Can I just say I love this sub

Not only did it help me quit and give me so much great perspective, it’s the only place on the internet where you can state the (accurately) negative things about weed. Besides here, any time you say one bad thing about weed on the internet, you get torn apart and downvoted to hell. Every comment online seems to blindly defend weed use. I, like everyone else here, am well aware of the positives and I like it too… that’s why I started and continued (many times). But it’s so nice to have a place that’s not an echo chamber of only the positives while everyone denies the negatives that so clearly (unfortunately) exist. Thank you 🙏

I'm going to rehab for weed

I leave Saturday. 🫡 This is a 20 year ordeal. I've tried all the ways, but the reality is this is an addiction I can't handle on my own. Its taken my life from me. I'm excited and nervous for the next 40 days.

Considering divorce because of husband's weed usage

My husband (33) and I (27) got married in May. I'm looking for objective advice, especially from people who have dealt with a spouse wanting to return to marijuana use or a lifestyle that conflicts with the values their relationship was built on.

I genuinely believed we were building a life together around shared values and priorities. While we were dating/engaged he wasn't gaming or smoking. I know this to be true, even if we weren't living together. A month into our marriage, he started expressing that he wanted to return to parts of his old lifestyle, including smoking weed and gaming. He smokes from a bong a few nights a week, but I'm worried it will end up being more. The gaming started a few hours like once or twice a week, and now he plays 3-4 times a week for like hours until like 2am.

For the past couple of months, he has been talking about wanting a divorce. He seems increasingly unsure whether he wants our marriage at all, and I feel like I'm watching him move away from the person I thought I married. He has become more irritable, angry, defensive, and emotionally distant. We used to go out a lot, have lots of date nights, etc. He says he loves me etc and I know this to deeply be true, but if marriage means not being able to do whatever he wants (gaming/weed/etc) then I believe he will give up the marriage.

I don't want to force him to abstain from weed, or control his free time, but it's hard to watch someone you love and want a beautiful marriage with choosing things that (IMO., I guess), are physically unhealthy and can cause harm.

Anyone have thoughts on this...? I am desperate.

EDIT: I have never posted on reddit before and did not think i was going to get replies so fast. I should add that when we first got married and he wanted to game again we had a blow out fight, and I was pretty nasty. Downhill fast from there. But we do have lots of fun together/are normally present in our time together and both have real lives/jobs etc.

After 293 weed free days, i re used…

My lungs are absolutely on fire
Breathing is tough
Mouth has cold sores
No energy
Sleeping for 16 hours - waking up every 2-4 hours

A moment of weakness helped reinforce why it was a good decision to stop.

Trying not to beat myself up too much and read how I would regret this decision to go back to using. While I definitely do regret it, I’m grateful for all the side effects that reminded me why I quit in the first place.

Thanks to r/leaves for all of the stories and expeir boxes everyone shares.

Help! Everything is boring!

Hey ya'll. Haven't smoked in 2 days, and I'm getting to the antsy stage where I cant just sit around twiddling my thumbs anymore. A big part of my usage is loneliness and boredom, and usually I end up going back to it because I can't even focus on one thing long enough to distract me from the cravings. I dunno if that's common with the ADHD gang but that's generally my experience.

It sucks because I am a person with a lot of hobbies and things I like to do! Ive got an ROG ally loaded with games, about a million books ive yet to read, and enough craft supplies to restore Joannes to its former glory.. all I need is the attention span and mental willpower to enjoy these things while sober. How do yall do it?

Emotions spiking hard

Context: I am about 72 hours into abstinence. I started smoking weed regularly around 15-16 yo and am turning 32 next month. I have had flirtations with alcohol but weed has always been my substance of choice — during both the peaks and valleys of life; it is the only reward and comforter I turn to during any moment of success or stress.

I am unexpectedly dealing with intense spiking of emotions: I feel like crying while I type this. I am not an outwardly emotional person but I feel like I’d be the easiest person to read if anyone’d been at my side these past three days.

Of course my mind says weed is what will regulate the emotions. The logical, rational part of my mind (or what is left of it) says that they are re-regulating and to stay the course. The louder part says this intense spiking of emotions will never subside. Because I have smoked myself stupid and reliant for way too long.

I’ll get off my soapbox now in the hopes that other people have both experienced this crazy spiking and found ways to cope with it in the LONG TERM. My assumption is that people will suggest hobbies, activities, physical pursuits — anything to supplant the dopamine-providing hits of marijuana that I am used to.

I would respond to this by saying I have several beloved hobbies (drumming is my #1) but ho-lee FUCK man, how the fuck do I summon the desire to engage with those hobbies without the crutch and stimulation of weed?

Day 3

• Upvotes

Standing here waiting for my food to finish cooking in the oven. I waited too long to start cooking dinner, it’s like 8:19 so I probably won’t sleep the best anyway but, I rather type this then go across the street to buy another joint and continue this cycle all over again. I’m like 8-10 years deep (I’m 26, I can’t remember when I started consistently). The longest I got was a month last year. Good luck to the rest of you.

I want to be sober again but I don't want to quit

I'm sad and disappointed.

I've smoked weed since I was 18 and I'm 38 now. I tried to quit multiple times in my early 30s but kept relapsing. I would stop for a few days and then cave.

Then 4.5 years ago I was starting a new job, it was a new year so I quit and it stuck. I think I just kind of hit rock bottom in many ways, and then the new job and new year helped me stick to it. I couldn't cave because then I would lose my streak for the year.

I made it 4.5 years. That's so long!! And while I had some cravings I was just so happy to be sober it was easy to say no.

The last year has been so hard. I had a brain tumour and got that removed (thank GOD I was sober when I found out), then my mom died, then I was diagnosed with epilepsy and depression.

In July I convinced myself I could do edibles on the weekend only. Wrong. Wrong wrong wrong. Here we are, 4 months later and I'm getting high everyday. I've even started taking a puff or two before work.

I am struggling right now for various reasons, but I know they are all made worse because I'm getting high all the time.

I want to go back to being sober, I know that life is better. But I can't even bring myself to try for real. I've told myself a couple times now that "today is the last day". It's always on a Sunday.

I think I need to give it a go where my first sober day is on a Saturday so I can remember what it's like to enjoy being sober. Instead of like a punishment after a shitty Monday workday.

I'm going to try.. but not this weekend.. sigh.

Angry angry angry

• Upvotes

Just using this as a place to vent. I'm like 2 weeks dry now, some days good some days bad. Todays been pretty bad. Im very aware of my mood which is good I can try and distance myself so I'm not being a total grumpy ass to people I care about. But sometimes I just have this urge to punch a hole in the wall over the littlest thing. Appetite is slowly coming back but really im only eating one big meal a day, but progress is progress I suppose. Been getting active again which has been a massive help to give me a boost of endorphins, but today I ran a 5k in the pissing rain and it did absolutely nothing for my mental. I came back home hopped in the shower and cried for a good half and hour. Hopefully tomorrow is better.

My only parent died, and now I want to quit weed.

As the title says, I went through a very hard loss of my only parent, and only family member (my mom), and although it was hard to get through the loss, I also had a very abusive relationship with my mom.

She was my only family member, but extremely controlling and frankly was angry, 24/7. I lived alone with her, so she took it out on me daily. This led to me leaning on weed for peace, comfort, “happiness”, for the past about 10 years. It was probably worse than the usual bad family situation. At one point from 2020-2022 there was a span of time I couldn’t use doors to come or go through the house, because she would chase me around the house with a knife. And then once I was chased out of the house she would scream “have a nice life”. I would have to sneak back in my bedroom through a chair set up outside my bedroom window, after working 8 hours at my job.

Now, I don’t have any abuse in my life. I have a place I lease for myself. I have a car. I don’t have a controlling person in my life. So I really, really, want to be done with weed. Now living alone, I realize that on good days, even some of the best days, all I’m doing with weed is making myself confused, dizzy, and sleepy/with racing thoughts.

I don’t want my neighbors seeing me high, I don’t want people in the city thinking I’m just a loser and stoner. The people living around my house titled me as a “recluse” who they never saw, and that I never left the house. I’ve been called that name a lot by neighbors. Obviously they didn’t know the reality I was living inside the house with my mom.

I don’t see the point of weed anymore. I’d really love advice, support or just encouragement to quit. Thanks for anybody who took the time to read this!

Crying

• Upvotes

I’ve been fighting trying to stay sober from this for 3 years now. the last few days I’ve been crying nonstop and this happened last time but somehow I still crave it? I wish someone could tell me some advice that could fix everything but I know that’s not true. i guess I keep going back to feel something because im not that happy but if I’m not happy inside I don’t think I should be even smoking then.

I’m really struggling with feeling numb and down after stopping weed 18 weeks in

It’s been a long 5 months. Never thought I would struggle this late on. So I smoked for 22 years im now 44m and gave up cold turkey June 12th. I gave up because I had a bit of a break down due to stress with life work and family it was building up for a while. So I went a bed on the Saturday 12th and went cold turkey. To this day I’m still only sleeping 4 hours at best at night but the whole falling a sleep and going a bed feels so weird compared to when I smoked. I never really believed in mental health before I gave up as it never really affected me but I feel really different. I’m numb to everything no excitement in anything built up a feeling of health anxiety. Every feeling I have makes me think Something is wrong with me. And just feel weak no energy and pretty worthless. Totally different to the old me. Got so much support from my wife and 2 daughters. But I feel like I’m a massive let down at the minute. It’s really starting to take me over and I don’t no how much longer I can carry on like this as I can’t see a way out or if it will even get better. Is this normal at this stage. Doctors want to give me prescription to help with mood and sleep but going down that road really worry’s me too. Any knowledge on this would be greatly appreciated

Day 1

I guess it’s been about 14 hours (last smoked last night before bed).

Today is ok so far? I’m kind of waiting for the headaches to kick in. I’m already feeling the build up of stress smoking would ease

I’m waiting for me to wake and probably be upset with my decisions the last 10 years

Time will pass no matter what, so will this

I’m 11 days into my quitting journey and I’m extremely tired
I sleep 7-8 hours in the night and a few hours into waking up I’m just collapsing on my bed, after waking up I just feel like sleeping again
Is it normal? Anyone else had a similar experience?

Day 15: Question

Made it through two weeks of vacation without too much trouble.

Now I am back home, knowing this is where my real test begins because it’s legal, cheap, and across the street.

I think I am through the worst of the physical symptoms, being in family vacation mode made it easy to distract and be busy through the sweats and nausea.

Now though, the problems of reality are the things I have to face. I am searching for a job, I don’t have friends, my car needs fixes, I have to deal with my feelings raw again and all the other anxieties that crop up day to day that I used to just dampen with the weed blanket.

I am attempting to practice not fixing everything at once, as I recognize now the big step of just removing thc is something that I need to be comfortable with before trying to do more.

How have you guys navigated this in your own lives? From the big to the small problems, how are you coping and thriving without the thing that used be your manager?

Can't win

So I haven't had a drink for 8+ months, and I just got my blood results back. My liver numbers are normal now, yay, but my counts are slightly elevated for things that are related to pot smoking. 67F, I know, I should just grow up and quit all this shit, but I gotta stay away from the booze. Endless cycle.

Almost a year with no smoking

I quit last year on 10/25 when my wife got pregnant. I smoked twice this year and I was drunk both times celebrating a wedding or another huge milestone for a close friend.

For my bday in September, I said what the hell and got edibles. That was great. Then I did them every day waiting for them to kick in eventually and that was great. My tolerance grew and I got tired of waiting hours to get high. So I decided I’d get a distillate cart which I used to completely look down at as a flower snob. I didn’t want to return to work after being in paradise with my wife and son for 3 months. So I figured what the hell, I’ll just take a few hits throughout the day for my first 2 days back to make things easier…

I’ve spent the last month vaping carts throughout the day. I’ve spent a few hundred dollars.

I say this to say, don’t be me. I had almost a year in, treated myself for my bday and personally couldn’t moderate like I had hoped. I’ve been spending money I don’t have using apps to lend me my paycheck sooner. I spent $50 yesterday on a cart and a 510 pen. It didn’t work. I spent hours trying to get it and then finally I threw it out the window and said fuck it. This has gone on long enough!

Last night I couldn’t sleep for shit and I’m so mad at myself for starting all over. Quitting and going through withdrawal is so frustrating. Almost a year sober without even thinking about weed except for my bday and now I’m here.

how to deal with the depression and intense suicidal ideation when quitting

basically the title. i want to quit so bad, when i do, the suicidal thoughts and hopelessness increase to almost unbearable. i am planning to not use again, but have a few edibles in case i might feel like doing something i can't undo, but then that prolongs the process of getting thc out of my system. today is day 1 - smoked my last joint yesterday. (at the end i was vaping about 1g a day until 2 weeks ago and tapered using no more than a joint a day) was shocked at how i was able to not get another vape in 2 weeks but now i am craving the vape again to stop all the thinking and my goal is to freaking quit and see if i can be a member of society again after my 7 year isolation and addiction hiatus. i know i can't do the things i need to do to create a life worth living while being out of my mind all the time - even though it feels 'normal'

i want to be better at creating and maintaining relationships. i want to get better habits and mentalities. i want to be able to focus and remember things. i want to be better at my job because i need more money and im not thinking i deserve a raise rn. and i want to be able to manage my own life better and take care of myself and my place.

i think weed is holding me back cognitively and also mental health wise, but how do i get through the dark thoughts that never seem to go away.

i have a therapist and have been on 25 different meds at this point so that advice i've already heard and it doesn't help.

After a 4 months plus relapse, I am glad to be back. I'm proud of us!
