DISCUSSION Let's be real, there's a near 0% chance the next Mass Effect would have been good anyway.
-For one, very few of the talented people that made the trilogy such a resounding success were on board for this, just Casey Hudson really as a token spearhead. the development team was reportedly miniscule from the start, and even smaller after DA:Veilguard bombed,
-Being stuck in "early development" for 6 years implies some cosmic degree of development hell that would make Andromeda and Veilguard look like blissful, smooth productions. we'd probably be pushing 10+ years by the time this thing actually came out,
-on that note, Andromeda and Veilguard were beset and beleaguered by poor management from the top that clearly hampered them to a massive extent, EA's complete inability to properly take advantage of a successful IP by actually crafting that IP with its fans in mind is at this point the stuff of legend, and no I'm not talking about some culture war bullshit about how Andromeda had too many female turians or whatever,
I mean why were these games (and Inquisition, which was still good in spite of it) these quasi-MMO-lite/gather/fetch-athons instead of structured experiences built around story-beats and designed, structured environments/missions which is what made DA:O, and the ME trilogy so resoundingly successful? the answer is simple enough, The games needed to be everything at once, and ended up as nothing.
I don't have even a modicum of faith that the same wouldn't have happened to The Next Mass Effect.
honestly the big surprise in this entire sequence of events is that "The Next Mass Effect" was even announced, not that it's been killed. I never got my hopes up until we started seeing more, and after 6 years, realised it was already basically dead in the water regardless of this announcement. so I can't find myself too disappointed.
