Vivek's campaign is done and I'm glad

What Vivek did to Amy, using her abusive mother in a campaign ad, is horrible straight up. But it is also a good thing that he did this because it proved he would've been a horrible governor. Absolutely no morals in doing whatever it takes to win. This is who he is. He would've destroyed Ohio if he won, ruining the economy and destroying the land to fill it with data centers, and now Ohio finally has a chance to grow again.

I also genuinely can not believe he doubled down on the campaign ad. He could've salvaged his campaign if he just apologized and denounced it. Instead, he clarified that he was responsible for the ad and wouldn't apologize. Republicans genuinely will never apologize for their actions.

That being said, do not get complicit. Go vote for Amy regardless to ensure her victory

Isn’t Ohio a red state. Aren’t people who vote red going to vote for him regardless of what he has done? Isn’t that what they did when they voted for Trump in ‘24? I hope Vivek doesn’t win, but we will have to wait and see what kind of Ohio shows up this time.

Republican here. I will be voting for Amy. My vote is more of a vote against Vivek rather than for Amy.

Welcome :). As a former liberal Republican, I really wish more moderate Republicans existed and could return to the GOP without RINO labels. We need all voices in a democracy. But, moderates are important. I haven’t voted for a Republican in a while, but I appreciate DeWine more than most on either side just because he seems to have a good heart. Spineless at times. But at times not.

Hi friend I was raised by conservatives and grew up as such. No more! There's no place for moderates in that party.

I am realizing this myself, although I will never call myself a liberal. The Democrats right now have a basis in reality.

:) I do not refer to myself as a liberal either. I don't refer to myself as a Democrat, even though I have not really voted for a republican since the Tea Party came around. I think of myself as a radical centrist, ex-patriot. I still have conservative values like states' right and more limited government. If anything, I think Trump is an excellent example of why we don't want so much power granted to the Executive and the Administrative State. But, the longer these idiots and radicals control the GOP, the more I say to myself "Bernie Sanders or AOC" in The White House would be refreshing. And,. El Sayed seems more likable than anyone running as a Republic, so I think all the extremist is moving me more and more over the years to the point where there basically nothing I identify with within the current GOP. Heck, the Democrats have even been better with the debt and deficit , and Trump hates states' rights and due process. They've just gone insane.

Have you seen what is happening in the UK and France, you would vote for El Sayad?

4

u/CordisHead 4h ago

Protesting in France didn’t start because of immigration, if that’s what you’re implying.

-1

u/theycallmedead 4h ago

I blame immigration full stop

3

u/CordisHead 4h ago

You can do whatever you want but that’s not why they are protesting in France.

u/theycallmedead 3h ago

Who is THEY?

1

u/CordisHead 2h ago

The people who started the protesting, also known as the protestors.

Immigrants = THEY

Genuinely curious why you are blaming immigration?

I don't know enough about El Sayed to know if I'd vote for him. Are you talking about him being a Muslim or a Democratic Socialist when compared to Europe? I have many liberal Muslim friends, and I guess I have a recognization that Christians are just as problematic as Muslims, and that both have their extremists and their liberals, so I don't really fear Muslims or Christians as a whole because I recognize the diversity of the religious group, and that I value people in both groups and fear people in both groups. Also, most Muslims in the Untied States are more liberal than elsewhere. That is why they came here. Conversely, when the United States was being founded, it was all the religious extremists that were fleeing here from Europe. :) So we are a nation largely, not founded, but settled by religious extremists. The Dutch in Michigan didn't even want to speak English. Even President Martin Van Buren grew up in a religious radical part of New York where he grew up speaking Dutch and only later spoke English as a second language. :)

If it's the Democratic Socialist side of things, I don't know. I'm not a socialist, but I do value socialistic programs. I'm all for funding education, libraries, the arts, National Parks. I'm for safety nets. I'm for a progressive tax policy more like what the U.S. had in the 1950s, where the uber wealthy would be taxed more. I'd love universal pre-k and daycare subsidies--perhaps instead of welfare, to a degree. But, I'm also very distrustful of government and would be fine reducing federal power and giving more power back to the states. I'm also for limited and conservative law making.

So, I'm really a bit of everything. I've think there are key roles a government should play, and we might need to be more socialist in those regards, but generally, I'm more for smaller government, states' rights, and more power at local levels.

I am a leftist these days. Liberals are weak capitalistic puppets.

Don’t need to call yourself by a label if you don’t want to.

I know plenty of people with liberal views that don’t think they’re liberals at all.

The dislike of a label shouldn’t deter you from being grounded in reality, kindness, and ethical behavior. 🙂

Yeah these people are going out of there way to find a new name to call themselves 😂 it’s not that deep

1

u/Smooth-Camel6749 1h ago

Yeah, sick of the whole labeling thing.

2

u/CordisHead 4h ago

You can call yourself a realist.

u/bullet_the_blue_sky 3h ago

Labels don't help as the window for what's sane is always shifting these days.

Democrats are far more removed from normal than maga republicans, I find it interesting you think otherwise.

Democrats aren’t wasting time renaming bodies of water

They are 2 busy trying to redefine the definition of woman or man

Here’s the thing though… that’s not the case. Trans people will exist regardless of what the government says. Even if the government makes being trans illegal guess what? Trans people will still exist. And so whereas republicans lack empathy and want to punish those who are trans and make them miserable, democrats want to follow the science that says the treatment for gender dysphoria is to transition. Or at the very least leave the decision up to the health care provider and the patient.

But how dare democrats care about people and their wellbeing

It is my opinion and that of most of the population, that pretending to be a boy or girl when you are not is unkind and will only lead to further harm of them and potentially others.

It is insidious to suggest otherwise and the medical profession is notoriously "practicing medicine" which is also shameful.

I know. I voted for Bush twice and then Obama. I was always a free-thinking moderate that didn't want to be boxed in, but once they didn't care about conservative values anymore and just went to uber nationalism and populist rage, I left. They no longer care about states' rights or live and let live or the debt or deficit. They no longer care about smart and minimal laws--they just want to leverage big government power over those who disagree with them.

It's sad. I always hope that Trump just loses big and the GOP stops selling out their souls to keep power so the people like Romney, John Kasich, etc. can come back. Gees, in Ohio I think many Republicans hate DeWine more than the Democrats. MY wife is a doctor, and I always loved how DeWine and Acton handledCOVID in a bipartisan way. I always thought that they did pretty okay at a horrible situation that no one had dealt with before, and even if they mad mistakes, I feel like they truly were trying to protect Ohioans' lives. I always like seeing people of different parties working for the common good, and that wasn't a thing you say in places like Texas.

Things have just gotten so mean in politics, and Trump just makes us meaner. Ramasway is part of the Mean Team, and he just cares about himself and his fortune. Neither have elected office experience, but Acton has a long history of being a state employee as a teacher and medical professional. If money was her main goal she would have gone into private practice. You don't do your residency in pediatrics because you want to get rich.

Exactly. Different parties working together for the common good is the whole idea of having a government. They are supposed to be the voice for the voiceless, but they’ve devolved so badly that it’s two parties working against each other to ensure they get theirs and who cares if the other party or its constituents are hurt in the process.

I’m a Democrat, and I was also impressed by how DeWine and Acton handled the response to a global pandemic. Yes, jobs were lost or changed dramatically due to the shutdown and children’s school experiences were altered in a way none of us could have ever imagined.

But they did it to save lives. Your life. My life. Your children’s lives. The lives of our friends, coworkers, extended family, and all the people we count on that we often forget exist until they’re gone like your hairdresser or mechanic or favorite veterinarian.

And it wasn’t just happening in Ohio. People seem to forget, this was global. Every single person on the planet except for the isolated tribes that avoid outside contact was going through the same pandemic at the same time and most of them were shut down.

Acton (and DeWine) didn’t shut down Ohio “just because” and Ohio wasn’t the only place in the world “paranoid enough over a little cold” to shut down. The entire WORLD shut down, (most) put on masks, learned to social distance, and responded similarly to the pandemic. And we still lost soooo many people. Way too many.

Ohioans need to remember that. And we desperately need to figure out how to get our government back to working together for the common good and having that celebrated.

Sounds like we very much had the same experience, although I could only vote for Obama's reelection

Yeah but her stance on local law enforcement working with federal agents (ICE) has me on the fence.
