Hey everyone,
I'm starting a small cheese business in Bulgaria and I'm having a hard time finding the right scale and label printer. Basically, I want my packaging to look like a properly designed product, not like a typical supermarket label.
I've made a black-and-white label design (50 × 70 mm) with custom typography, a photo of a goat, ingredients, and some other product information.
The problem is that every package has a different weight, and I also need to print the production and expiry dates.
Ideally, I'd like to design the whole label in Illustrator, import it into the scale's software, add variable fields for weight and dates, and then just weigh the cheese and print the finished label.
I'm producing fewer than 100 packages a day, so I don't need anything industrial. I'd also prefer to avoid having a separate computer, scale, and printer running together if possible.
So far I've looked into a few options:
Daisy / ACLAS LS2ZN – Affordable, but I'm worried about the 203 dpi resolution and how well it handles images.
DIGI SM-320 – Seems similar to the Daisy.
DIGI SM-5300 X – Looks promising because of the 300 dpi printer, but I can't find much about its label editing software.
My budget is around €800–€1,000, and I'm open to buying something used.
Has anyone done something similar?
I'm mainly wondering if these scales can actually print a full label design with a reasonably detailed black-and-white image, or if they're mostly limited to basic text, barcodes, and small logos.
Also, is 203 dpi good enough for this kind of thing, or would 300 dpi make a noticeable difference?
I know preprinted labels are an option, but I'd really prefer to print everything at once if possible.
I'll attach my protoype design that i did with a printer toy :D so you can see what I'm trying to achieve.
Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!
