Other Lord of the Rings posters by Feri Irawan - A Search

I just learned about the Lord of the Rings villains posters by Feri Irawan that have been released via Bottleneck Gallery. I managed to buy the new set (image 1) but would also like to get a foil version of the old set (image 2). They will serve as nice complements to the more pleasant imagery of my Fellowship posters by Raid71 (image 3) and David Welker (image 4).

Thought I would ask here and r/posters to see if anyone has some available or knows of a place to buy them before I hit eBay.

So, I was looking for a new physical copy of fellowship of the ring, cause I lost mine, and I saw this gem. For some reason it’s only in the mass market paper book version.

Question Why do the Nazgûl wear robes?

I know that’s a weird question, but wearing their robes and hood makes them visible to regular folk. Wouldn’t it be better for them if they were just invisible and then they could effectively sneak around wherever they want to? Is it just so people can see them and fear them?

Movies I hand-sculpted a replica of Thranduil's Crown and a Mirkwood display column over a 2-month build!

"In a great hall with pillars hewn out of the living stone sat the Elvenking on a chair of carven wood. On his head was a crown of berries and red leaves, for the autumn was come again..." — The Hobbit

After 2 months of non-continuous work, I finally finished my hand-sculpted replica of Thranduil’s crown (inspired by Weta Workshop’s cinematic design) along with a custom Mirkwood root architectural column to anchor it.

Everything was sculpted and painted entirely from scratch from the gnarled crown branches and autumn foliage to the weathered Elven stone texture of the display stand.

Hope you all enjoy the Woodland Realm display! Let me know what you think.

Movies Gift ideas for husband who loves LOTR, Halo, Interstellar, Chess?

I’m trying to find a really great birthday gift for my husband and would love some suggestions, especially from people who share his interests!
He’s a huge Lord of the Rings fan and already owns Andúril (Aragorn’s sword). He’s also a big Halo fan, with Halo: Reach being his favorite, and absolutely loves Interstellar. We already have a cool little TARS bookend inspired by the movie.
He’s also really into chess, so I’ve been considering a beautiful, high-quality chess set. I looked at the official LOTR chess set, but it seems more like a collectible than something you’d actually enjoy playing on. We have a large table, so I’d love to find a bigger, substantial board with nice pieces, possibly something themed but still practical.
The only other thing he’s specifically mentioned wanting is a suppressor for his Glock, along with a 9mm threaded barrel. I’m not particularly knowledgeable about firearms, so I’m not sure where to begin with that idea.
I’m open to unique collectibles, functional gifts, special editions, or anything that a serious fan would appreciate. I’d rather get him one really great gift than a bunch of smaller things.
Budget: Ideally around $350, but open to spending more for something truly special.
Any suggestions, especially things you’ve personally bought and loved?

Other Tolkien and AI (Hot Take)

Post image
0 Upvotes

If this post doesn't meet community guidelines, please take it down (just want to be respectful). This Finnish author posted his "hot take" on Tolkien and Ai, and I don't normally care about hypotheticals or "what if" scenarios for too long, they're fun but not something I ruminate about...However! This one really got to me for some reason. He's being dragged in his comments, and there's some interesting debate happening... I'm a little mad that I agree with the sentiment. I think we all dove into AI early on, wondering what it could do, but now the ramifications (in my opinion basically evil) of what it is doing to the earth, to creativity, to humanity. Palantir. Amazon and the Ring of Power using AI for rendering/visual effects (allegedly not the script...but might as well). I'm not even sure how to articulate why this gets to me so much.

Books Curiosity about the ring.

Why is it when Frodo/Bilbo/Gollum put on the one ring they turn invisible, however, when Sauron originally wielded the ring he doesn’t become invisible?

Is it to do with their Race? (I personally doubt it)

I know Tom Bombadil is unaffected by the rings power and it doesn’t turn him invisible either.

Question Should I re-read The Hobbit before or after reading the Silmarillion?

Finished RotK for the first time this week, and I intend to re-read The Hobbit, but at the same time I am almost certain I will want to read the Silmarillion at some point as well. Should I do it now?

Question LoTR themed birthday party/friend group trip in the US

My wife is a huge LoTR fan and has said she’d love to have a hobbit themed 33rd birthday party. I’m sure someday we’ll get to NZ to see Hobbiton, but for a party with friends joining us, I’m trying to figure out somewhere in the US that would work. Our friend group is scattered across the country, so we’re all used to traveling for get togethers, and I’ve got about a 2 year head start on planning.

What’s the best place in the US to have a LoTR themed birthday party with housing that could accommodate about 8-10 people?

Open to anything, although the ability to either be in nature or get to it quickly is a big plus. Also, the accommodations being LoTR themed would be a plus, I’ve seen a few hobbit houses, etc that look really nicely done.

I’d love to hear stories/ideas from anyone else that’s done something similar!

Question why did tom bombadil have blades in the barrow downs that were made specifically to fight the witch king

merry's blade was forged by the men of arnor against angmar, and it's the reason eowyn's hit actually lands. was tom just handing out random loot or did he know exactly who those hobbits would run into
