They sure do love a review bomb. Kinda loses meaning this far into a games life.

Eh, Steam page separates all reviews from recent reviews. Normally recent reviews are what flags people the most as well.

In like the first 3 months after release the main subreddit splintered with the secondary one aimed at actually enjoying the game instead of complaining.

Good to see nothing has changed

HD2 has the most balkanised reddit community I've ever seen, it has like what, 15 subs?

u/CompanyToiletGooner 11h ago

More balkanized than actual balkans

It’s because people didn’t actually want what Helldivers was offering and have spent 2 years trying to get “their” version out into the world. It’s killed that game for me.

u/The-Green 11h ago

i don't think helldivers 2 even knows what helldivers 2 is offering judging by the crazy cycles the game had over the years.

u/TheGr8Slayer 11h ago

It knew in the beginning and people refused to learn the game before complaining. There were 9 difficulties that were pretty solidly balanced imo but they had to destroy that version of the game to appease a wider audience that they never expected to have. Nowadays it’s just a Frankensteined mess of trying to make too many different groups happy.

It doesn't, developers and PR people have had conflicting messages on it and different developer teams work on different elements so an update will release to solve a problem and also make the problem worse because neither team could agree on if it was even a problem.

Sounds like what Arc Raiders is going through tbh

The secondary subreddit that claimed the bugs causing the game to freeze didn't exist even after the devs acknowledged it.

u/GeneralBullshit 8h ago

I remember maybe two or three months after launch there were back to back 2 weekends where 2 bugs were preventing players from playing, the secondary sub was cheering that the devs were making them “touch grass”. A “they can do no wrong” mindset is just as bad as chronic complaints.

u/CapableCollar 8h ago

That sub is probably the clearest example of toxic positivity I have seen with stuff like that.

Idk everyone was having so much fun I joined up and bought the game excited for basically space doom blowing fucking shit away only to find they nerfed like all the really big boom fun shit

Isn’t this true for just about every game sub?

Yeah there’s usually a “low sodium” sub for people that want to just enjoy a game. I’m also starting to think that there should be age requirements on some subs. These kids love controversy and drama and I’m starting to think they enjoy arguing online more than they like playing video games.

I mean, the immense war thunder review bombing happen 10 years into the game life. And kinda worked (at least at the time)

Is it “review bombing” or just… reviewing?

Regardless of why someone leaves a review, they have a Xenu-given right to have a voice and leave a review.

Review Bombing is just a PR spin on bad reviews. Those bad reviews are still valid, even if you see them as childish or petty.

-10

u/Baxxtabb 11h ago

Review bombing does exist. When you review something disingenuously negative, it is review bombing.

14

u/TheGrimmBorne 10h ago

What decides on what’s disingenuously negative? The current “review bomb” is due to changes that have negatively effected a lot of players time playing the game, id say if the game has changed for the worse you should leave a negative review

-3

u/acdgf 9h ago

What decides on what’s disingenuously negative?

Generally speaking, only active players are entitled to make earnest reviews. Non-players reviewing a game they haven't played because it goes against some principle that they have is considered disingenuous.

I don't know if this is what's happening or not. But that's a case where a review bomb isn't just reviews.

7

u/TheGrimmBorne 9h ago

In order to review a game on Steam you have to own said game, they can’t review it if they’re not players

-14

u/DreamsServedSoft 11h ago

theres no such thing as review bombing, it’s just a term game devs and game journalists made up when the players go against the narrative and they can’t do anything about it

3

u/BigAssGear 11h ago

You are incorrect

3

u/frenkzors 11h ago

Do you honestly think that all of those movies that get targeted on IMDB or RT are actually all deserving of a 1/10 score? That those scores are appropriate and reasonable?

Tommy Wiseau’s The Room currently sits at a 3.6 / 10 on IMDB. Are these review bombed movies actually worse movies than The Room in any way?

Same principle here.

0

u/cayde123 10h ago

And if a lot of people review the game negatively based on something not related to the game at all?

-6

u/Baxxtabb 11h ago

This is such a silly statement dude. Utterly asinine

-3

u/BlaBlub85 10h ago

Laughs in Paradox

No seriously, everytime they introduce something in HoI4 the Turks/Chinese/Indian hardcore nationalists dont like the reviews get nuked to hell. They even reviewbomb other Paradox games like Stellaris that got nothing to do with HoI4 other than being from the same publisher

The idea of a review bomb is getting a big chunk of the community to unite and all drop negative reviews at once. This shows the shareholders directly that yes, the game needs changes, and forces the devs and/or their CEO's to make changes.

Normal bad reviews spread out over a more normal time scale just hurt the performance of the game. Still valid, but not effective at making changes happen with AAA games.

Problem is, they don't work when it becomes the first thing people flock to. First time? Absolutely, a good review bomb can and has had a fantastic effect. Helldivers and war thunder are both examples of effective review bombs in the past.

After that, though, any little problem or controversy spurs a tiny chunk of the playerbase to try a review bomb, and it loses its effect. The drama and scale isn't there, it doesn't work, and next time will be even less effective. Its just another case of the modern internet having zero self control and taking everything way, way to far.

u/Wiseon321 3h ago

Obviously it’s bombing.

Look at the amount of reviews.

For a live service game that's constantly changing and evolving, recent reviews are much more helpful and insightful than overall reviews imho.

3

u/CascadianCanopy 12h ago

Tbf HD2 is one of the few successful live service games so I can see it having an impact but it is kinda overblown in this context

"Successful" is a broad term, I highly doubt it is comparable to destiny/destiny 2 revenue wise (and player wise), it's just a small company with a profitable game and that's it, cheap to maintain, cheap to update, even if 99,999% of player hyperfarmed and didn't purchase supercredits it would still be profitable to keep up, any destiny 2 cosmetic purchase probably generated more revenue than any helldivers 2 warbond purchase with supercredits. The biggest profit probably comes from the game price itself, and the live service is just a selling point for the game itself too

u/TheGr8Slayer 11h ago

It lost meaning after the second time. They just throw tantrums nowadays.

-4

u/pho-huck 9800X3D | 5080 | 32Gb 11h ago

The entirety of the gaming community due to social media and streamer culture.

-3

u/GuerrOCorvino 10h ago

That's just wrong. Almost every single major change to this game has come from the community being angry.

u/RainstickFoDays 11h ago

Managed democracy at its best

-7

u/Aquagrunt 12h ago

They're the most entitled community I've ever seen. It's nuts

Cosmetic mods are also working fine, this is a complete nothingburger that overly online individuals are mad about

1

u/AwarenessForsaken568 12h ago

Bullshit.

5

u/Aquagrunt 11h ago

well shit, don't take my word for it. this is from the arsenal mod manager discord

I can also say my own cosmetic mods are working fine.

-2

u/VenserMTG 11h ago

No it doesn't. I wanted to come back for the mods, but I'm not going to bother now.
