Vivek's campaign is done and I'm glad
What Vivek did to Amy, using her abusive mother in a campaign ad, is horrible straight up. But it is also a good thing that he did this because it proved he would've been a horrible governor. Absolutely no morals in doing whatever it takes to win. This is who he is. He would've destroyed Ohio if he won, ruining the economy and destroying the land to fill it with data centers, and now Ohio finally has a chance to grow again.
I also genuinely can not believe he doubled down on the campaign ad. He could've salvaged his campaign if he just apologized and denounced it. Instead, he clarified that he was responsible for the ad and wouldn't apologize. Republicans genuinely will never apologize for their actions.
That being said, do not get complicit. Go vote for Amy regardless to ensure her victory

It goes back further than MAGA. Back in 2014, my mom was murdered by her Republican boyfriend in an argument he started over her supporting Democrats. Republicans that she had thought of as friends came out to plea for leniency for her murderer andtried to tell me that it was her fault that she was murdered because she should have just submitted to him and agreed with his views. A young Republican group found me online and spent the two years between his arrest and sentencing running an online harassment campaign trying to mock me over my mom's death.
Republicans are structured entirely on the concept of tribalism with an in-group and an out-group. Their highest calling is inflicting pain on the out-group. The reliable Republican voters will see this ad and laugh about the possibility that Ramaswamy just retraumatized a member of the out-group. Knowing that the victim is now a Democrat, they would absolutely support the child rapist, the same way that they happily support a murderer. They are just evil people.

I’m sorry to hear that and I hope you’re doing well now.
Your point about this predating MAGA needs to be understood by more people, they’ve been building this machine since Nixon and it prints money so it’ll never stop running. We have to be cognizant that Trump and his ilk aren’t just an anomaly that will just go away.

Living in Mason, a fairly affluent, pink suburb (maybe exurb?) of Cincy… I see 5-10 Amy signs for every Vivek one.
That’s not indicative of much, but it does show enthusiasm for him is lower than one would expect.
By comparison, I see a lot of Husted signs but no accompanying Vivek one.

It’s cute that you think he has lost this campaign. I can ensure you the vast majority of those that are voting for him are not on Reddit.
My mother simply told me she won’t vote for Acton because she was idiot and power hungry with her COVID policies in 2020.
Doesn’t really matter what Vivek does. Acton made my mother wear a mask and that was too far.
That’s why Vivek can make that ad and still have a realistic chance at winning.
Overall, I hope you are right. But I don’t believe any polling numbers anymore.

This is why the state party's annointing of Acton made me very nervous. As a leftist I have my own problems with her, but I think she'll be a fine governor.
However, she had to quit her job because MAGA was threatening her life. They don't just hate her as they hate any other Democrat, they hate her. They blame her for the state's COVID policies, and DeWine let her take the fall. She is the face of that cultural divide.
I won't be resting easy until this election is called.

Welcome :). As a former liberal Republican, I really wish more moderate Republicans existed and could return to the GOP without RINO labels. We need all voices in a democracy. But, moderates are important. I haven’t voted for a Republican in a while, but I appreciate DeWine more than most on either side just because he seems to have a good heart. Spineless at times. But at times not.
18
u/CameraBum 10h ago
Hi friend I was raised by conservatives and grew up as such. No more! There's no place for moderates in that party.
10
u/Atomic_Sea_Control 9h ago
I am realizing this myself, although I will never call myself a liberal. The Democrats right now have a basis in reality.
12
u/TheFooLlama 8h ago
:) I do not refer to myself as a liberal either. I don't refer to myself as a Democrat, even though I have not really voted for a republican since the Tea Party came around. I think of myself as a radical centrist, ex-patriot. I still have conservative values like states' right and more limited government. If anything, I think Trump is an excellent example of why we don't want so much power granted to the Executive and the Administrative State. But, the longer these idiots and radicals control the GOP, the more I say to myself "Bernie Sanders or AOC" in The White House would be refreshing. And,. El Sayed seems more likable than anyone running as a Republic, so I think all the extremist is moving me more and more over the years to the point where there basically nothing I identify with within the current GOP. Heck, the Democrats have even been better with the debt and deficit , and Trump hates states' rights and due process. They've just gone insane.

I know. I voted for Bush twice and then Obama. I was always a free-thinking moderate that didn't want to be boxed in, but once they didn't care about conservative values anymore and just went to uber nationalism and populist rage, I left. They no longer care about states' rights or live and let live or the debt or deficit. They no longer care about smart and minimal laws--they just want to leverage big government power over those who disagree with them.
It's sad. I always hope that Trump just loses big and the GOP stops selling out their souls to keep power so the people like Romney, John Kasich, etc. can come back. Gees, in Ohio I think many Republicans hate DeWine more than the Democrats. MY wife is a doctor, and I always loved how DeWine and Acton handledCOVID in a bipartisan way. I always thought that they did pretty okay at a horrible situation that no one had dealt with before, and even if they mad mistakes, I feel like they truly were trying to protect Ohioans' lives. I always like seeing people of different parties working for the common good, and that wasn't a thing you say in places like Texas.
Things have just gotten so mean in politics, and Trump just makes us meaner. Ramasway is part of the Mean Team, and he just cares about himself and his fortune. Neither have elected office experience, but Acton has a long history of being a state employee as a teacher and medical professional. If money was her main goal she would have gone into private practice. You don't do your residency in pediatrics because you want to get rich.

Ohio has always been a centrist state. That we are a red state like some more conservative states is propaganda. Up until Biden Ohio has always voted in the direction of presidency.
Remember that people vote, not the land. The majority of people live in and around major cities and they tend to lean more blue. People are getting tired of many of their republican rep behavior going back on promises, not listening to the people, and ignoring the people’s vote by challenging them again or making them hard to implement on purpose.
This race isn’t over until it’s over. The people who vote for Trump are the same people who ignore his many transgressions. This is not the time to get complacent.
7
u/doodoo_blue 12h ago
Ohio was always a purple state until 2016. People who vote red might not be voting red this time, many republicans have come out and said they’re voting blue this time due to all of the bullshit that’s been going on. It really is going to be something no one can predict here in Ohio. Record turnouts for states on early voting, Texas and Georgia are two that come to mind. This midterm I feel is going to go down in history as one of the largest yet. It’s because we have so many people pushing back against the MAGA.
They say it’s no longer red vs blue, it’s America vs MAGA. We shall see! For me, I’m hopeful we will vote in Amy. Quite a few people are getting out there to vote who never bothered voting before and they’re voting Amy. 2 weeks time we will know.

He could even grab any woman he wanted by the pussy. And he won that election. That was the day this country stopped holding Republican politicians to the same standards of decency they expect from everyone else.

Now for people who only see what Rupert murdoch, Putin, and our oligarchs/pedophile class allow them to see - its proof of a moral failing or character flaw.
Those of us with a shred of dignity and compassion see the monstrous tactics involved, but the brainwashed cult members see a child who clearly wanted it. Just typing that I puked in my mouth, but you have to understand why Vivek's doubling down, the folks in his bubble cannot comprehend that rapists and child sex predators are bad in any way, to do so they'd have to admit their cult god may not be a great guy. Vivek and his campaign are not stupid ... I think this was calculated to make a SA victim break and do something which makes her seem unfit for office.

I think this was calculated to make a SA victim break and do something which makes her seem unfit for office.
And he hasn't realized she's done the exact opposite. Her response to this ad was to have her brother make one for her that confirmed everything she said. Then she did an interview clarifying that she hasn't even seen her mother since she was twelve.
If there is no bipartisan effort to condemn this
Megan McCain and many other conservatives have come out against the ad. Then there's this guy:
"“I voted for Vivek already. And I don’t think that would change,” admitted Pradheep J. Shanker, a National Review contributor. “But that ad made me feel worse... And no campaign wants that to be the take home from their message.”"
Thought the response he got to that was great:
"“Just make sure never to criticize anyone else again for refusing to set ethical standards for their own team,” chided Stan Veuger, of the American Enterprise Institute, in response to Shanker.""
Other critiques:
"“This is a terrible ad that is going to remind people of that one family member who hates them for no rational reason at all and make them feel sympathetic towards Acton,” grimaced GOP operative Liz Mair. “I know when I watched it, I was like ‘egads, if I ever ran for office, I know my opponent could find at least three family members who would cut an ad like this’ and all three of those people are people I consider to be deeply psychologically unwell, petty, spiteful, and generally wrong on most things and not credible. In brief, it pushed me towards Acton, not away from her.”
“I’ve never really understood the disdain for Vivek Ramaswamy,” pondered Reason’s Billy Binion. “The new ad with Amy Acton’s abusive mom has fixed that. If I were an Ohioan, that alone would be enough to swing my vote. No normal, well-adjusted human being with a basic understanding of social cues would do that.”
“Vivek should apologize to Amy,” stated Wisconsin College Republicans. “Weaponizing personal and traumatic family trauma for political hits is not something men of honor do.”

Two other conservatives appeared on CNN and ripped into him as well.

Dan Hauser who works for Sen. Mike Lee of Utah had made a post with the ad but deleted it after researching the back story. He apologized for posting it and said, "I got this one wrong."

The "no normal, well-adjusted human being with a basic understanding of social cues would do that" reinforces my idea that this ad came from Elon Musk.

His campaign is not done until he's lost. These are Republicans we're talking about. There is no bridge too far for them.

Holy shit, guys he is not over. Get your ass out and go vote. He is probably going to win. Do EVERYTHING in your power to make sure that doesn't happen.

For every deplorable Vivek, there are plenty of deplorable Vivek supporters.
Vote like your life depends on it.

Conservatives do vote early too and a lot of them already have.
I have very little faith left in this state’s ability to elect someone half decent.

u/SafeForTwerking 10h ago
I don't think it's really moved the needle too much. I hope I'm wrong and it does, but I don't think it will sway any Republicans away from him, unless they were already predisposed to not wanting to vote for him anyways. Otherwise, Republicans had no problem voting for a pedophile and sexual abuser for president and in plenty of other instances. Republicans do not care about sexual abuse victims and all but openly support pedophilia. Just because everyone else is appalled by it, won't mean shit to them. Support for pedophilia may as well be part of their party's platform at this point.

It’s not over MAGA is demented. This is child’s play. They are morally bankrupt MAGA expects this from their candidates and Ramaswampy delivered the meat they crave. This will show the true Ohio. November 3 win be interesting

u/tuxedo_cat23 13h ago
Not done until after confirmation. There is no bottom anymore after Trump set the precedent for how obviously awful a person can be and still get elected
8
u/CHILLAS317 13h ago
There's no objective reality in which his campaign is "done" because of this. Of course he's doubling down, this is an appeal directly to the MAGA base, hoping they'll find him hateful enough to actually vote for him

u/Professional_Cow1324 13h ago
At this point, I'm thinking that 1) he doesn't want to win and he's sabotaging his own campaign because... 2) he's banking on the GOP to win the White House in 2028 so he can get a post in that administration.
Whatever the case, he's a certifiable asshole.

Sadly, you have failed to account for the sheer breathtaking ignorance and stupidity of the right. They believe Amy's mom. You can look up any right-wing Facebook page and see this for yourself. Just read the comments.
They are, in fact, birds of a feather and they will stick together until the bitter end.

Amy isn't in the clear yet , a lot can happen in the last two weeks before election
Remember the last time Sherrod Brown ran he was ahead in the polling and than started losing the lead in polling in the last two weeks and eventually lost to Bernie Moirano , so anything can happen in the two weeks. Polls can shift in the last two weeks for both Amy and Sherrod
I do think that VIvek is dragging the party ticket down , that he will get less voters than the other republicans on the ballot though

I'm not from Ohio, but just to offer a data point: two of my coworkers asked me about this ad this morning. I'm an American who lives in Ireland and it was an Irish coworker and a British one. I'm not sure if it made the local Irish news, I was a bit busy with php servers today. But they knew about it somehow and were shocked.
I left the US in 1998. So I don't know if I was really honest in my response, but I told them this was extreme even for attack ads in the US and it won't work and it won't happen again.
I really hope I wasn't lying when I said that.

The Republican supporters don't vote on morals. Look at the candidates they vote in. Seems the more corrupt and deprived of morals you are, the more voted you get

You think Ohioans won’t vote for him over that? I wish I had that level of optimism lol.

I’ve been comfortable in my little bubble in Akron. And then this week I’m in my hometown of Wintersville while house/pet sitting for my daughter and I am seeing Vivek signs all over Wintersville and Steubenville. It’s been pretty eye opening to say the least. I think I’ve seen maybe one in Cuyahoga Falls but they’re EVERYWHERE down here in Trump country. These people will never learn.

Donald Trump is literally the president. Again. This did not end his campaign in any way.

u/Sabermatrixx 13h ago
You say dont get complicit, but the rest of your post says its over. It isnt over until the votes are counted.
That attack ad means less to many people than the fact he's brown and his last name is Ramaswamay

u/TGrady902 Columbus 13h ago
It’s 2026. His base probably loved that video. Probably won him votes from people who were battling between their MAGA and racist tendencies and were conflicted on if they could vote for a non-white non-Christian. Vivek just proved he is one with the MAGA bullshit because they love the hateful stuff. It’s the foundation of who they are as people.

lol this isn’t the end. Why would this convince people who vote for horrible people to not vote for horrible people?
5
u/multi_tasking 11h ago
Until the election is over and Acton has won, I don't believe theres anything the right could do that would dissuade their own voters.
They could come out and say they plan to steal from the state coffers after they win and Republican voters would say they appreciate his honesty and both parties are bad.

u/Busy-Assumption1236 11h ago
I just learned the details of this (in CO, not OH) and cannot fathom the absolute piece of shit this guy is. Truly horrific and would pay to see Amy slap the shit out of his smarmy face.
On a side note, what an absolute beast she is rising above that upbringing and doing what she’s done in life. Breaking the generation circle of misery. She’ll be a great governor and VR will continue to be a loser in need to a roundhouse to the chin
5
u/PoolExtension5517 10h ago
Sadly, there are very few voters, maybe 10%, who are willing to vote for the best candidate regardless of party. The rest will vote for “their party” no matter how unqualified, corrupt, or morally despicable the candidate is. Vivek knows this and is betting he won’t lose a single vote because of this ad, and he’s probably right. All we can hope for is overwhelming turnout at the polls. VOTE!!
4
u/Coloraturafan1919 9h ago
I wish it were true, but money buys anything, and Ohio has proven as corrupt as it gets.
5
u/Designerkyle 9h ago
These brain dead, brainwashed, Fox News addicted, idiots will vote for Vivek just to spite the dems. It’s as simple as that

u/SweetLouDunbar 2h ago
The ad is despicable but it won't sway a single Republican voter to vote Democrat.
8
u/intrasmert 12h ago
VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE and tell your friends…
This is dillusional! He’s leading in almost all polls. Ohio is steady red, only chance is if more non-voters show up to vote for Amy. Most people voting for him are not paying attention or will ignore or pretend it doesn’t matter.
