Vivek's campaign is done and I'm glad

What Vivek did to Amy, using her abusive mother in a campaign ad, is horrible straight up. But it is also a good thing that he did this because it proved he would've been a horrible governor. Absolutely no morals in doing whatever it takes to win. This is who he is. He would've destroyed Ohio if he won, ruining the economy and destroying the land to fill it with data centers, and now Ohio finally has a chance to grow again.

I also genuinely can not believe he doubled down on the campaign ad. He could've salvaged his campaign if he just apologized and denounced it. Instead, he clarified that he was responsible for the ad and wouldn't apologize. Republicans genuinely will never apologize for their actions.

That being said, do not get complicit. Go vote for Amy regardless to ensure her victory

Vivek and his campaign are not stupid ... I think this was calculated to make a SA victim break and do something which makes her seem unfit for office.
This is by far the worst thing I have seen during political campaigning in any democracy. If there is no bipartisan effort to condemn this, then everything is fair game - and democracy as we know it is over.

Democracy as we know it was over the minute that Trump was announced president.

Vivek is probably a sexual abuser himself. Seems like the large majority of the GOP like that kind of shit.

I think this was calculated to make a SA victim break and do something which makes her seem unfit for office.

And he hasn't realized she's done the exact opposite. Her response to this ad was to have her brother make one for her that confirmed everything she said. Then she did an interview clarifying that she hasn't even seen her mother since she was twelve.

If there is no bipartisan effort to condemn this

Megan McCain and many other conservatives have come out against the ad. Then there's this guy:

"“I voted for Vivek already. And I don’t think that would change,” admitted Pradheep J. Shanker, a National Review contributor. “But that ad made me feel worse... And no campaign wants that to be the take home from their message.”"

Thought the response he got to that was great:

"“Just make sure never to criticize anyone else again for refusing to set ethical standards for their own team,” chided Stan Veuger, of the American Enterprise Institute, in response to Shanker.""

Other critiques:

"“This is a terrible ad that is going to remind people of that one family member who hates them for no rational reason at all and make them feel sympathetic towards Acton,” grimaced GOP operative Liz Mair. “I know when I watched it, I was like ‘egads, if I ever ran for office, I know my opponent could find at least three family members who would cut an ad like this’ and all three of those people are people I consider to be deeply psychologically unwell, petty, spiteful, and generally wrong on most things and not credible. In brief, it pushed me towards Acton, not away from her.”

“I’ve never really understood the disdain for Vivek Ramaswamy,” pondered Reason’s Billy Binion. “The new ad with Amy Acton’s abusive mom has fixed that. If I were an Ohioan, that alone would be enough to swing my vote. No normal, well-adjusted human being with a basic understanding of social cues would do that.”

“Vivek should apologize to Amy,” stated Wisconsin College Republicans. “Weaponizing personal and traumatic family trauma for political hits is not something men of honor do.”

Two other conservatives appeared on CNN and ripped into him as well.

Scott Jennings, Jason Rantz Rip Ramaswamy's 'Disgusting' Ad

Dan Hauser who works for Sen. Mike Lee of Utah had made a post with the ad but deleted it after researching the back story. He apologized for posting it and said, "I got this one wrong."

The "no normal, well-adjusted human being with a basic understanding of social cues would do that" reinforces my idea that this ad came from Elon Musk.

I think it came from both Musk and Ramaswamy. Neither of them seems to be able to read a room.

It's funny, this is one of the arguments against early and mail in voting.  This guy already voted, and then this horrible thing happens.

Even though he said he was disgusted by the ad he said he still wouldn't have voted for her. Okay then, who would you have voted for?

It reminds me of a SA flavored version of the swift boat ads gw ran to transform public opinion around a war hero so that he, a draft dodger didn't have to engage on equal footing. They ran hundreds of millions of $ those ads and we saw vets vote for gw's reelection in spades.

It was smart of the Acton camp to get her brother to make the initial statement while she was able to prepare for answering the inevitable questions.

Desperation moves in politics are a product of desperation and hubris.
