Forever Beta Feedback Unintended outcomes of the Dungeon XP Nerf

  1. Monster Skip Runs [ More than just end game dungeons ]

  2. Hard Reserving of low level gear [ Not just Cruel Barb ]

  3. Less Tank and Healers leveling [ You see them say it every day on reddit since the nerf ]

  4. Tanks and Healers charging for their services for low level dungeons [ Not just end game ]

  5. Less dungeons begin ran [ Meaning harder to find groups ]

  6. Less social interactions [ Dungeons were the group activity, questing is primarily solo ]

  7. Some dungeons being skipped entirely [ Alliance have no reason to run Shadow Fang Keep since there are no quests and no mob XP ]

There are more issues than just these, I normally just run a dungeon 3-5 times now trying to convince people to do that will be drastically harder.

why would cloth users help me do Scarlett Monetary Armory?

Will people just Skip SM Cath because you have to clear all mobs?

We have never had to ask these questions before and this is why people are so passionate about it, we are supposed to be playing this version Forever.

Just make Boosting a lifetime bannable offense.

Since I get such little xp in a group, why would I not just ask my 60 friend to run a dungeon for the quests and loot and be done in 10 min

This is the new dungeon boost. 60 carries four people for quests or one person pays extra for quests, all quest items and loot. Continues to alienate the low level community and nothing breaks terms of service.

I can already see this coming, the alt ready to share the quest the main that carries you in and out in 10 min for a nice chunk of xp.
Add a warlock summon and you have the perfect boosting service

u/no_terran 6h ago

The warlock is the alt

•

u/So_Full_Of_Fail 4h ago

Quest shares are global, you don't even need the one with the quests to be at the dungeon.

•

u/TheHawthorne 4h ago

Surely not

•

u/So_Full_Of_Fail 4h ago

Sharing quests is 100% global in the beta. If you're partied up you can share the quests from anywhere in the world.

•

u/BishBosh2 4h ago

Have they confirmed this is how it's suppose to be? Seems a little odd to start seeing people asking for certain quest shares in global/general channels

•

u/So_Full_Of_Fail 4h ago

There has been no mention of the behavior being this way in any blue post that I'm aware of. It has been this way since day 1 of the beta.

i mean cool but i dont really give a shit. im just going to play how i feel like playing.

u/Cloudsbro 5h ago

Million dollar idea

50

u/Turtlesaur 6h ago

its a no brainer for sure. Boosters will just have an alt with all the quests to share.

•

u/SuiBee_ 4h ago

Ask yourself what would be Blizzard's response?

Nerf the dungeon quest xp.

Lock out any +10 level character from joining the dungeon when grouped with any character not in that level range.

Any other number of options to further kill this behavior.

•

u/Yonahuyetsgah 4h ago

After a month or two and the player pop nosedives they will be too checked out to give a fuck.

•

u/KnaxxLive 1h ago

Revert the XP changes for people that are appropriately leveled for the dungeon and keep the nerfs for any group with one player that has outleveled the dungeon.

This is like a no-brainer.

•

u/Impossible-Food-3250 25m ago

Probably prevent people from sharing dungeon quests entirely because "picking up Quests yourself was always the main character" or some bullshit.

1

u/AceInSpvce 5h ago

Difference is the quests grant experience one time just as if players were to run them without someone helping them. It can’t be repeated afterwards all the way to 60. So I guess if that’s the new boosting i’m happy with that over people getting carried the entire way.

funny seeing this upvoted, i saw a thread near the beginning of beta saying this and it was downvoted and everyone in the comments was shitting on him saying how stupid this would be to do

-5

u/nickpaz21 8h ago

well tbf this is a more healthy boost than sitting in a dungeon for 6 levels then going to the next dungeon for 6 levels. If you can get a 60 to help via a friend or paying gold then its just one or two runs and youre back in the open world

15

u/Cloudsbro 7h ago

Perfect then people will sell the service and we are right back to boosting again. Self inflicted problems for blizzard once again.

1

u/SuiBee_ 5h ago

No, this is how you get the quest xp nerfed as well.

0

u/nickpaz21 7h ago

my point is that there will always be some form of a boost without an invasive limitation like "If mobs are grey level then you can't enter the dungeon." Im comparing the original boosting (sit at the entrance of a dungeon lv10-60 while a mage clears the dungeon 5 times in an hour) vs the new one (have a high level run you through ONCE to complete quests then you return to questing in open world)

5

u/Cloudsbro 7h ago

I dislike both options truthfully, Its on the developers of the game to find a way to stop these things from happening while also respecting the players time and agency.

u/ThatLeetGuy 7h ago

The major deterrence of the old boosting method is how long it takes, how boring it is, and how expensive it is. I tried the Maraudon mage boost one time in Anniversary just before the TBC release and it was so mind numbingly boring that I told myself I would never do it again after one day of spending hours AFK at the dungeon portal being unable to leave my computer or do anything productive for the day. It made me question if it was even worth doing and eventually I stopped after a few levels so I could go back to playing the actual game and enjoying it.

Now the boosting is so easy, quick, and convenient that anyone with the gold to pay for a summon and then one or two runs to get all the quests done in less than 30 minutes will see it as the default method of running dungeons by the time they're leveling their second and third characters.

On top of that, it won't just be mages who know these specialized routes doing the boosts now. Any class capable of clearing the dungeon efficiently will be able to boost and we'll be seeing a lot more boosters on average because of it.

7

u/Tyler1986 6h ago

Except the old way didn't harm people who's primary means of enjoyment come from grinding dungeons. They threw the baby out with the bathwater.

•

u/Background_Help325 4h ago

The old boosting method definitely harmed the dungeon grinders more than questers.

•

u/Tyler1986 3h ago

Well, 1. Boosting didn't harm dungeon grinders, because they still were able to grind dungeons effectively, together, doing the whole social thing. People that wanted to get boosted never want to grind dungeons anyways.

  1. We aren't talking about boosting at all, remove that from the game, no one wants that to exist except the boostees.

So remove boosting, but don't ruin dungeon grinding for the people who play it as intended and enjoy it. It's not a complicated idea.

•

u/Background_Help325 2h ago

Obviously as intended is not dungeon grinding for 20 levels bypassing zones of content.

5

u/CourageLeast4251 7h ago

This is such a stupid response lol

-4

u/nickpaz21 7h ago

stay salty bruv

5

u/sporkparty 7h ago

The point of getting rid of boosts wasn’t to make boosting “healthier” it was to stop people from boosting. This doesn’t do that. If anything it makes boosting easier.

-1

u/nickpaz21 7h ago

no, the point is so you spend time in the open world. Its impossible to stop all forms of boosting. If a lv60 runs you through a dungeon once, where are you going after? The open world

3

u/sporkparty 7h ago

No, you have the same 60 run you through the next dungeon

•

u/Background_Help325 4h ago

Eventually you run out of dungeons and have to head to the open world. Not enough dungeon quests to boost to 60 this way. Not enough to get from dungeon to dungeon even.

2

u/TroubledSkunk 7h ago

Yeah. And this does mean people will be out in the world more which is good. But dungeons should be a core part of the leveling process. I just hope it stays easy to get a group after the beginning and that there's no toxicity when people don't get the drop they want as they're only doing the dungeon once. HR and all that rubbish

2

u/krinklychipbag 7h ago

Sure. But it doesn’t have to be this way. The choice doesn’t have to be between bad and worse.

-2

u/nickpaz21 7h ago

sometimes the role of a game designer is to protect the players from themselves. They've made it clear that theyre open to tweaking the mob exp more but the philosophy will not change. They want the open world to have priority

3

u/krinklychipbag 7h ago

Not really sure how this comment is pertinent to mine. I’m saying there are other ways to achieve their goals to stop boosting, like putting a level cap whereby the player gets no xp if a 60 is in their party.

-5

u/nickpaz21 7h ago

that "solution" literally doesnt do anything to change the current situation. I'm done here

1

u/krinklychipbag 5h ago

I’m really not following what you’re talking about. You started this conversation by saying one form of boosting is healthier than another. Do you remember that?

0

u/jolsiphur 7h ago

Unironically it also may make it easier for alts and new players to actually find dungeons while levelling up after the starting population boom starts hitting 60 en masse. I certainly won't complain a few months from now having some of my level 60 friends run my alts through dungeons instead of trying to find the possibly meagre few people in the zone who want to run the dungeon.

16

u/hardcider 7h ago

There is exp to be had but compared to having someone bulldoze the dungeon get full quest exp and move to the next....you know what most people will do.

Ironically people will just sell that, service to run whatever dungeon get the quests done.

3

u/Infinite-Day-9514 6h ago

Yeah I mean you make one thing more difficult, the ‘enemy’ adjusts. But now to offer 12-60 boosting its not one mage just popping you to 4 dungeons and AOE grinding, its closer to 10 dungeon, plus a whole network to have and share the quests. And there will stil be gaps at higher levels. But alot of quests have prereqs. Sure you could help them with that but this all gets alot more complicated is the point. One-off 60 carrys for loot and quest xp from a guildie happened before and will happen now, If they wanted to restrict dungeon groups with someone whos all grey on the mobs id support that. But making the boosting more difficult is progress.
You could just stand outside a specific dungeon selling carries there, but your going to have down time between groups if its one and done and itll still be slower. also how much gold do you think low levels have?

2

u/justatypicalman 7h ago

I never thought of this.. lol!

•

u/Lootcifer_ 3h ago

You're probably overqualified to work at Blizzard, with those logician skills.

•

u/SimilarAd3309 1h ago

After the initial rush, that is exactly what will happen

-1

u/The_Goat_Stare 6h ago

why wouldnt you do that anyway regardless of xp

4

u/TroubledSkunk 6h ago

Because I enjoyed running them with a level appropriate group. Its a great way to meet new people and make friends. While still making progress towards leveling

-1

u/The_Goat_Stare 6h ago

there you go then

0

u/TroubledSkunk 6h ago

Using DM as an example. Without quests in the beta it's about 20% of a level. It's usually about an hour to run plus finding a group and waiting for that one person to finish their quest on the other side of the world. Mixing in a few dungeon runs with open world questing it could easily take a year or more to get 60. I don't intend to just run dungeons to level but I do usually run each one a few for the crack. I guess for me forever is how long I'll be levelling. It's fine the first time with quests but more than that is severely disincentivised

•

u/The_Goat_Stare 4h ago

good, get out in the open world and meet people.

•

u/TroubledSkunk 3h ago

I've met far more long term friends in dungeons than open world. My vanilla guild was all people picked up from dungeon runs. Plus with the new mega server I hardly think it's going to be baren of other people in the open world. Why even have dungeons in this version of wow if the goal is have everyone in the open world at all times

•

u/The_Goat_Stare 2h ago

everyones experience in vanilla was vastly different due to culture, internet, people being vastly different. it was easier to talk to people in world of warcraft then anywhere else on the internet back then.

you can see that in how monumentally fucked classic era became, nothing but gold buyers and GDKP and boosting. this version will be the same unless blizzard cut it out from the source which this is doing.

this is why they are making these changes and why they are right too, so a year down the line it gives forever the best chance to not have the same problems and for the open world to not be dead.

•

u/TroubledSkunk 2h ago

Yeah modern classic turned horrid. But I'm not sure how nerfing dungeon xp stops gdkp and gold buying. Boosting sure but that has already been addressed since they stopped xp gains if anyone in the party is high level and now aoe is limited. Open world deffo should be the main path. But maybe killing dungeon xp by so much is a bit heavy handed.

-3

u/innerparty45 7h ago

Because you'd like to play the game and enjoy the dungeon?

3

u/TroubledSkunk 6h ago

That's the problem. I love most of the dungeons but if I decide to run them repeatedly I could easily double the time it takes me to level. It would be nice to hit 60 before 2028

2

u/AntonineWall 6h ago

More than double! :(

-11

u/Available-Page-782 8h ago

Because there will be no 60s at launch

15

u/Daveizzle17 8h ago

Game is there forever, not only at launch
