Discussion Is Macarena the quintessential millennial song?

I remember this song was EVERYWHERE when it came out. You couldn't escape it. Whether you love it or hate it, is there a song that is more millennial than this?

My next choices would be Mr Brightside or In the end by linkin park.

Discussion Why are millennials who looked “young” when they turned 30, having so much trouble accepting that they look their age now?

It’s ok to look 40 at 40. Also schedule your colonoscopy

Discussion Am I the only person not psyched at all about the Glee reboot?

Between the reports of how bad it was on set for anyone who wasn't Lea Michele, or the deaths, or the suicide over CP, and not to mention that the show wasn't as progressive as it wanted to be, I really would just love for this show to fade into obscurity.

Though I will watch anything with Jane Lynch in it in a heartbeat.

Discussion Back in the day it used to be really cool to be smart and knowledgeable about random things and you could debate with confidence knowing you weren't going to get fact checked on the spot

Now a days everyone knows a little bit about everything but also not that much about any one thing. Hard to even have interesting conversations unless it's related to pop culture or personal relationships.

Just thinking

Discussion DAE get anxiety at a certain spot on their daily route?

Obviously we all wake up in different moods, whether you're feeling good, bad, etc. But for some reason even if I'm in a decent mood, right around this one certain spot on my daily drive, I get taken over by a sense of anxiety. It passes thankfully soon after, but just curious if I'm alone on that.

Discussion Is looking younger that harmful

I'm just curious, everytime I see a post on this subreddit about someone saying "they look 20s something" but they are 40.

There is a mass of people who say "people who think they look younger are delusional" or something similar.

Like is looking "younger" a truly bad thing compared to the rest of the shit we have in the world?

If someone actually feels good with their age, and feeling good means "they feel/looking younger" do we really need to call them delusional or just cringe?

Edit: I appreciate the responses, overall it seems just be other people think it's cringe when millineals think they look young. But, it is not harmful.

Some people could also be jealous of others looks.

Serious My parents just got their visa's approved for america and they are telling me to leave Canada.

Crazy. They run a buisness, not small but big enough for them to not need a loan to set up shop in America. I am still mind blown that they have already planned this out years ago.

Should I leave too? Wait time is nearly a year for a US visa.

I watch videos of this guy whenever it comes my way, and he embodies all I’ve ever wanna to do in terms of exploring new places, learning new cultures, and just traveling all over. His energy gets me hyped, and I’ve been inspired. Now I know he’s young. But I just found out how young he is, and not to dunk on myself, but I don’t think I can keep up.

Discussion I haven't been on a proper night out since 2012

I'm turning 40 next month it dawned on me that I have not been on a proper night out since 2012! Aside from a couple of family weddings a decade ago, I have not been on a night out in so long, it actually got me wondering what is it like now? There is a reason for this, I have had pretty serious health issues and over time it just became my life which I accepted but hopefully that will change!. From about 16 to 25 I was out all the time when i was at college, university and travelling and I feel so lucky that I have the best memories of so many brilliant and funny nights out. I keep seeing those Instagram millennial reels that liken our youth to The Hangover film and I'd say that's pretty accurate! I'm from the UK but from what I have seen our collective experience was pretty universal.

I so miss the 90s and early 00s, they felt so free and fun, just listening to music from that time just brings back so many amazing memories.

So I have to ask what are nights out, like now? From what I have seen I feel really sorry for Gen Z it looks pretty crap and also very expensive.

I would love to hear your experiences and thoughts :) ...

Discussion Is it that time already?

I just turned 40. I went to a new gym last night and did a class. After the class, the coach (who could have been anywhere like 25 to early 30s) was super nice and chatty and asked me about my fitness goals. I said "well, I just turned 40..." and was about to talk about how I want to ramp up my fitness to honor the milestone and I got interrupted with, "40?? You look great!!"

Now I'm wondering if he was early 20s. Was not expecting that response. Anyone else fell it's a bit premature?

Discussion What once in a lifetime financial windows have you hit?

And which have you missed?

For example, the mortgage interest rates right before COVID were at once in a lifetime lows. If you bought a house before 2019 you won amazing house value inflation with 2% interest rate home loans.

Home equity alone made many people into millionaires.

Also, we are coming out of the window of a once in a lifetime stock market rally. People who invested in AI stocks made bank. Actually you could have just been invested in the S&P500 and made huge amounts of money. The same for Bitcoin a while ago.

I missed all of these windows. I did hit one window though. During 2022, tech companies were hiring like crazy. I was lucky enough to slip into the industry during this year (with my underwhelming talent and disappointing skills) missing the terrible job market both before and afterwards. I literally applied to one place because it was close by and got an offer and so far I haven't been laid off. 🤞

Did you hit any of these windows? Are there other windows I'm missing?

Discussion What are some lesser popular licensed games you enjoyed growing up?

Licensed games are a kicking bag when it comes to retro gaming collections. Everyone has owned them but most don't get talked about unless they're above and beyond (like Goldeneye or The Lion King).

Some choice memories of mine:

  • Everyone online talks about the Spiderman 2 game. I don't know about that one. I owned the first one though. It was ace. Never did beat it, though.
  • The first games I bought for myself as a kid were licensed games. I was a PS1 kid, so no Mario Kart 64. Instead, I had Smurfs Racer and Looney Tunes Racing. They're not nearly as polished, but they're enjoyable mascot racers
  • The Simpsons: Road Rage is a better game than Crazy Taxi. I say this as a Crazy Taxi fan. It has more content by far. The only bad part is the loading (due to a rushed development cycle).
  • Scooby-Doo : Night of 100 Frights could do with a remaster or remake. Licensed games rarely get these though.
  • Scooby Doo's movie GBA game hurt my head. I hated it as a kid. I beat it a few years ago. I don't know how. The graphics are interesting. There aren't many 3D GBA games (probably less than three dozen)
  • I'd die for a sequel to The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road. Gimme an adaptation of the second or third book.

How many of us are using readers? As in the 1.5x or 2x glasses for reading but not for daily use.

I'm 41, had LASIK at 22 and so far my vision is still great but I know readers are in my future.
