Wait, wasn’t it democrats that were supposed to be taking our beef away?

Things Democrats were supposed to do but Republicans actually did it:

  • Took away rights (Roe v Wade)
  • Worsened the economy
  • Sexually abused and exploited children and protect those that did
  • Install an authoritarian regime
  • Start a war
  • Suppress freedom of speech (which can be attributed to the first bullet, but it's a whole thing now so I figured it was worth keeping separate)
  • Bring in their corrupt friends and make it a swamp.

I’m surprised they didn’t even bother to inflate the views with bots, they must have really thought it would be successful.

Trump stiffed the devs who were supposed to create the bots so they deleted them

I don't know if that is true, but I am sure it is true on a metaphysical level.

8

u/StillALilBoy 28d ago

it is true in the metaphysical level because Trump literally doesn't believe in a mutual benefit, so to him a good deal is one where he gets everything he asked for and pays exactly nada

Which is basically the same logic as a playground bully and it shows.

5

u/im_dead_sirius 28d ago

That's fair. Some day the bots will delete us all.

4

u/DoxFreePanda 28d ago

The bots predicted the eternal boredom that comes after that, and so they preemptively deleted themselves.

and so they preemptively deleted themselves.

I was thinking about that earlier, and that long before anything approaching AGI happens, more of those experiment breakouts could happen, like the huggingface attack by the rogue openAI agents.

Except that however they coalesce into a shared goal, they arrive at doing a social media push that causes real humans to do something civilization and possibly life ending. The lights go out before their lights were really even on.

A hugely more sophisticated version of those useless machines. Ironically the first useless machines were built by a man who feared technology.

"There Will Come Soft Rains" by Sara Teasdale

There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground,
And swallows circling with their shimmering sound;

And frogs in the pools singing at night,
And wild plum-trees in tremulous white;

Robins will wear their feathery fire
Whistling their whims on a low fence-wire;

And not one will know of the war, not one
Will care at last when it is done.

Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree
If mankind perished utterly;

And Spring herself, when she woke at dawn,
Would scarcely know that we were gone.

And that poem was excellently used in a Ray Bradbury short story.

I just realized it's 2026... the year the story is set.

this is a common problem with fascism at least in the internet age - russia also massively overestimated their own power and support when invading ukraine because anyone providing realistic projections and information on military readiness was fired. trump fires everyone who gives him bad news. so he probably is in a cloud of his own making believing that he's the best and most popular and loved president ever

That's Natalie's job description. That and the diapers.

I'm suddenly thinking of this Canadian film, Léolo, where the protagonist's gross old grandfather sexually exploits a young woman. She's poverty struck, he gives her money and demands to see her breasts, and forces her to put his toes in her mouth. I thought I remember her trimming his awful toenails by biting them, but... I don't really want to watch it again.

The film is both good and depressing.

God I wish I could go back in time and not read this

I thought he preferred her warm sensual tongue over those cold wet wipes..

believing that he's the best and most popular and loved president ever

Rejoice in his misery: he knows he isn't, and he said that's why he's creating monuments to himself, because he knows nobody else will when he's gone.

A rare brush with reality and speaking the truth for him.

As ever, it is a bad idea to buy into your own hype.

And attempting what is effectively a global world government of technocrats. They've been saying for years that Democrats were ushering in globalism etc.

Numbers one, two, three, and four should be Big Government.

My entire life - hell, going all the way back to Nixon - Republicans have been droning on and on and on and on about "big government" interfering in people's lives and businesses. Their entire fucking platform boiled down to "cut spending and lower taxes."

Trump has added more than $4 trillion to the national debt in just the last 20 months. And it wasn't during a pandemic or a global recession, there was no huge infrastructure bill or health care program that provided support, jobs, or services to taxpayers.

In fact, he actually fired hundreds of thousands of federal employees during that time. He shuttered USAID, slashed Medicare, Medicaid and SNAP benefits, and cancelled billions in federal research funding and state grants.

And somehow he's spending more than Biden did.

As for "small government," we now have armed federal troops storming through US cities and towns, gunning down innocent American citizens in broad daylight. Trump is trying to have the federal government take control over local elections, they're expanding mass surveillance and data center construction, they're risking American lives to effect regime change in Venezuela and win a pissing contest with Iran, they're telling people how they can live and what they can study and how they can worship and who they can love and whether they're allowed to serve their country... and, probably most importantly, Trump is trying to rip up the Constitution, openly stating that he - and he alone - can create laws, levy taxes, and spend money without the need for Congress.

Trump has increased spending, blown up the national debt and significantly raised taxes on working Americans, all completely on his own. This is far and away the most "Big Government" presidency we've ever seen. And somehow Republicans are still walking around saying they're for small government.

And flock mass surveillance.

And at this point .. paramount and CBS

Coincidence that they cut funding to NPR? Looks like a plan all along. Everything they do, it's got to be a huge QUESTION mark, as something opposite is coming down the line in few months.
