Vivek's campaign is done and I'm glad

What Vivek did to Amy, using her abusive mother in a campaign ad, is horrible straight up. But it is also a good thing that he did this because it proved he would've been a horrible governor. Absolutely no morals in doing whatever it takes to win. This is who he is. He would've destroyed Ohio if he won, ruining the economy and destroying the land to fill it with data centers, and now Ohio finally has a chance to grow again.

I also genuinely can not believe he doubled down on the campaign ad. He could've salvaged his campaign if he just apologized and denounced it. Instead, he clarified that he was responsible for the ad and wouldn't apologize. Republicans genuinely will never apologize for their actions.

That being said, do not get complicit. Go vote for Amy regardless to ensure her victory

Gerrymandering isn't relevant for the govenor right?

I just looked it up and that’s true you’re right actually, I didn’t realize that thank you

however the governor does heavily influence gerrymandering with their veto power, so Ohio electing a republican governor was what made it worse for the general election since the Obama elections (besides dems just running bad campaigns etc etc)

You shouldn't have to look it up to understand that you can't gerrymander an at-large race.

There’s literally nothing wrong about doing research on something you need a refresher on, dude. Better then talking out of your ass when you’re wrong

I mean not in the same way it is for congressional districts but it can have an effect. If you’re so gerrymandered that you think “my vote doesn’t matter” that can depress turnout which absolutely affects governor and senator races.

Since OP doesn't understand gerrymandering, and yet is concerned about it, then I guess perhaps you're right.

However, sitting out a statewide race because you're worried about gerrymandering means you're not too bright. Amazing to be so worried about something as to not vote, yet not understand the thing you're worried about.

You've described most of the electorate though. For most issues people vote on (their so-called passion points), they retain little to no knowledge of it beyond a few bullet points from the nightly news.

A lot of people in Ohio showed up at the polls last year to vote against Mamdani in the New York Mayoral race. A lot of people here are just morons, and they talk to each other and reinforce their moronic beliefs. It also isn't unique to one side of the political spectrum in Ohio either.

How did people in Ohio vote against a candidate in another state’s mayoral race?

We are Ohioans. We vote for Ohio candidates in elections for Ohio. We have to have established residency to vote here, and if we’re an Ohio resident, we cannot vote in another state for their candidates while being a resident of Ohio. If we did, that would be voter fraud.

Please explain how this could have been possible.

This is exactly my point. Thanks.

Wait—so, people in Ohio went to polling places in Ohio to try to vote against Mamdani, thinking he’d be on our ballots?

Please tell me this isn’t real. I beg of you.

It has halo effect that my vote doesn’t matter, they’ve also been closing locations as well so distance and time become a factor.

Sorta, voter disfranchisement can effect voter turnout which could change outcome in state wide/federal elections. I’d think more so the influence the party in control can put on poll policy are more powerful, like they could decide to fix long lines in the 3 C’s but they won’t because they vote blue.

If someone feels "disinfranchised" when it comes to voting it's their own fault. Mail in voting early is very easy here. I honestly don't see the excuse. By popular vote trump win Ohio by noticeable margins.

The state is gerrymandered to hell and that really skews state races but it's hard to deny the popular vote has been shifting red for a while. We aren't a deep red state but we aren't a reliable swing state either.

So it’s the voter’s fault when the courts have no teeth on enforcing the state constitution? I live in a town that basically January 6th the local election and the courts won’t sort that out either. What’s the point of voting if even if you win an election you don’t get the spot?

This dumb comment comes around like clockwork. "Omg some house races might be more difficult. I better stay home for governor, senator, and issue races that are in no way tied to this fake boogeyman."

Then the dumb comments come around that everyone has the same reasons to go vote as Super Mario Luigi. It’s a fact that the side that gerrymandering favors votes higher after, and the losing party loses turn out, not saying it’s the “right” thing to do, but it happens .

Anything and everything "happens." The beauty of the internet is that you can make any reality you want "true." The talking point is overplayed.

What is “true”

Yes it’s very important.
