all the different terms like "unicorn" has been a lot on top of all our other responsibilities and obligations.

" I might be bisexual, but it's a little too late" that being said with the straight face and grayscale killed me š¤£
