News/Article Helldivers 2 gets hit by yet another review bomb as Easy Anti Cheat breaks the game's most ambitious mods

Anti-cheats for a Coop PvE game? Lmao.
481
u/xypin 11h ago
I don't want anti-cheat, but playing Monster Hunter (World, Wilds), it's wild to me when you get a cheater in a public lobby and the target dies almost instantly. Just do that offline if you want to cheat that badly... And even if you do, you might as well just cheat in items in the first place, why even go through the effort of joining a lobby?
I will never understand those players.
17
u/slimeyellow 9h ago
Yeah one time some exploiter joined my Elden ring lobby and marked all my content as complete and all my bosses as killed, basically ruined my entire save
182
u/detailteufel 10h ago
Yeah idk why people are trying to ridicule anti cheat for coop games, do they live behind a rock? There are large amounts of people who will ruin the fun for everyone by giving them cheated resources without anyone asking them, essentially making the whole game pointless for a player immediately.
16
15
u/GoldenPigeonParty 10h ago
I imagine because the simple solution is to drop that mission and start another.
The problem is saturation. Having to drop one game a month versus seeing one or two per day, even two back to back. It really has risen, and quickly. They had to do something before it became unmanageable.
11
u/yay-iviss Ryzen 5600x, 5060ti 16gb, 32gb 3200mhz 10h ago
Can make a sense if you know that is being cheated, and the game has the option to remove everything earned by cheat.
This is not the case in games like deep rock galactic, that you cannot know if someone have cheated, and someone can even give resources for you and there is nothing you can do, until you learns that is a cheat.
19
u/detailteufel 9h ago
In helldiver's once you get matched with someone who cheats resources you will receive 999 of each currency after the mission is over and then you never have to work towards unlocking anything again. So I have no idea what you are talking about the solution is definitely not to just leave the lobby.

The only thing I can imagine is they're achievement chasing and trying to get the "Complete X amount of multiplayer hunts", although it makes literally zero sense to insta kill the monster in a late game hunt when they could easily just join the starter hunt with overpowered gear and finish it 100 times and be done.

u/Zii23 PC Master Race 8h ago
My thought to this is why even play the game then. If you cheat in items that are hard to get you’ve cut out the grind and content leading to that item.
→ More replies (2)7
u/MoistProlapse 7h ago
Depends on how bad the grind is.
Dune awakening has a fucking shit grind, no matter the difficulty. There were actually blueprints that you could literally not get. They didn't fix that until recently, long after they knew about the blueprints not being in the loot table.
Remember the Battlefront 2 grind before the backlash? Over 2,000 hours to unlock 1 character, and would take years to unlock all of them. Or you could spend over $2,000, per character, which would be a morons goal.
They eventually backtracked that, after the backlash because of EAs response in the most down voted comment in reddit history.
So there are times where the grind is just absolutely fucking stupid.
17
u/Makisani 10h ago
Tbh there is people that join lobbies to ruin your game, mess with your stats and currency
5
u/MoistProlapse 7h ago
The most infuriating is when you're near extraction, and lobby leader kicks everyone else, and you're left holding your dick in your hand, gaining absolutely nothing from the half hour or so of what you played.

They just need to do what DRG does, have a setting for modded parties or vanilla parties.
117
u/Objective-Rip3008 11h ago
Drg doesn't allow you to farm in game resources to buy the premium content, they just sell cosmetic packs you can't earn in game. Different business model entirely that doesn't translate, if they just opened modded parties and said anyone who joins the mod parties gets unlimited premium currency to buy every warbond no one would play vanilla
27
u/klodmoris 11h ago
You can also just cheat the cosmetic pacs into the game and the only way to be found out is if you use a dev or streamer unique armor and get reported by another user who notices that
At least that was the way it qprked a couple yeara ago when I played

The new anti-cheat has been broken through and people can just cheat in SC again because EAC is meh, so now they still have cheater problem anyway AND some people are unable to launch their games, one step forward then an impressive sommersault backwards.

I'm not shocked lol I played a lot of helldivers for like the first year and the game has always been a complete mess
17

People have used DRG as an example in the helldivers subreddit and im telling yall that shit doesnt work
Vanilla player can still join modded lobby. It always annoy me when i accidentally join a modded lobby cuz people dont mark their lobby as modded and my potato laptop get nuked from the increased mobs spawn. One time i got a player using semi automatic "fat boy" grenade launcher (nuke launcher). Mfs digged a big ass tunnel through the entire map using that damn thing

Helldivers has the worst community on the entire internet. They've long since eclipsed the toxicity of old moba communities.
Everything AH says or does causes a riot. They're rabid and angry all the time. There's no pleasing them. Its made worse by the fact that AH is the most useless and glacial dev AAA team I'm aware of. Even dice releases new patches faster than them.

Only because people figure dout how to spawn premium currency or made mode that made it easier to farm.
Only time Arrowhead fixes their game is when it affects their bottom line.
Meanwhile the game has like 250 bugs that have been present for over a year. The devs outsource all of their content and don't test anything.
Vox engines were on the game for 6 months before they even patched any issues with them despite being release without being tested.

I take it youve never played these types of games where a cheater joins your lobby. It ruins the game so fast. Im glad you've never dealt with this sort of thing before but it happens a lot. It happens in PvE games all the time. I had a match in nightrein where someone joined with cheated items. They were one shotting bosses and enemies. It wasn't fun at all. If you leave the match you get hit with a penalty for leaving. You're stuck waiting for it to be over to report them. I hope you learned something today. It knew in the beginning and people refused to learn the game before complaining. There were 9 difficulties that were pretty solidly balanced imo but they had to destroy that version of the game to appease a wider audience that they never expected to have. Nowadays it’s just a Frankensteined mess of trying to make too many different groups happy.

It doesn't, developers and PR people have had conflicting messages on it and different developer teams work on different elements so an update will release to solve a problem and also make the problem worse because neither team could agree on if it was even a problem.
3
28
u/CapableCollar 11h ago
The secondary subreddit that claimed the bugs causing the game to freeze didn't exist even after the devs acknowledged it.
3
u/GeneralBullshit 7h ago
I remember maybe two or three months after launch there were back to back 2 weekends where 2 bugs were preventing players from playing, the secondary sub was cheering that the devs were making them “touch grass”. A “they can do no wrong” mindset is just as bad as chronic complaints.

Regardless of why someone leaves a review, they have a Xenu-given right to have a voice and leave a review.
Review Bombing is just a PR spin on bad reviews. Those bad reviews are still valid, even if you see them as childish or petty.

I don't like cheating and a few folks sure did abuse the system - the thing is?
That the devs broke their game's systems, you can't land hellpods where you want to as they actively fight you from landing on higher ground- so you can't even go OVER some higher ground. You also don't land anywhere near where you're called in. You USED to be able to weaponize your respawn by landing on an enemy. Now? That's harder to do and your friend can't call you on your stuff. Sometimes you'll land behind a wall.
Stratagem balls (the things you use to summon in weapons, turrets, air strikes) bounce and a turret you were going to land in a specific spot so it'd have a good angle? NOPE, bounces, and falls typically in an awful, useless spot.
These two things have been broken for over a year. Arrow Head promises that they'll fix it and will assemble a team but it's 'low priority'. So anyway a modder comes in, finds the code and fixes it in days. So when Arrow Head breaks this? Yeah, everyone is mad. Rightfully so.
Because yes, the guy used AI to do it (which I'm not a fan of) but the devs who have access to the code, knows where it is? Can't fix it. And for full transparency: I did not use any gameplay altering mods, not one. Zero interest in doing so. My point is that modders did what AH couldn't do in a short times-span.
The likely reason is, they want to monkey-paw this. "Fix it" but also make it still not to what it was before the devs broke it so it can fit in with their nonsense grunt-fantasy.
Edit: I love this community. You point out the game's mechanics are factually broken, even Arrow Head admits it & has taken over a year to fix them. Folks want to say skill issue? Defending a game that the devs have admitted isn't working as intended is sad.

"Grunt Fantasy" as if D10 isn't the most pathetically easy thing on Earth and powercreep hasn't been the primary state of the game for most of the game's lifespan.

I mean when you've got people that can come in and essentially give you enough credits to unlock everything without having to farm for them it kind of makes sense.

u/padwani i5-9600k - 2070 - 16GB DDR4 3K MHZ 11h ago
They've been reducing SC spawns a for almost 6 months.
People that farm in d1 have said they receive almost 50% less than the beginning of the year.
D10 missions literally only have 20 sc per a mission. Despite the planet or biome is doesn't change.
They've added 2 more bundles to the store.
It takes like 4 hours to farm 800 SC which still isn't enough for a warbond and it like 8$ worth of sc for 4 hours of farming.

u/NekCing i5-14400F | RTX 5060 Ti | 32gb RAM 10h ago

7
u/padwani i5-9600k - 2070 - 16GB DDR4 3K MHZ 9h ago
Cyberstan itself is a city which they said would have reduced spawns off the rip.
The real issue is when regular biomes like the ones that were in the game when it launched spawn less credit than they did a year ago. People say around 50% less.

There is no evidence of any change to sc spawn rates ,its random and higher difficulites have other items in the loot pool which is why dif one is preferred for farming.

I’m going to assume that most of the review bombing is because of a “straw that broke the camel’s back” moment (at least from the few that I read), since Arrow Head are notorious about fixing glitches and monitozation, but if this is the only reason then this is just kinda petty. Probably could’ve been fixed by a reasonable email between the devs, just in case this was simply a misunderstanding.

The game is really good, and that others use mods doesn't affect your game. Its PVE not PVP. And you can create your own lobby.
Game really needs some QoL and minimal improvements.
A huge amount of mods do that, while other lets you pilot a npc ship or bring some whacky stuff. Its amazing to see what people have created.
Changing anticheat its a dumb move. They dont add the QoL improvements while removing mods that do, the community feels neglected, and everything feels really uncalled for.
This game could be even bigger with all the modding but it seems that AH (devs) feels touched in the ego.

Mods can affect how others enjoy the game. If I go into the highest difficulty, I do so because I enjoy the challenge. If there is no challenge because someone is just gung ho murdering everything with cheats, and perfect rewards everyt time, my experience is ruined.

It saddens me that people are too fucking stupid to realize this. It's like playing Wordle and using ChatGPT. I once had a guy in our group cheat to beat Dark Souls 3 then brag about beating it.
I'm thoroughly convinced people use mods and cheats to show off to other people.

The reason they changed anti cheat is a good thing. The old one was notoriously resource heavy. This new one gains 5-15 fps, it’s a very noticeable difference. They didn’t change the anti cheat cause of mods, mods breaking were a byproduct cause they were set up to work around/with the old anti cheat. People will re-make or update the mods to work with the new one and it’ll be like nothing changed in a week or two. This is a nothing burger story.

Mods really just happened to get caught in the crossfire. The switchover to EAC has been in the works for months.
7
u/Woffingshire 9h ago
The problem was that others using mods DOES effect your game.
There were a lot of mods which changed stuff about gameplay and it would effect all the players in the mission regardless of if they had mods installed.
That, and exactly that, is why AH banned them .if people just kept them client side, or only used them in private lobbies like they had been until recently, and this wouldn't have happened.
Modders flew too sun and got burned.

There are ways to allow visual mods and block game modifying ones. Tons of gsmes do this.
Maybe even make a modded launcher that doesn't effect the game world but yiu can play eith game changing mods with friends or make joinable games. It's coop why not!?
I'd love to see a visual change of adding a simple cheap GTAO to the game. If a level is all in shadow and overcast it looks shit. If there is a strong light and shadow with ambient fog it looks incredible

How can you say cheating doesn't ruin PVE games?
I was playing with my Nephew, he's 16 on PSN. He saw me and a friend using certain warbond weapons and was envious so he grinded for like 5 hours one night to get the same guns. He was so excited and kept talking about it.
Later he went to invite his friend to play with us who had everything unlocked and the poor boys attitude dropped as soon as he realized his friend had every single item in the game with 15 hours on record. His strategems could stick to things ours couldn't and so many more "quality of life" things. I don't think he's played it since.
Point is. If you cheat in a PVE game. It's still cheating. You're still a piece of shit. I'm fine with them adding modded lobbies only, but here's the fun thing..... cheaters don't want to play with other cheaters. Why is that?

See, this here.
Cheating in a singleplayer game is fine.
But cheating in any MP game isnt. I did not think this was a difficult concept, if I logged into Darktide and played with cheaters I would be similarly unhappy. But because these people have been negatively affected (me to, I modded my armor) they are pissed.

Skyrims a great example. I mod the shit out of that game. But if I were to play a coop mod with a friend and went in without telling him I had crazy mods and he was expecting a genuine playthrough, I'd be a fucking asshole and waste his time.

Oh yes it does. I had one guy have some kind of mod to make stalkers visible, not only a little but bright pink. The drawback was that the mod was messed up and made small bugs invisible.
Bad mods and cheats can mess up a PvE game too.

Anyone who thought they would allow modding that impacts other non-modded players in game experience was delusional.
Things like armor transmog and other QoL mods were unaffected or can be patched to still work.

Because there's plenty of mods that aren't really actual cheats that are no longer usable.
Would you consider things like reverting the hellpod steering to its pre-nerf mechanics a cheat?
2
u/DaStompa 9h ago
I dont know, if you made a game and a small percentage of the community decided they didn't like one of your gameplay decisions so they cheat to get around it so they dont have to take a specific booster, would you call that a cheat?

Ask around the glazedivers subs, they will tell you that it is, in fact, cheating (somehow, don't ask me how, they are deranged)

u/VBgamez 10h ago
I mean you technically are using mods to give yourself an advantage that a normal player wouldn't have.

One of the most whiny and toxic communities to exist.
They forced the devs to constantly nerf enemies, and buff weapons, trivialising all of the difficulties, because most of the player base couldn’t accept being bad at the game, but of course they wanted to feel the sense of accomplishment without having to gitgud.
At the same time, the same community was downvoting and flaming anyone who dared to go to their sub and point out actual issues/bugs with the game (at least in the first few months after launch).
Unfortunately the game is another example of casuals ruining it for everyone else, god forbid there is challenge at highest difficulty for those who want it.
Now these people don’t even understand how modding works in general, but they are ready to burn everything to the ground - despite majority of those whiners having 1k in-game hours.
Honestly I just check game specific subs for news/memes/content discussion, but most of them are small echo chambers for critically online losers.

Now if only the devs would buff the weapons that actually required it... then maybe you'd have a point.

Same thing is happening in Arc Raiders right now.
Begged the developers into adding a safe PvE mode in an extract shooter. Defeats the entire point of an extract shooter.

Helldivers loves getting reviewbombed huh

u/twosevenohfour Deep Fried Noodles 4h ago
It's because Arrowhead caved in after the first big review bomb. The entitled part of the community reckons they can keep getting away with it. The game is too easy now even at max difficulty but a portion of the playerbase still wants to have the power level of Master Chief, instead of the brainwashed teenager with a rifle and a dream that Helldivers are meant to be.

I've said it before and I'll say it forever: bringing HD2 to Xbox was the single worst decision in the game's history. I know it sucks for the good Xboxdivers, but it came at a HUGE loss in pc/ps5 stability and we're STILL waiting for some fixes (Hellpod steering).
But seriously fuck the usual review-bombing cunts, and DOUBLY TRIPLY fuck these particular cunts who want to run cheats.
And no, I'm no Arrowhead stan. I bitch plenty about their actual actions, but these cunts just want to run cheat mods.

It was fun while it lasted, solo tank driver with 360 turret. Transmog, bug fixes, QOL mods. But in the end it will make the game stale, more easy. This is good for the games heath.

u/SushiJaguar 7h ago
I'm loving how people are pretending to care about QoL and cosmetic mods when it's actually the cheat mods they've rapidly developed a dependency on, that they're upset about. Fucking losers.

u/RankedFarting 5700X3D/ RTX 2070/ 32gb 3600Mhz 10h ago
That is not a "review bomb" that is just reviews.
Review bombing is an organized effort ot lower a games score for reasons that have nothing to do with the actual quality of the game. Like "you fired this voiceactor reeee" or "The main character is black reeeeeee".
Dont let Companies hide behind this term that implies the negative reviews are unfair.
2
u/AquaBits 9h ago
So this is considered a review bomb. Hell, even the subs of helldivers 2 say its a review bomb

For context: some of those mods fixed long-standing bugs and issues. They fixed hellpod steering and strategem bouncing. Those were QOL issues and without those the game is kinda miserable to play - ragdoll yeeting stuff on the other end of the map, your strategem bouncing off a flat plane to land where it can't hit anything, not being able to land where you want because of a dumb invisible wall...
