We need to ban telemarketing

• Upvotes

Have you ever stopped to think about how INSANE it is that phone calls, arguably the greatest invention in modern communication has been completely lost to telemarketers?

I don’t even pick up the phone anymore from an unknown number because it’s non stop ads, and solicitations, and scams. How is this legal?

Okay fine, strangers can call my phone whenever they want whatever, i’ll deal. But TEXTS now too? I’ve gotten SO MANY election and spam texts recently if I don’t regularly clear them out my entire messages is basically unusable. Why is this allowed? How do I stop this? My premium $1000 iPhone has basically turned into a 2000s corrupted desktop.

No i’m not voting for you! No I don’t want your products!!

People who are afraid of driving, don’t fucking drive

Basically it. Biggest pet peeve of mine is a super timid driver who’s filled with anxiety and terror while driving. Simple fix; don’t drive. Figure out how to do life without it, you are a huge annoyance to us capable drivers. Please shut the fuck up in my passenger seat or back seat as well, if you’re afraid of driving I don’t want you in my car or driving any other car.

People who have to use idioms and metaphors every sentence

You don't have to say "I'm so tired I feel like I just plowed the whole field with a two legged mule on a sunday after pot luck at gramma spencers house in the middle of the night!"

You can just say "i'm fucking tired man."

"It's hotter than a chili cookout on the 4th of july on the hottest summer of the century after a cold shower with a one legged mule on a cotton field on the 4th of july during a 4th of july party!"

you can just say "it's damn hot."

I used to work with a guy like this. I suppose i would've disliked him less if he wasn't always perving over every female he saw.

Answer it or silence it

People who just let let their phones ring in public... loud as fuck... like there aren't other people around. Answer it or silence it.

Also people who insist on having their conversation on speaker at max volume, like we want to hear it.

When a phone app change sound output from earpiece to loudspeaker because the other side of the call wants to do video chat

• Upvotes

I don't know if it's only one app (LINE) or it happens on most apps but when I am on a voice call with someone and they turn on video call, the app doesn't have a sound indicator that the other side is switching to video call.

The app just put my phone on loudspeaker full blast and everyone around me can hear all the conversation because the app assume that I am willing to do a video call in public. And there's no way to decline video call request, there's no way to stop the sound from coming out of loudspeakers. I have to hang up the call and call them again.

When people always assume a lack of ambition or drive is always due to laziness or lack-of-effort

I am not sure if people forgot that there other legit reasons why somebody could be struggling to get the ball rolling, but is not always this: And I am not sure if people are that willfully ignorant or just as usual uncaring and un-empatethic: But either way, it is plain disingenuous and I am getting heckin tired of it.

Hmm, I don't know. Have we forgotten about other possible caveats here: Like you know, anxiety, PTSD, mental health problems, exposure to constant failure, burnout and maybe possibly a lack of good INCENTIVE MEASURES?

Seriously, people learn to actually give the benefit of the doubt FOR ONCE. It is not that hard.

Is like so many people operate in the "perfect world" fantasy where people forget not everybody is gonna have the same circumstances afforded to them. Seriously, get a grip!

Academics

I work in IT for a college. Faculty have some of the worst reading comprehension and listening skills by far of any group of people I've ever worked with. I guess I expect more of them being that they're educated... They also all throw tantrums when they don't get their way, and refuse to abide by basic policies--our networking people constantly have to make exceptions for them. It drives me crazy

When you agree with someone and they have to double down to back up their "authority" or "toughness"

For example....

Boss: You made a mistake.

Me: Yeah I'm sorry.

Boss: You SHOULD BE SORRY!

Me: I was wrong.

Boss: Yeah you WERE WRONG.

Me: You're right.

Boss: I know I'm right, I don't need you telling me that!

Me: It won't happen again.

Boss; It had BETTER NOT!

Substitute "boss" for parent, teacher, cop, judge, etc....it grinds my fucking gears.

Cops who fish for information during routine traffic stops

[Cross posting from r/PetPeeves]

I despise when cops conduct “pretextual pullovers”—essentially, they pull you over for something routine like a tail light that’s gone out, but use the opportunity to pelt you with additional unrelated questions in an attempt to catch some additional violation.

I have not been stopped while driving since 2008, but was just pulled over while driving my wife and me home from the movies. The young woman officer who pulled me over immediately let me know, “I didn’t stop you for anything major, just that your license plate light is burnt out and you need to get that fixed. I’ll just let you go with a warning after I check your license, registration, and insurance.” Fair enough. So I promptly and politely handed her the documents, expecting her to go back to her car and finish the paperwork.

But once she had the documents in hand, she switched to interrogation mode:

Cop: Do you have any arrest history? Any outstanding warrants for your arrest?

Me: none whatsoever

Cop: You guys look tired. Late night? You must have work in the morning.

Me: yeah, we drove an hour to see the new Nathan Fielder movie about Elizabeth Holmes/Theranos.

Cop: hmm, I’ve never heard of that movie or of Elizabeth Holmes. So you guys are kind of far from home just to see a movie. Wasn’t it showing closer to your home?

Me: no actually it wasn’t. It is only showing on 855 screens nationwide. And this was the only showing in our region. It was sold out.

Cop: OK, and what do you both do for work?

[wife and I both explain our professions]

Cop: OK, I’ll be back in a minute.

It just felt so unnecessary and irrelevant to the issue at hand (broken light on license plate). I know that legally there is no obligation to answer such questions, but in real life situations, I think it’s incredibly dicey. Would it not have simply made me look suspicious if I’d said, “I don’t wish to answer these questions as they don’t seem relevant to my license plate light bulb”? And would that not inflame tensions and possibly just open me up to more scrutiny? I had nothing to hide, so I answered all questions and it was fine, but it was still an awkward and annoying situation.

Perhaps what annoyed me the most was the fake-friendly demeanor with which she delivered these questions. She spoke in a tone like she was just making small talk, but I’m not stupid.

I’m a hard worker but need to get some clothes. I’m being honest here, I don’t have water in my trailer house, I need to travel for a shower, so I’m being targeted at work by an overzealous b****, who wants to try me. She doesn’t understand how much I got to do. I done had it though, I’m a stand up for myself and get some advice from you guys.

Why do people act the way they do during DUI arrests.

Why do people act the way they do during DUI arrests.

Im watching some cop body camera videos and I hate how most of these people are acting like it’s a huge inconvenience that they’re getting pulled over and have to prove the cops suspicion of being under the influence. It is a huge inconvenience, but THEY decided to get behind the wheel knowingly under something, and also TO EVERYONE ELSE DRIVING. Please just call for a ride, I can guarantee it’s cheaper 👍

(Well I know why they’re acting like that, under the influence, duh!)

People who humblebrag are genuinely insufferable

I cannot stand humblebragging.

You know the type of person who goes, "OMG, I barely studied for that test, I'm so scared 😭" and then gets 98%? Or "Ugh, I look so ugly today" when they're clearly fishing for compliments?

Like, PLEASE. If you want to brag, just brag. At least that's honest.

What annoys me is that humblebragging is basically showing off while pretending you're not showing off. The person wants everyone to know how smart, attractive, rich, talented, or successful they are, but they also want to maintain this image of being humble and unassuming.

And the moment someone calls them out, they can just go, "What? I'm not even bragging!"

THAT'S LITERALLY THE POINT.

There's nothing wrong with being proud of your achievements. If you worked hard and got a great grade, good for you! If you accomplished something impressive, celebrate it! But why disguise your bragging as a complaint or fake insecurity?

"I hate being so good at maths; everyone keeps asking me for help."

"I literally did nothing to prepare and somehow got the highest score."

"Ugh, my parents keep buying me expensive things, it's so annoying."

PLEASE JUST SAY WHAT YOU WANT TO SAY.

This, I think, is way more annoying than straightforward bragging. At least someone who openly boasts isn't pretending to be modest about it.

"Men used to go to war"

This is the dumbest thing I ever heard. Men did not want to go to war. It's not a fantasy place where men fought, beat the bad guys, and came back as heroes. Some did, but for a good chunk of people, they lost a husband, a father, a brother, a friend.

People who say this have no idea how brutal war is, and are very ignorant to what's happening today. According to https://www.prio.org/news/3616, 2025 had the highest number of government conflicts since World War 2. It is very clear that war is happening, and men make up the majority of every army, for people to diminish their efforts.

And people back then had no idea how bad war was. It took until 1980 for PTSD to be officially recognised as a mental health diagnosis. During the World Wars, if a soldier refused to fight on the basis of "battle fatigue", "war neurosis", or "shell shock", they were executed by their own generals. Great Britain executed 307 men, France executed 650, and Italy executed 750.

Furthermore, people were expected to fight with honour. Japan famously did kamikaze missions and told their own soldiers to either fight to the death or kill themselves, before any chance of surrendering. And before WW1, British men were given white feathers in public spaces by women as a form of shaming them to enlist in the army. But this honour was very cold, because the moment they go onto a battlefield, they are seen as a puppet because one angry man decided to invade Poland.

Overall, I just feel that some people don't understand how bad war was, and in this modern day, there is better technology to fight, and as mentioned earlier, the number of wars never stopped. There's so many conflicts such as the Russian Ukraine, Israel-Palestine, Sudan, Myanmar, Yemen, Ethiopia, and Somalia, that many men go to, and risk their lives, and for that, I am grateful for them fighting for the right cause. But not wanting to go to war, under societal pressures, is not bad. Wanting to live is not bad. Not wanting to be blown up by a grenade is not bad.

Unserious manchildren who claim that they are serious.

Every single man I've dated has claimed to be serious about me, only to turn out to be the most unserious person alive. My dog is more serious about having a fight with his bones or eating squirrel shit on his walk.

Below-bare-minimum effort. Can't even get me a birthday gift or plan a Christmas trip. Perpetually "figuring things out." There's always some excuse about being "too busy working" or needing to "test the car before it drives."

BRO, ARE WE BUILDING A RELATIONSHIP OR ARE YOU RUNNING A PILOT PROGRAM???

I recently started dating this dude, and things were going really well at first. We traveled together, he was very attentive during intimacy, etc. But now everything feels like it's stalling. There's no effort. He didn't bother doing anything when I got sick or was facing financial problems. I haven't seen him in a MONTH, and the last time I did, he sent me home early because he had to work.

For context, it was a holiday. I was visiting his city, which is infinitely more interesting than mine, and he couldn't even offer to book me a hotel so I could stay another day. And no, he wasn't obligated to. But you'd think someone who claims to be serious about you would at least WANT to offer you a place to stay so you could enjoy sightseeing instead of having to cut your holiday short?

And it gets better. There was a fucking rainstorm the day before, so I literally spent the ENTIRE DAY sitting at home waiting for him because I couldn't go anywhere.

His solution?

"You can order Uber Eats if you want."

So...why don't you order me Uber Eats? Are you a man who wants a family, or a sugar baby?

When he finally came back, he brought me food that looked like it had been sitting around for DAYS. My brother in Christ, you couldn't have at least brought back a decent meal? You couldn't have thought, "Hey, she's been stuck at home all day, let me get us something nice"?

Apparently, that's too much fucking effort.

And the guy I dated before him? That man wouldn't make time for me EVER. I'm talking TWELVE HOURS ONCE EVERY TWO MONTHS. He'd also get pissed off when we didn't have sex, despite doing absolutely NOTHING to turn me on or make me want to sleep with him.

This guy was THIRTY-FOUR. 34. Getting pissed off over being unable to get pussy like a teenager who doesn't understand the word no.

I waited half a year for a label that I never ended up getting because, apparently, he was disappointed that we didn't have sex on our FIFTH DATE. Yes, we saw each other 5 times in 6 months.

I went on that date because I wanted to see HIM. He went on that date because he wanted to get laid and treat the sex as a final exam, after KNOWING that I'm fucking vanilla and was raped in the past.

A, if you're reading this, and I KNOW you are because you're on Reddit, FUCK YOU.

And the most frustrating part? EVERYONE AROUND ME seems to have experienced an actual relationship by now. My friends and acquaintances had or have partners, have lived together, are getting engaged, are getting married, etc. Meanwhile, I've never even had the privilege of being officially labeled someone's partner.

I have to wait WEEKS, sometimes MONTHS, for a simple date with someone who supposedly wants to be with me.

WHY DO SO MANY MEN INSIST THEY'RE SERIOUS ABOUT YOU WHEN THEIR ACTIONS SCREAM THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE???

I'm so fucking tired of men who want the benefits of a relationship without putting in ANY of the effort required to have one.

They want you to be patient while they "figure things out," but somehow you're expected to put your life on hold while they figure out whether they can be bothered to take you on a DATE or tell people they're in a relationship.

Their behavior screams, "I like having you around, but don't expect me to actually do anything about it."

It's exhausting watching everyone else experience the kind of love and commitment I want while I'm stuck trying to decipher whether a manchild who hasn't seen me in a month actually gives a shit about me.

Can men PLEASE stop claiming to be serious when they're clearly not ready or willing to act like it?

If you want something casual, SAY THAT. If you only want sex, SAY THAT. If you don't have the time, energy, or desire to build a relationship, SAY THAT. There are people out there who want the same things you do. Go find them. Stop lying to women about your dating goals just to string them along while putting in the absolute bare minimum.

I don't want to be someone's potential girlfriend for seven months. I don't want to be someone's convenient option between work shifts. I don't want to be someone's almost-relationship indefinitely.

I WANT AN ACTUAL FUCKING RELATIONSHIP THAT ACTUALLY GOES SOMEWHERE.

am I the only person who wants to slap the shit out of their boss when you are clearly doing your job? And they come by, and tell you that what you are currently doing needs done or when you are clearly working on something, they walk app and go. What are we working on? I can't be the only one that wants to slap the shit shit out of them for that

“Time blindness”

I’m gonna get yelled at but it’s come up in here recently and it’s so annoying.

People being late is one of my ultimate pet peeves. It feels really disrespectful.

(I don’t mean like 5 minutes late ofc, I mean like 30.)

It’s just interesting that it’s always for stuff people don’t want to do.

You have a clock in your hands most of the time. You can set alarms. You can ask people to send you reminders if you have to.

I have adhd and it’s easy to lose track of time. I do understand that it can be crippling. However, you can’t make that everyone’s problem. I am always early to things to avoid that. You’re a grown-up and need to learn to manage it like the rest of us.

It sucks, but it is widely considered manageable with consistent effort.

It’s so incredibly rude and people aren’t gonna hang around if you keep fucking them over this way. You are not entitled to their time.

Either stop committing to things and wasting everyone’s time, or learn to manage it like everyone else has.

And stop letting your friends disrespect your time!!
