DISCUSSION Probably for the best

Honestly I don’t think the current BioWare could have delivered something really groundbreaking. Maybe another studio will get the rights and do something interesting in the future. Either way I’m not devastated by the news.

Agreed. Nothing about the current industry gives me any hope. We would have just got slop, probably AI slop at that.

I am hopeful the return of Josh Sawyer as lead in the fallout series produces something decent. I hope something similar happens with Ex bioware members.

Shame EA probably will never sell the rights to mass effect and just shit on it for decades.

From the people going around talking about they were writing it, and the complete silence from Mary DeMarle, I'd say you're right, and honestly, I think we dodged another bullet.

It's sort of like when your pet dies, but they were already really old and sick for a long time prior.

Like, you miss them, and you're sad that they're gone, and you wish they could have stuck around and make a miraculous recovery, but that was never going to happen. The good times have been over for a while, and they've needed the long rest for a long time.

Very good analogy

Listen I get you guys are sad over Mass Effect but these are real people who worked at Bioware. Families may have lost their main source of income after they closed down

I don't think it's current BioWare that people are mourning, tbh.

People are mourning the Mass Effect series as a whole, since even if the IP is eventually sold, there'll be most likely be a long hiatus in ME content now.

And people are mourning the BioWare that was - an industry titan that, like other trailblazers like Origin Systems, helped define the western RPG landscape. And the BioWare that brought us unforgettable stories and adventures, across so many happy years.

But I think few people are mourning the BioWare of 2026. As you alluded to, it's an empty shell of a far greater company that once stood in its place.

The writing (or the lack thereof lol) was on the wall. The last decent game was from 2014. Andromeda was unfinished jank. Anthem hot garbage. Veilguard even bigger hot garbage. They had nothing to go for them and they destroyed their one succesful fantasy franchise by making it a lecture about morals instead of delivering grim fantasy with lots of violence.

I strangely feel nothing but indifference about this. They were long gone for me. The last game I really sunk my teeth in was Inquisition and that was 12 years ago. I just moved on. Being the godfathers of western RPGs is not enough to stay around forever. You gotta deliver, and they haven't.

Hopefully something good will come from this

Yeah that even may be a blessing in disguise. For now I’m interested in The expanse game who look a little like mass effect.

That's it, you did all the stages of grieving.

Of course it wouldn't have. Mass Effect Andromeda was the worst fucking thing, until Vileguard came along and was somehow even worse.

I love DA and ME. I'm glad I don't have to watch them being tarnished anymore than they already were.

Don't forget the massive failure that was Anthem.

Never played it actually. Knew better.

Same. It looked cool in the trailers (of course what doesnt), but I never buy games on release and it didnt take more than a couple of days to be vindicated in that decision when it came out. Holy shit that was such a dumpster fire.

Yeah I rather have nothing than the equivalent of veilguard in space

Smart.

I’m devastated for the people who found their dreams jobs at a historic, prestige studio only to lose their livelihoods in order to make some immensely wealthy individuals slightly wealthier.

It would be great if CD Projekt Red could get the rights to the next game. I think they would give the property the love it deserves.

after Andromeda, Anthem and Veliguard I was afraid of the next Mass Effect, in a sense Im relief they are not going to have the chance to massacre my baby, at least Andromeda didn't completely destroy the Mass Effect name, is a mediocre game at best, but a game like Veliguard with the mass effect name would break my hearth

Finally they pulled the plug and put the studio out of it's misery. At least we don't have to witness mass effect getting the veilguard treatment and ending as a laughing stock

Perhaps - I actually liked all of the BioWare games I’ve played, and so would’ve at least liked to have seen if they could’ve recaptured the high points of the original trilogy. Perhaps not, but I would wager I would’ve enjoyed the ride even if it’d been a solid 7 out of 10.

I think it could have gone either way, I would have at least liked to see the new ME launch and then the future of the franchise be determined by the results of a project they announced years ago

This is known as the bargaining stage of grief
