Discussion I’ve got a really stupid hypothetical question with Foley catheters in females.
I know that obviously a Foley catheter is an insertion up through the urethra to the bladder. I was just wondering what do you do in practice if you have a female patient who is menstruating?
edit: thanks for the response guys, sorry for the dumb question, but it makes sense now!
Edit 2: I should’ve clarified my question better. Yes I know they are two different holes. My question was on when inserting a catheter, emphasis is placed on not breaking sterile field, so if you have a female patient without a tampon or any padding, and the tubing touches the menstrual blood prior to insertion into the urethra, is it contaminated. My question has been answered
