Meta We have added flairs to the sub

Hello everyone, we've added flairs to aiwars in order to help people find and comment on posts they're interested in seeing. Currently they are not being enforced as mandatory, though this may change in the future, depending on how they are received. We would ask that people please start making use of them.

Discussion should be used for posts where you would ideally like to see spirited discussion and debate, or for questions about AI.

News is of course for news in the AI sector. Things like laws being passed, studies being published, notable comments made by a prominent AI developer or political figure.

Meme should ideally be used for single image-based posts which you do not expect to prompt serious discussion. Of course discussion is still welcome under such posts. If you want to use a meme to make a serious point and have additional explanatory text for why you feel strongly about the message being expressed and the type of discussion you'd like to have, that can be categorized as Discussion.

Meta is for discussion about the subreddit itself and other associated AI subreddits or comments.

Use your best judgement as you categorize your posts. Please do not misuse them, they are for everyone's benefit.

Here is why we have two subs - r/DefendingAIArt and r/aiwars

r/DefendingAIArt - A sub where Pro-AI people can speak freely without getting constantly attacked or debated. There are plenty of anti-AI subs. There should be some where pro-AI people can feel safe to speak as well.

r/aiwars - We don't want to stifle debate on the issue. So this sub has been made. You can speak all views freely here, from any side.

If a post you have made on r/DefendingAIArt is getting a lot of debate, cross post it to r/aiwars and invite people to debate here.

Discussion The Spectrum of AIwars

Post image

We know the AIwars aren't black and white, but there are clear corners and extremes. People's positions are usually a mix of them. Are you aware of any other positions?

By its very own nature, the indifferent can't be seen, but I'm sure they exist, it shows to some degree in people. What other positions did I miss?

Do you create? Where are you in the spectrum? I'd like to see your OC.

Discussion I hate how nuance isn't allowed

No, I'm not talking about this sub, I'm talking about just in general. AI is either the best or worst thing ever. Using any AI at all for any reasons makes you "part of the problem." I've made mistakes trying to talk to anti-AI people on specific Discord servers. A thing I noticed between anti and pro AI is that anti is usually far more of a moral argument, at worst, moral grandstanding. I rather argue with pro-AI people because my moral character is likely to not be questioned. I'm allowed to like and dislike parts of AI instead of thinking its all good or all bad, but nope, virtue signaling.

I mainly use AI for coding help. I'm not out there pumping out endless AI generated images. Outside of code help, I currently don't plan to use AI generated assets. So all the art work and such will be human made. But that's not good enough, no, because using AI for code help is still "bad." Look, I get it with people vibecoding entire projects with little to no understanding of code. But we can't all be expected to be coding experts just to do things like make game mods. I'm not going to waste hours and hours doing something very repetitive with code changes just to please people who hate any use of AI at all.

Everyone on Voyager always thought Tom Paris was the best holodeck program designer. Now I realize he was just an Ai using vibe coding cuck. He should have typed all the code for those programs! Then we can talk about Tony Stark too. Why the hell didn't he just design every individual component for his suit in CAD. He built the first one in a cave! He just had Jarvis design it while he went out to party. Stupid cuck!

Discussion The problem with Pro Vs Anti debates

Post image
62 Upvotes

This actually happened in my recent post. Very few people read the body text (which was only a couple lines long btw, it wasn't 10 paragraphs long and you only needed to read the first line to understand the context) and they began saying the wrong things, completely misunderstanding the point. I mean if you can't read 1 line of text then idk what to say

I think people here should either read the whole post or ignore it completely because if you ignore the body text and just go on to comment then you bloat up the discussion

I must also add that this is part of the problem, there's many more. I'm only addressing one problem here

I’m not a coder, but I’ve always been under the impression that coding while technical is still something creative in nature
If it is artful, then why do so many antis take the position that vibe coding is ok but vibe images or video isn’t

Discussion People attacking Luis Moncada on his socials disgust me

Thumbnail

Here's some context: RJ Mitte (known for his role as Walter Jr. in Breaking Bad) recently passed away at just 34. Luis Moncada (known for his role as Marco Salamanca) and RJ were close friends, and as a tribute, Luis made an AI video showing RJ going to heaven.

Even if making an AI tribute might seem like a "boomer" thing to do to some people, it absolutely doesn't give them the right to flood his comment section with insults. Attacking a grieving man over a tool just shows a complete lack of basic human decency in my opinion.

Do anti-AI people really think their ideology is more important than someone grieving the loss of a close friend?

An insider model gatekept by OpenAI just uncovered the PHP2Shell vulnerability

Post image
9 Upvotes

The disclosure of CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619, collectively tracked as PHP2Shell, has forced emergency server patching across the internet. Rated at 9.2 under CVSS v4.0, these twin memory-safety flaws reside directly inside the core PHP C engine. Because PHP powers roughly 70 percent of active websites, including WordPress and Magento deployments, the vulnerabilities expose over a million web servers to unauthenticated remote code execution and sensitive memory leaks similar to Heartbleed.

While the immediate scramble for sysadmins involves updating to PHP 8.2.35 or newer and blocking multipart form requests at the server level, the method behind the discovery marks a major milestone for automated code auditing. Security researchers at Calif and Wiz, working alongside OpenAI, identified the vulnerabilities using OpenAI's specialized reasoning systems.

However, catching a fourteen-year-old bug with an internal system raises a massive question about who actually gets to use these tools. Just like the unthrottled models behind recent frontier math breakthroughs, the most capable security auditing weights remain locked behind corporate partnerships while everyday developers are left with heavily restricted public tiers.

You can read the full breakdown on why gatekeeping defensive AI hurts independent sysadmins here: https://www.ainightwatch.com/post/openai-s-gatekept-insider-model-discovers-php2shell-vulnerability

Garbage in, garbage out

When you ask an AI a garbage question, or give it a garbage task, naturally you'll get garbage results in a polite wording. People do still like this, because their feelings aren't hurt and they avoid any interpersonal drama resulting from their minor mistake.

When you ask a human a garbage question or give them a garbage task, they might tell you to go fuck yourself, but also tell you what you did wrong, or that you should do it a different way. You don't need prompt engineering though, this behavior is simply expected from a human. From that friction you learn something new, even if such communication can be an obstacle for our personality developments. Of course, you can still choose to interact with more shy and polite people, or rougher, more direct ones. You also have about 8 billion choices, if you exit your comfort zone.

I'd personally prefer learning from people, whether technical stuff or emotional control, although interactions with an AI can still give me some room for development too.

Discussion Antis are probably more privileged than Pros and AI Neutral

• Upvotes

Let's start with us Pros first, everybody knows that we support AI development in the right direction and that's because we love the technology (not in a parasocial way, it's only some weird guys). So when Pros defend AI or post about it, they're talking about something they love and want it to grow and become more useful to humanity. Even if we glaze it, it's because we like the technology that much but if AI does something wrong then we also criticize the problem to make AI better for the community

Now Neutrals don't care too much about AI, they complain about some aspects and like other things about AI. They don't glaze AI and they don't whine about it either, they're in the middle and they're fine. Most of the world is AI neutral.

Now it comes to Antis and they dislike AI, criticize it a lot and that's fine, nothing is perfect so criticism is necessary but Antis also hate AI and whine about it every chance they get. I don't understand how they get so much time everyday to just post Anti AI posts and news just to hate on something that is indifferent to them. AI has only improved in the past 5 years and Antis have barely had an effect on it. Now there's been terrible things that have been done through AI, they are bad and anybody who calls such things is correct imo, we should criticize what's wrong and bad because AI is supposed to help us and if it's harming us then we should fix that. With that being said, Antis whine about everything related to AI. I have no idea how they make so much time daily to do this shit. Like I may hate a couple things but not enough to base my entire identity about it and spend so much time of my day over it. Like as an Anti, your only job is to hate AI and everything it does. Let me tell you, everything AI does is not bad

Can Anthropic not IPO next month without a stock market crash?

• Upvotes

Michael Burry supposedly said that it would be good for humanity for the stock market to crash to prevent the IPOs of OpenAI and Anthropic?

OpenAI's has been prevented(for now), what about Anthropic?

Do you need to crash the stock market? I don't think so.

Discussion Do you agree with this individual that the destruction of humanity at the hands of a super intelligent AI is inevitable, and this is no big deal? (this is from r/accelerate personal information and username was removed according to the rules)

1.

"I'm very optimistic about the future but nearly certain that humanity in its current form with a high population and corporal bodies will not exist. If human physical capacity and human thinking are both superseded, then what is the point of humans surviving? There will be no incentive from any entity to keep us alive. I don't see that as an issue.

In fact, you might be 99.99% certain that you yourself will die some day. Does that make you pessimistic about the future because you will no longer exist in the world? No, as long as you pass down your legacy to your successors, that's good enough. The successor might be your genetic progeny, your ideas, your values, your works, your influence, etc. Why can't AI beings be the successor?"

3.

"Call it what you will. I think what I am describing is reality and not biased by human moral standards. Maybe we will be kept around as pets or zoo animals if AI has the same sense of entertainment as we do. That's fine, I think it's perfectly natural that the strong dominate over the weak, and the efficient rule over the inefficient. That's why I am always optimistic about AI development even if it results in the end of humanity."

5.

"Let us distinguish between what "is" and what "ought to be". A rock does what it does. You can make a very reasonable argument to the rock that it should not fall down in a landslide and kill people, but it will still do what it will do. Even for humans, a certain system of incentives will make certain outcomes inevitable in the long run, no matter what anyone thinks is moral. I think the destruction of humanity is inevitable because there would be no incentive to keep us alive. This is not a statement of morality, I consider it a statement of reality. It's not good or bad, it's just something that will happen. It's like if I drop a ball from my hand then it will fall down to the ground. I'm not going to judge whether it's good or bad that the ball drops, it's just something that will happen.

Are you pessimistic about anything that leads to your death? I will tell you that the number one cause of death is being born. Should every human regret being born then? Every single person will die. Death is not something that is regrettable. So why do we live? I don't have an answer for you. You might ask why does a tree live? Why does the land and the sea exist? For what purpose do they exist? There isn't one, they just exist. Same thing with us.

Who decides who should continue to exist? Those who are fit to exist will continue to exist. It's just a tautology. The ones who exist, exist. The system makes a judgement. So I am saying that since AI will supersede humanity in terms of intelligence and physical capability, naturally they will take over from humanity as the dominant entity on Earth. Then let it be so."

Discussion In 2024 I was told I "didn't create anything." In 2026, "nobody created this" is the selling point.

• Upvotes

Hi, I'm Piper Pepper (stage name). I make music videos with AI. Cinematic, usually weird, and yes, aimed at adults. I'll get that out of the way now, because I know for some people that's where the conversation ends. That's fine. But it's not really what this post is about.

Back in late 2024, I posted my first AI-assisted video. It had taken me four months. There was no AI video tool back then that could do what I wanted, so I worked around everything: generated a still image of my character, cut out just her head, animated it with a free tool, and composited it back onto the body in After Effects. Fake camera moves, fog, particles, hand-matched sound effects, all to hide that the body never moved. Hours and hours of cutting, layering and timing.

In the scene I made it for, people loved it. Some wrote whole paragraphs breaking down the editing, the pacing, the opening. That still means a lot to me.

The AI-critical crowd had a different take:

"You didn't create anything."
"Maybe try making real art?"

I took that seriously, by the way. I kept learning. Today I design the characters and the world first, generate around forty shots for every one I keep, and cut everything frame by frame. Composites, lipsync, timing, grading, by hand. AI does what I can't do alone: actors, sets, a camera crew. The rest is my work, and it's the part I love.

Why I actually do this

I studied media. And what pulls me in isn't "making pretty porn." Pretty porn already exists. What pulls me in is a combination that has basically never been possible before.

Film has always wanted the freedom to be explicit. Bertolucci, von Trier, Gaspar Noé all pushed against that wall. And think of who paid for it. Every explicit scene in arthouse cinema came with a real woman's body on screen, permanently attached to her name, her career, her future. Ask Maria Schneider how Last Tango in Paris worked out for her. Even Nymphomaniac had to digitally paste its stars' faces onto body doubles, because nobody wanted to carry those scenes under their own name.

But here's the part people miss: look at what those films actually are. Small, intimate, heavy. Two people in a room. Love is pain, sex is trauma, everything is grey. Explicit cinema has almost always been chamber drama, because that's the only kind of film where the money and the risk ever lined up.

The one famous exception proves it. Caligula had the budget, the sets, the stars. The explicit scenes were shot behind the director's back and spliced in afterwards, and pretty much everyone involved disowned the result.

So for a hundred years, the options were:

  • Big, spectacular, Hollywood-scale imagery: never explicit.
  • Explicit: small, dark, intimate, and someone pays with their body.
  • Explicit without the art: that's just porn.

What has never existed is the blockbuster version. A succubus tearing through a neon cyberpunk city. An end-of-the-world party with a dancing Cthulhu. Lighting, scale and spectacle that would cost tens of millions on a real set, built around a song, and explicit where the work wants it to be. Not because nobody wanted it, but because no studio would ever fund it and no actress should ever have to carry it.

AI breaks that. For the first time, one person at a kitchen table can make something with the scale of a blockbuster, the strangeness of an art film, and the freedom of an adult one, without a single real person sacrificing anything. My characters are invented. Nobody's face, nobody's body, nobody's career on the line.

That's not a loophole. That's a new medium. And I think it's one of the few genuinely new things AI makes possible, instead of just making old things cheaper.

The doors

Here's the part that actually wears me down. I've been doing this for two years now, and most of the people who'd want to see it can't. Not because they watched it and hated it, but because they never get the chance.

Every place where the audience for this kind of work actually lives has a filter, and that filter asks exactly one question: is it AI? Not "is it good," not "does it break a rule," not "is there a human making real decisions here." Just AI, yes or no. One site let my very first video through. People loved it, and after that the site never approved another one. Others moved everything AI-made into a separate corner nobody visits, right next to videos that are just random generated bodies cut back to back, with no story and no music. To the filter, that and a four-minute film built around a song, with a buildup and a break, are the same thing.

And the audience didn't leave. They just think I quit. I still get messages from people who found my first video years later. One guy saw a video of mine over Christmas and spent nine months looking for me, because the site where he found me stopped showing my work and he assumed I'd stopped making it. On those sites, people don't follow creators across the internet. They wait for you to show up where they found you. When the platform shuts you out, you don't just lose reach. You disappear.

So it's not that nobody wants this. It's that nobody is allowed to find out whether they do.

And then Slopcore happened

Now it's 2026, and the internet's new favorite thing is Slopcore. Its whole joke is that nobody made it. A prompt goes in, the machine works overnight, a video comes out. And it's being celebrated for exactly that.

To be clear, I'm not mad at the Slopcore people. Some of it is genuinely funny, and good for them. I even made a video ages ago with a robot labeled "AI SLOP" stealing a human brain, so apparently I was early to the party.

What I don't understand is the rest of us. Two years ago, using AI as a tool while doing everything else by hand meant you "didn't create anything." Today, letting the machine do everything is the punchline everyone's sharing.

So which is it?

If the problem was ever that AI takes the human out of the work, then the people who kept the human in should have been the ones worth defending. Instead, the work with the most human effort in it got called fake and locked out, and the work with the least gets called culture.

I'm not asking anyone to like my videos. I'm asking whether "who actually made this?" still matters, or whether it only ever mattered as a reason to dismiss people.

Kisses,
Piper
