Without boring you guys with the details, I've voluntarily entered into a situation where two unfortunate circumstances have collided: I can't consume weed for 3-6 months, and my food options are limited. I've been a daily smoker for 2-3 years and lightly used for a few years before that. 23m
Weed made most aspects of daily life radically better, but especially my eating. I've always had appetite issues, I was malnourished and underate pretty much until I started smoking. Combination of poverty and being a ridiculously picky eater, I'd hardly be exaggerating to say I made it through childhood on PB&Js. Weed expanded my palette to no end, for a beautiful while I enjoyed all food in all forms. Eating while sober was still difficult, but I was so rarely sober it was only so big a problem. At one point, I was working a very physical job that required me to be sober while working, and I would frequently feel shaky or faint or irritable because I couldn't eat. It was pretty terrible. I'd agonize because I recognize the signs of hunger and even sometimes feel it, but the moment I'm looking at, smelling, or sometimes even thinking about food it's overpowered by nausea. So I usually would just forget about eating until I got home and was able to smoke and make a meal. If I was able to eat anything at all on the clock, it was something light and easy. I got REALLY into fruit.
Well, now I can't go home and smoke and make a meal. I am somewhere else, sober, and my options are pretty limited. No fresh fruit, fresh veggies, no bread for a PB&J.
I'm only on the third day and getting concerned. I've got the same problem I had while working that job, where I can recognize I am hungry and feel it away from food, but when facing it or thinking about it I just feel nauseous.
I'm forcing myself to eat at mealtimes with the people I'm with, but it feels like torture. I eat so slowly compared to everyone, and maybe half as much before I literally cannot do another bite - especially humiliating considering one of them is on one of those appetite-reducing GLP-1s. I've never actually vommed in those moments of forcing another bite down but sometimes it feels pretty close. I'm trying to stash food away to nibble on in those fleeting moments of hunger, but that only works if I can bring myself to eating lukewarm, stale chunks of whatever I wrap up. Super appetizing, even without my issues.
My point being, this is a real problem that could or could not be solved with time, and regardless, I need a way to get a sufficient amount of food into my body in the meantime. I'm already a pretty slim person when I'm eating well, so I don't have much I can lose before impacting my health. I also just want to enjoy this, and starving makes anyone a grump.
I'm taking ashwganda in the mornings for stress, and magnesium at night for sleep. Both seem to be working alright, but also I haven't had as many historical problems in those areas. Is there anything like that for appetite? Anything I find is marketed towards kids, and seems kinda snake oil-y. I'm open to trying those but wondering if there's anything tried-and-true out there. Besides weed. I know that works.
Part of me wonders if this alone is worth bailing on the opportunity, but trust me when I say it's a once-in-a-lifetime. I know weed will be there once I'm done, and I'm really curious about a substantial tolerance break after a few years of heavy smoking. So I'd really like something that makes this particular hurdle a little easier.
Not a problem in the same sense, but my temperature regulation has also been crazy. Sweats, shivers, sweats, shivers. It's pretty annoying. When does that go away?
