Took them long enough
4
u/Paxxlee Feb 18 '26
If it "took them" that long it was because no one wanted to pay for it.
To get a star on the walk you need to be 'nominated' by someone that will pay a fee for the star. The fee is about 90,000 USD.
7
u/Doright36 Feb 18 '26
I feel it's kind of important to point out that the stars on the walk are really not based on merit and they dont just give them out freely.... They are purchased. Usually by a production company as part of an actors marketing push for a current project or sometimes as a way for an actors agent team to build buzz about them to get more offers.. I am not saying most don't deserve them... they do (especially KD) but if you ever think of someone who doesn't have one or got one really late in their career it's likely because they didn't feel it was worth paying for it themselves or never got involved in a project that did it for them.
Or the opposite, If you see one and wonder how/why that person has one, its because they bought it.

u/fatloui Feb 19 '26
I feel like it’s kind of important to point out the comment you were replying to was simply quoting Keith David’s character on the TV show Community.

Now…and this will sound racist…redditors are very discouraged. And discouraging to each other.

Captain Anderson and his role in Community will always be my favourite performances of his, but his voice is so iconic he's great in almost everything he's in.

Ramirez! Move your ass!
I will always remember him as Julius and himself from Saints Row the most however.

I love him as Ice King and the Boar God Okkoto in Princess Mononoke. “My warriors! You’ve come back to me from the land of the dead! Forward my warriors!”
84
u/unlisshed Feb 18 '26
I loved him as Goliath in Gargoyles, he has so much gravitas
17
13
u/runnerofshadows Feb 18 '26
This and HBO's Spawn. Which IMO was better than even the comic books. Should have never been cancelled.
3
u/Derptholomue Feb 19 '26
HBO's Spawn has some outstanding VO work. I can hear KD screaming, "...I can't even end it!!!" when Spawn realizes what he's done. chills

u/ordeath Feb 18 '26
Goliath was my very first "hear me out".
Captain Anderson is such a father figure.
I can't reconcile the two and hope I never do.

Tons of other Trek cast and crew were involved as well, makes sense that both shows were phenomenal.
2
u/Sere1 Feb 19 '26
Seriously, Keith David and nearly all the Star Trek TNG cast made that show a treat to watch growing up, especially since it was meant to compete with the already legendary Batman: The Animated Series.
39
u/YeesherPQQP Feb 18 '26
His fourth wall breaking in Saints Row 4 always holds a special place in my memory. Not on the level of his Anderson and Arbiter roles, but fun in its own way
33
17
u/dancingbriefcase Feb 18 '26
I also liked how he narrated the Ken Burns style episode about the forts. Because he actually narrated Ken Burns documentaries before
4
14
u/Quaiker Feb 18 '26
My favorite performance of his is Spawn, though The Arbiter is a close second.
Such buttery smooth tones.
13
u/latinnameluna Feb 18 '26
i was apprehensive about him taking on the role of commander zavala because i was so worried i wouldn't be able to unhear admiral anderson, but my god, lance reddick left huge shoes to fill and he somehow did it. this man is a fucking titan of talent and we are so lucky to have him in games AND in film.
3
u/DerpingtonHerpsworth Feb 19 '26
lance reddick left huge shoes to fill
THERE'S the name I've been fumbling around for. I saw Zavala's face and Lance Reddick is who I pictured and heard in my head, but I couldn't think of his name. Love the both of them.

5
u/Sere1 Feb 19 '26
I love how in Community he first is the narrator for the great Pillow vs Blanket Fort war before eventually coming in as a full character himself.
4
3
u/witz0r Feb 18 '26
I love him in everything, but because I'm a child of the 80s, it's They Live! That fight scene is legendary.

u/FredFredBurger69Nice Feb 19 '26
His role in community was more appreciated after all the Ken Burns documentaries I had to watch in school. Keith David's voice alone put me to sleep during US history for a solid month in class.

Okay, I’m sorry this is just me but really really pisses me off when people use the wrong arbiter for Keith Davis. He played Thel Vadam not Riper’mortame
24
u/Lyriith Feb 18 '26
Not just you. I was hoping someone else would point it out so I didn't have to go on a rant 😆
12
u/ehtseeoh Feb 18 '26
It pisses me off when they say “Receive”. You don’t receive these, the actor actually buys them.

u/Ether_SolRac Feb 18 '26
He absolutely deserves it but seeing Zavala in the picture still hurts. Like he does a good job, don't get me wrong, but I still think of Lance Reddick first and foremost for Zavala.
20
u/Crowbiotics Feb 18 '26
I was absolutely destroyed hearing the news about Lance's passing. It eased my heart a bit when Keith talked about taking over the role shortly before The Final Shape launched and how respectful he's been about Lance's former work and inflections on the character himself.
7
u/puccilovesdio Feb 18 '26
Same, but Keith has picked up the mantle well and honours the role. My favourite Lance line had to be “Whether we wanted it or not, we’ve stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars…”.
2
u/CivilSelf3215 Feb 19 '26
To be fair, Lance left some massive shoes to fill. Keith's done as good a job as possible to fill them. But I definitely get why seeing Zavala still hurts.

"I was twelve hours into Dead Island when the Zin attacked. Now I'll never finish. I won't forgive them for that"

This line always reminded me, that I played through Dead Island in one sitting.. Would highly recommend not doing that. It ruined those games for me and others like it, Dying Light, etc.. I just can't get into those games anymore 🤷♂️

Thats cool but feel stars on Hollywood walk of fame have lost a lot past few decades since all it takes is for their publisher to nominate an actor & as long as they have like 5 years worth of Hollywood service & pay to have star made/placed then that actor gets it. Its great honor in this case but feels hollow after trump got his
→ More replies (1)5
u/dancingbriefcase Feb 18 '26
I agree with some of that. Trump got his back in 2007. But then you get really touching moments like when Macaulay Culkin got his or Jeff Bridges talking about John Goodman. I know that they have to pay for it, but I love it when people like Keith gets one

Not sure of the exact $$ amount, but it's somewhere in that range.

u/Dependent_Weight2274 Feb 18 '26
As a Los Angeles resident, the Walk of Fame is a disaster of an area. Some of the worst traffic because you’re on or near Hollywood blvd., all the tacky tourist stuff is crammed into those few blocks, and it is a magnate for homeless people; it is also one of the dirtier parts of the city.
I’m glad Captain Anderson will be joining us though.
