Is she having fun or scared shitless?

u/palparepa 1d ago
The attractive of this kind of games is that they activate our instinctive danger/fear senses, but our awareness assures that there is no danger.
It's like spicy food. It feels like pain but won't harm. Animals can't understand the difference so won't eat it, but we can.

I hope she at least got a remembrance T-shirt out of it: "Scream to Ride. Ride to Scream" or "Ride or Cry".

I had a similar experience as a kid on those tea cups. Terrifying. I will get on the biggest baddest rollercoasters out there but won't go near anything spinny. Screw that .

u/Fafnir13 1d ago
Roller coasters are fun. Spinny stuff makes me very very ill. I discovered this the first time I took my daughter to their Puyallup a number of years ago. That minute on the tornado tide was awful. Didn’t used to get sick like that, but the body and its tolerances change.

Moved outta WA about a decade ago and this brought some nice nostalgia. Say hi to Rainier for me!

u/JonatasA 1d ago
I don't like my body going through stuff. Probably would have made for a lousy air force pilot. I hate the up and down low gravity motion that makes your stomach tremble.

u/is-this-now 1d ago
I thought we were going on a nice mellow kids ride. Turns out I was observing riders who did not spin their cup, just floated lazily around. We found the spinner and got it going as fast as we could. I was shocked. Although I think we were laughing hard and luckily hadn’t eaten in a while.

You would think after that adventure in the monster world nothing would scare her anymore.

u/JonatasA 1d ago
You've reminded me of the contraption used to make infinite energy from Flash. Perhaps they're using her as a battery.

My wife literally freezes with fear and cannot function if she's walking on anything that's over 10 feet in elevation because her dad told her to buck up and made her ride a roller coaster at 11 years old.
34
u/Madismas 1d ago
Omg this is my wife. Wanna go hike the mountain trails in Banff, forget it. Love my wife, hate this fear.
17
u/fulthrottlejazzhands 1d ago
LOL, coincidentally my wife had a work trip to Banff last year and noped out of team building exercise to walk the glacier/mountain trails.
I give her a lot of credit though as she at least tries to get out of her comfort zone. We recently went on a hike in Brasov, Romania on muntele Tampa (which is really more of a big hill)... she made it about 100 yards on the switchbacks. I literally had to carry her around parts of Machu Picchu years back.
2
u/Madismas 1d ago
London tower glass floors had her on the floor beside the glass floor shaking and crying in fear. Muir woods in San Fran had her hugging the trail wall because of a near 10 ft drop at the edge, the trail was a good 20ft wide lol. There's at least a half dozen or so stories like this. Add to the list of questions you need to ask while dating lol.

u/hickok3 1d ago
I have 0 issues with heights. I have been, and will continue to this week, working on top of a 15ft ladder on a 6 story roof. But the glass floor at the CN tower broke my brain when I was a teen, and my body refused to walk over it. I managed to scoot across the grout lines to take a family photo, but I couldn't get my body to walk over the glass itself despite knowing it was safe.

Hey, I can't stand balconies. Don't trust those walls and Chinese condos proved me right.
It's better than being afraid of electricity or going out. Some people won't leave the house after 7PM.

u/cdoublejj 1d ago
i wonder if they scienced this for a solution, maybe Dr.K GG has some ideas. They understand so many things we didn't before and even know how and why it forms and how it works in the brain.
-6
u/Otherwise_Nobody8148 1d ago
That's ... Honestly kind of pathetic. We have the ability to get over shit, letting something like that completely own and control your life, and then affect others as well? Irresponsible
3
u/Aretemc 1d ago
Phobias are irrational fears. You're trying to be rational about something that isn't.
1
u/Otherwise_Nobody8148 55m ago
No they are not.
They are broken rationality. The brain making an error and trying to protect itself by doing the completely wrong thing. True rationality is the exit out of a phobia
4
u/fulthrottlejazzhands 1d ago
That exactly what I thought when I was first dating my wife. I just couldn't understand how someone who has literally no fear in other situations, often to the point of incredulity, is terrified of heights - something that doesn't bother me at all. Then I realized people have ultra deep-seated psychoses that are nearly impossible to break.
-4
u/Otherwise_Nobody8148 1d ago
And that makes absolutely zero sense....
And that's ok, everything doesn't have to. But there's a part of me that would almost be angry about that and try to get over it MORE, like fuck that my goal is to skydive now. People are different

Not a 0/10. Those faces tell me it’s an 11/10. Second kid especially. She’s laughing as she screams. They my kids would 100% ask to ride again right after.

Given the woeful absence of natural predators and unnamed diseases in this modern age, drastic measures have to be taken to teach children to face and regulate emotions.

Get this.. they have these things called baby teeth that are in your mouth before the adult teeth. You only have like 8 molars that come in later. So that makes like 24 teeth (12 top, 12 bottom) in their mouths at that age.

Even if this one's fake, it happens irl all the time. They make those cups look good for little kids but you don't have to spin them all that much to really pick up speed. I still remember the traumatized look on my nieces face first time she went on this ride.
-3
u/traPisto 1d ago
this is the only ride I NEVER ride... except that one time. I was so freaking off balance after unbelievable. Never again. (and yes I've been on roller coasters that do 0..100 (or 6-60) in less than 2s yet it takes differently)

If it’s that spinning teacup ride then my expression was exactly her same. Took every fibre in my body not to throw up.

Just like the visitors in this new DLC .. for a museum game..
You came for a nice, quiet visit to a museum. NO! YOU ENTER THE BONEBLENDER 3000 MAX!!
Museums are unreal in this game. I just found how to increase the effects of my rollercoasters for more “fun”. Have a go, Juliette!

yep that was me on that damn ride when I went to Bush Gardens with one of my friends and her family. Her older brother was steering. I ALMOST got off the ride right beforehand (wish I had) but they promised to not spin to fast.
i have a very sensitive equilibrium system, as I've learned a better way to explain it today. Those days you were just considered chicken. You aren't chicken when the ride fucks you up for hours or days.

For the longest time, my little sister's favorite Disney ride was the Teacups. I'd beg my dad to take me to another ride instead of waiting in line with my mom and sister for the worst ride ever.
