Forever Beta Feedback To all the Warlocks asking for stackable soulshards

Post image

You should know that this talent makes it so mages don't need reagents to make portals but does nothing for you. You'll still need to farm soulshards for summons. 😆

Commenters in this thread:

Reading Comprehension Test Challenge Impossible.

He's just making fun of the fact that warlocks STILL can't stack soulshards, but other classes don't even require reagents for their abilities anymore. Jesus people read please.

u/hardcider 8d ago

Average wow player reads at a 4th grade level, I don't have high hopes for reading comprehension.

If I could read this comment I'd be very upset right now

4th graders these days can’t read.

Devils advocate and shit : you cant see the comment on the picture in old.reddit and since thats the only sane way to use this website on a desktop a lot of people arent gonna see the comment.

45

u/Background_Buddy_ 8d ago

You definitely can see the comment. I only use old.reddit. Edit: Do people not click the lil picture button.

6

u/blade740 8d ago

You can see it after you click through to the post itself. You can't see it from the preview on the main feed.

I can see it from the feed, using old Reddit

I only use old.reddit and that’s totally false. If you expand the post (required to even see anything besides the title alone) you are shown the caption.

I know that was usually the case but reddit seems to have fucked with shit again recently and either its related to RES (which probably every old.reddit user uses) or something else but the captions dont show up anymore.

You can, you just need to press on the red "play" button under the header. Idk why it works like this one this sub, on most subs image posts shows as norma. I think it's due this subs custom theming not vibing well with old.reddit anymore.

Yall are missing the point. I can spam pally buffs for threat for free now.

36

u/psivenn 8d ago

I think this fun was already detected, they've been taking away buff threat

4

u/TheBungler2 7d ago

It also doesn't really work without 30 of the same class to buff.

11

u/Dr-Enforcicle 7d ago

This is only good threat in vanilla 40man raids with 10+ warrior dps. It's crap anywhere else.

.....and yeah they seem to have removed buff threat in Forever anyway.

3

u/Aggravating_Serve_57 8d ago edited 7d ago

I dunno if it will be as good because raids were full of warriors, class stacking made the threat huge

Soul shards don't stack? Good.

Now give us soul shards that contain the name of the mob/player whose soul it is.

4

u/Arcamorge 7d ago

Theres an addon for this, but if they never intend for shards to stack why not make it a base game feature?

2

u/Syfogidas_HU 7d ago

Yup, that's my point.

(The addon is very cool, but only the player sees it.)

116

u/joseph-barker 8d ago

Everyone missing the point. Arguments said stacking soulstones made selling portals too profitable. This op says mages already get profit boost now

15

u/bagelsaget 8d ago

If we’re worried about portal sellers maybe make it so you can’t summon 20 or 10 levels above your own or whatever.

These portal sellers are freaks though they’ll just level up multiple locks to whatever is needed. It’s just more inconvenient vs lvl 20 which is relatively quick

10

u/Straamannen 8d ago

The talent will push down portal prices, not increase profit.

2

u/DeLoxter 7d ago

I always gave both away for free back when I was playing classic, but made loads from people wanting to pay me anyway. It helps that for water I wrote an addon that would announce your tip (or lack thereof) in local chat like "Thanks <character name> for your generous tip of <amount>". I even added a leaderboard at some point and some bored people got competitive. Sadly I seem to have deleted all the data and the addon...I guess I deleted the game when I quit and didn't think about backing that up. :(

My excitement reading the title versus reading the comment

19

u/Rasz_13 7d ago

So you are saying I don't need to tip mages for portals anymore, since helping other players is to be expected when nicely asked?

Noice.

3

u/shukaji 7d ago

you know very well mages will spin it around and charge you double because blizzard stole their class flavoured reagents

170

u/Ezpionaje 8d ago

Not the point of the post, but does anyone else not fancy the idea of this talent? I like the d&d flavour of needing reagents for spells. I appreciate that I can just not take the talent and am not looking to get it changed just querying opinion. Would be a little cooler if it just made them free or 1cp or something.

121

u/astoriahfae 8d ago

Everyone always disagrees with me, so it's an unpopular opinion I guess. But I really like needing reagents, or ammo, or whatever. To me personally, it boosts my immersion to occasionally have to stop by the store for groceries or other chores.

But I don't respect my own time in MMO's. I'm just there to exist in the world.

30

u/Mitch_Dedburg 7d ago

Needing ammo was fine. Stacking to only 200 was stupid. Needing soul shards is fine. Stacks of only 1 is ludicrous. Theres lots of examples like this.

5

u/CaptainTheta 7d ago

Yep they literally could have let ammo stack to like 5000 and then you don't even need a quiver. Quivers are cool for RP reasons but having one less bag than everyone else is dumb (similar to soul bags)

9

u/Mitch_Dedburg 7d ago

They should let hunters and warlocks equip quivers/soul bags in the reagent bag slot (and increase stack size some). Then it’s not nearly as big of a sacrifice.

8

u/Legitimate-Fault882 7d ago

This is possible for warlocks already. People just like to cry about stuff

100%

It’s one of those things that makes Classic so good.

Personally it goes to show modern blizz has no understanding of what made Old Blizz’s games so great

22

u/PristineHurry688 8d ago

I think the pet tax with the bag tax is clever and enjoy the friction it adds. Classes can and should have that weakness to certain things. Hunters giving up a bag slot for a quiver and running out of ammo, warlocks farming shards, feeding your pet so it doesn't run off. It makes you plan before you head out, and that planning is part of the class identity. Take it away and every class starts to feel the same

→ More replies (2)

3

u/advice_dontbuyiphone 7d ago

I like the planning aspect of my characters. Keeping my bags stocked with the right items and consumables so I can react to the circumstances I find myself in.

5

u/Karthis_Arkwood 8d ago

Yeah, I agree, I've always loved needing ammo and feeding my pets in classic versions of WoW.

4

u/LADR_Official 7d ago

it's one of those things where I think it's fine as flavor but it's astounding how much of a pain the ass lock and hunter are to play compared to something like mage

the soul shards and ammo should stack way higher, like 10x what they do now at least. it's just such a massive bag space tax

→ More replies (7)

15

u/AdProud1014 8d ago

I also like it. Makes the world feel more real and flavourful.

25

u/JarredMack 8d ago

8

u/theVermicide 8d ago

Or something like you can produce them yourself on a cooldown? Or automatically generate a certain number per hour?

In any case, agreed with you. I saw the talent and found it pointless and icky. I'm not really fond of any of these just boiling down to saving you a menial amount of gold at the cost of neutering some class flavor.

11

u/Krelkal 8d ago

Just make it X% chance (up to 100%) to not consume the reagent. That way you still have to have at least one in your bags.

→ More replies (2)

6

u/GilgaPhish 8d ago

Nah full agree, reagent costs is definitely one of the things that I would consider 'good friction'

3

u/wowveteran2004 8d ago

Yeah there're a few inconveniences that I not only tolerate, but enjoy for the sake of "class flavor", and needing a reagent for your most powerful buffs was a great way to create this class flavor. Classes already got duration buffs, and now they're free on top of that? What's next, hunters don't need quivers anymore?

I do see a big benefit of this, though. People won't be as stingy with the better buffs when out in the open. I'm also enjoying the number of paladin buffs I get in general. Usually paladins didn't bother since they only lasted five minutes.

3

u/getyourshittogether7 7d ago

Agreed. Reagents are there for a reason. Also, like the post pokes fun at, it's also a bit unfair to other classes that still require bagspace for their abilities. Hunters still need to carry around ammo and pet food, locks still need soul shards, shamans still need totems, etc.

4

u/d0odle 7d ago

They should get rid of the talent completely. I remember sometimes trading the reagents adding a social aspect to it. Once again they remove typical classic mechanics for convenience. Just dumb.

2

u/The_SIeepy_Giant 7d ago

How long does it take you to get the talent tho?

2

u/passwordistako 7d ago

Back to the soul mines, peasants.

14

u/DissKhorse 8d ago

Did you hear they are considering making Felsteed/Dreadsteed require a soul shard?

14

u/Yhul 8d ago

Make them required for playing, one is expired every 5 minutes or you logout.

11

u/Kabaal 8d ago

Now Blizz just needs to add a soul shard vendor and you're golden.

11

u/supernova-23 8d ago

Are those shards ethically sourced though?

24

u/Virtual_Crow 8d ago

Soul shards only have one flaw. They don't say whose soul you drained it from. They should say in the green brackets like crafted items: <Hogger>

10

u/DepthChorge 8d ago

This legit would go hard. Give different colors of soulshard based on mob tier. Normal, elites, bosses, raid bosses, capstone bosses. Might as well if you aren't going to let them stack.

5

u/Ultrox 8d ago

Someone made this an add on already! I saw it recently but cant recall the name.

7

u/Wultatia 8d ago

There is an addon for that

It's hilarious to me that Warlock will be likely the least popular class in the game while

  • Being extremely in demand in raids for a dps class. Any raid wants two too keep up curses
  • Being the strongest duellinh 1v1 pvp class by far. Not without reason they had to ban a Warlock specc from the Hardcore duellinh tournament
  • Being both incredible at solo levelling and S tier for duo-levelling, if alongside a healer
  • Being a scaling class that really feels gear upgrades

People really just hate all the friction and lack of mobility that they sign up for when they roll the class, I guess

24

u/Khaosfury 8d ago

Honestly this is the main reason I'm rolling a warlock in Forever, I love being the utility class so it's either this or Paladin. Cheaper mounts are a bonus, but Warlock specifically feels like it'll be one of those sleeper classes that feel goated for those in the know and awful for everyone else.

That, or I'm pre-emptively coping extremely hard for why I'm rolling yet another Warrior and tanking my way to cap.

7

u/AnxiousStrummer 8d ago

I’m rolling Warrior and Warlock. Definitely my first two classes. Don’t know which one first.

Can the blueberry actually hold aggro now? I haven't tried a Warlock on beta.

17

u/Sir_Tahmas_Frahgman 8d ago

Yes. Demons scale with your stats and the blueberry holds aggro a lot better than it did in classic. If you are just dot/wanding you don't really have ti pay attention to your aggro on it anymore unless you crit a bunch.

7

u/MattJHarris 8d ago

Yep. Send in the Voidwalker. Dot, Dot, Dot. Wand. Repeat as necessary.

3

u/SevenStarSword 8d ago

So then does spell damage increase the void walkers attack damage or is it considered physical?

5

u/Sir_Tahmas_Frahgman 8d ago

Yep, your spell damage effects whatever your pets main attack style is. So the imo gets spell damage and the bueberry/succubitch get atk pwr

5

u/SevenStarSword 8d ago

I'll have to give it a test for myself. My druid is BIS and just world PVP's, I got some time to get to 10 and test the blueberry out.

3

u/SuddenBag 7d ago

Do you need some of the Demonology talents for the VW to properly hold aggro or is it now fine for Affliction and Destruction too?

5

u/stocxy001 7d ago

It’ll hold aggro better now as a baseline but the demo talents help a lot. Especially the searing pain talent that increases their damage against targets for the next x hits of your pet. Apparently. I’m gonna try it out.

2

u/Playbow2024 8d ago

Yes, you can’t full blast with shadow bolts and shit, but you can put up dots and wand, no problem at all

2

u/Historical_Bobcat295 7d ago

I think it'd be hilariously awesome if both demonology and BM became offtank specs in Forever raids

3

u/TheAzarak 8d ago

Sure as hell doesn't for me. I even tried waiting a bit, but I always pulled aggro when the mob was half hp or so just from dots alone. Shadowbox insta ripped threat. Aoe don't even bother trying lol. I just started using succubus because the damage is much higher

3

u/SevenStarSword 8d ago

I feared it's pretty much the same as in Classic

Boring drain tanking leveling.

3

u/Whynotarsenal 7d ago

Don’t think I used drain once leveling to 30. Per can hold 2-3 mobs easily if you can micro a tiny bit, rolling 3 dots on enemies. Warlock is ez mode

→ More replies (6)

4

u/InfamousCRS 8d ago

It’s alright but it’s tanky as fuck, but the succubus does so much damage it’s probably better to use it when you unlock it

10

u/TrumpsCummyOnahole 8d ago

Yep, goes to show what's strong isn't necessarily what's fun. Warlock having no movement options and the bland soulshard system that destroys your backpack ontop of other issues like being spammed for summons and healthstones make it really unappealing

2

u/NuckFuggettt 7d ago

I feel like movement is so minuscule though in terms of “fun” most classes when leveling or open world at level 60 seem to just follow a procedure over and over. Mage pull everything, frost nova, blink, blizzard. If you mess up reset. Hunter has their rotation probably arcane auto auto arcane. Paladin seal + bonk + seal + bonk.

Warlocks your managing your mana, health, pet health, and when you get something unexpected you don’t just reset you can fear, use a curse, fear juggle, like I feel warlocks utilize a lot more of their buttons when playing and just seems like I’m more engaged and doing more instead of just memorizing press 1 2 3 4.

Now raids are another story…. But those are once a week

→ More replies (1)

12

u/littenthehuraira 8d ago

Soul shards are the main reason why I've never liked playing warlock. Somehow I'd like them more if it was a stackable buff instead of somethibg that goes in your bags. That, and proper pet management is too much for my zug zug brain.

13

u/SevenStarSword 8d ago

Soul Shards and if you're are PVP when coming out of the GY you might have to summon your pet and self buff, make a health stone and then you have to drink to regain all the mana you lost. 5 mins later you can go into battle again for 2 mins to get ganked by 3 rogues and do it all again for 5 mins.

8

u/myfriend92 8d ago

Spend 1 point into the legacy system that makes all non-combat spells cost no mana or reagents after ressing.

7

u/Whorlybird 7d ago

Thanks for making me think about that talent. And can pick it up easily for a single point. Not bad.

The fact that it’s the only way you can summon people is reason enough.

3

u/sonofbaal_tbc 8d ago

What are you talking about banned from dueling? the mok gorah?

3

u/Skormes 7d ago

Warlock is one of the two classes I've never tried. Not because it's not good or because of the Soul Shards (okay, maybe a little). It's just not what I'm looking for in a class. If I want a pet, I rather play Hunter. And if I wanna cast spells, I rather play Mage. Warlock just isn't appealing to me.

But in case Forever really hooks me up again for long, I'm planing to play one down the road.

(The other class I've never played is Shaman btw. I was never a big fan of the totems. But I want to finally try one out in Forever as well. Beeing a Melee/Mage Hybrid sounds interessting.)

I thinkg this perk is not a good idea. i takes away a lot of the rollplay feeling classic has and should have.

53

u/Wholawl 8d ago

Agreed, it also impacts certain classes a lot more than others.

Hunters and warlocks still need arrows/shards but everyone else gets to have free everything? Makes u wonder why these mechanics are even in the game in the first place and whether they should even be touched.

→ More replies (5)

22

u/FireResistant 8d ago

Also reagents are meant to be there as gold sinks to keep players spending and avoiding too much wealth hoarding. i know its not much but all of these legacy perks will add up, we have got:

- cheaper flights

  • free reagents
  • less durability damage
  • longer lasting food buff durations
  • reduced vendor item prices

with dual spec in the game too people wont be spending gold to respec that much, so what is their answer, where is the gold going to go? the black market AH stuff? it feels like the economy could get out of hand very rapidly to me.

30

u/ConfidenceKBM 8d ago

Agreed, this is completely against the spirit of classic.

15

u/Vincent_Felix 8d ago

Yeah it's an chance for player interaction because someone always forgets to bring reagents to the raid. "Fuck I forgot to buy symbols..." "I got you bro, I always bring extra."

6

u/Shoeless_Shoelace 8d ago

So we can still justify charging for summons

15

u/Dahns 8d ago

I've always been a strong advocate for soul shards. They're important in the warlock class flavor, exactly like ammo for hunter. But I must admit, the more WoW progress and the more the sub refine the exact favor of each class, I'm slowly sliding into the "Man, why do I need a soul shards for sum if I also need 2 clickers?"

19

u/zelnoth 8d ago

Let us summon without shards, but one of the clickers die.

6

u/Dahns 8d ago

We need a soul after all!

15

u/Classic_Chud 7d ago

I’ve leveled 6 Warlocks to 60 in almost all forms of Classic it’s my most favorite class for a few reasons:

  1. Lore wise they’re the outcasts using essentially forbidden magic, class trainers are next to barn animals or hiding in inns.

  2. Leveling is unique a mix of fearing, dotting, life draining, and pet management.

  3. Powerful PvPers, as much as people talk about PvP if you understand your class and your buttons you can easily 2v1 people. Warlock is incredibly strong in the open world.

  4. Least played class. Why is this good? End game everyone needs you, you have insanely powerful buffs and being the most underplayed class you will have no competition for Tier gear and can save your rolls for other items.

  5. FREE 40 and discounted 60 mounts.

2

u/i_am_illuminerdy 7d ago

as a 20+ year warlock player this exact list is a huge part of why i still main it

Also I love to delete people with one sequence of casts. It's so satisfying to seduce a player with my succ, hard cast Soul Fire, follow up with a combo of Immolate, Conflag and then finish of with Shadowburn. I know it cannot be pulled off very often but when it does it always gives me the giggles.

5

6

u/Gulbeleglim 7d ago

7

u/DepthChorge 7d ago

Omg, every fifty minutes? That's twice per hour sometimes!

8

u/Infinite_Tip_1299 8d ago

9

u/Moist-Purchase-5351 7d ago

20

u/Spanish_peanuts 8d ago

Warlocks getting shafted is nothing new.

9

u/a404notfound 8d ago

Warlocks are mushrooms, kept in the dark and fed shit

8

u/Spanish_peanuts 8d ago

As a demonology main since vanilla up to legion, I'll never forget the official blizzard quote "we'd rather you don't play demonology warlock."

2

u/Diaza_Kinutz 8d ago

Did they really say that? Lmao

3

u/Spanish_peanuts 8d ago

Yeah during WoD. There was like a single patch where we were very strong. And in the next patch they nerfed demonology straight into the dirt where it remained until its complete redesign in legion.

Prior to that we were also pretty low dps due to our focus on huge burst damage, we had low consistent damage. I remember being kicked from 5 man dungeon groups when they found out I was demonology, it was that bad. So when we were finally strong for that single patch in WoD we were all elated. But it was short lived as hell because the nerf was extremely heavy handed. And that's when they said that quote.

And then they turned demo into a dot spec in legion and all of us who loved the playstyle we had before legion got shafted because there is no alternative.

let soul shards stack in 5, it'll free up a little space but still will need quite a bit.

12

u/Branimau5 8d ago

The idea behind soulstones though does present a narrative issue if they can be ignored.

I do think this is neat though, as a rogue I am excited to not have to farm mats for poisons but again thematically in the style of classic it will be a bit sad.

4

u/jackofwind 8d ago

You still need to farm anything you can't buy at the vendor.

3

u/ZeroWashu 8d ago

poisons are not included in reagent economy, blinding powder and the like are.

2

u/Branimau5 8d ago

Yeah I was lumping them all together I suppose lol!

This comment kinda sums up what I think is a hilarious and very common viewpoint on these boards. Player who openly is not playing warlock, basically saying that their perception of what SHOULD be the way the warlock's immersive interaction with the gameplay in game is, and that it's problematic for them to get a change they themselves are excited to get for their own class(even if in this case you are kinda hilariously wrong, you will still have to do all poison/blind powder creating, it's vanish that you'll save on).

Meanwhile Warlocks will be incredibly low population because most people want absolutely nothing to do with interacting with said gameplay paradigm that is forced upon them for the sake of 'immersion' and 'rpg elements' of people that mostly do not even play it. The amount of actual warlocks talking positively about this is fucking tiny and always has been.

The amount of people that can't read OPs post or realize he's making fun of it

3

u/vanitas_gloria 8d ago

What do you mean I have to stack soul shards for summons?

You better have that FP unlocked bitch.

3

u/MrDarwoo 8d ago

Do they get a soul shard bag at some point?

3

u/Zeerit 7d ago

3

u/Tweakjones420 7d ago

As a warlock main, this post is so typical of a mage. Mages always be yakin about some way they are superior while we clearin trash. It’s not all mages, but I bet you all know at least one mage like this.

2

u/teledium88 7d ago

Mage is super boring in Forever.

9

u/MechaJesus69 8d ago

Upvoting so blizzard can see how stupid this is

7

u/Belophan 8d ago

Has anyone tested this?
Because this talent is very broken if you don't have to spend money on portals.

6

u/DM_ME_KUL_TIRAN_FEET 8d ago

It’s literally broken because it doesn’t let me reincarnate without an ankh currently lol

9

u/MeestaRoboto 8d ago

Yea you don’t need reagents for portals or teleport, rebirth, ahnk, etc.

4

u/Thepalmtree2 8d ago

'Very broken' what does this mean to do exactly? What is breaking.

5

u/underthingy 8d ago

It means mages will no longer be able to charge for portals because it doesnt cost them anything.

5

u/Mixels 8d ago

They will still charge for portals because only Mages can teleport others to those locations.

4

u/hiimred2 8d ago

It's still a limited 'supply' in the form of mages willing to give portals away for free vs not. There is a near 100% chance that portal selling is still a thing, and if not, it will be "portalling for free in stormwind trade center, tips appreciated but not required" and then blacklisting you when you don't tip so they don't have to respond to you ever again knowing you're "cheap."

Bruh, that's ruining the mage portal economy. ONE OF THE CORE VANILLA ASPECTS

How long is it going to take to get there tho?

2

u/SaltCitizenYT 8d ago

I’d rather this then stealth detection on a PvP server

2

u/SirFonzdude 8d ago

Can sacrifice party/raid members for free!!!

2

u/ShadyTee 8d ago

Does this affect infernal stone?

2

u/warmwaterpenguin 8d ago

BUT No more Demonic Figurine when I want to cast Ritual of Doom! So it all works out

2

u/TheAzarak 8d ago

Look on the bright side fellow warlock: we don't have to waste legacy points on this and can go for other things instead!

2

u/ClassicChrisstopher 8d ago

Another Classic fuck warlocks.

Wtb a dev that plays warlock please 😭

2

u/blastedinsanity 8d ago

As a vanilla warlock. I kind of miss collecting souls made me feel like an actual warlock.

2

u/Faibl 8d ago

I know deep in my heart that soul shards are cool. Like tracking ammunition, it helps you feel grounded. I do not play warlocks, but I know the lain of inventory space management as a shaman. I love carrying my totems - I earned them. I hope it feels similar to y'all, and yeah honestly I hope they become at least slightly stackable to like... 3 or 5.

2

u/thrillho145 7d ago

So mage portals will be free now right?

2

u/Gold-Lab4748 7d ago

That's free infernal stones though

2

u/rcanhestro 7d ago

warlocks might get shafter here, but they also don't have to spend 11 legacy points just to save some gold on reagents.

that means they can fully invest in the profession legacy tabs and get more gold from there.

2

u/Nethias25 7d ago

So no more mage tips for portals right? Since the have no cost in making them now?

2

u/terriblecurse 7d ago

I hope they remove this talent

2

u/Nerzhus 7d ago

the tooltip says purchasable from vendors, where is the vendor selling ss?

u/DepthChorge 7d ago

Yeah, and this node sucks and should be removed.

3

u/totally_not_a_reply 8d ago

I mean you dont have to buy them. Looking at m battlerezz as druid i welcome no reagents as it gets costly just because team mates are dumb. Same probably for rogue poison. I think warlock is fine, just give them higher stackable shards

3

u/CookyKindred 8d ago

I mean theres a reason Locks have felt like we have no class lead at all. We just get neglected and ignored unless we become accidentally OP or make a loud enough bitch fit to get shit fixed.

Sadly were low pop so even that doesn't always work and we don't have the drive of Paladins to lock down all Lock channels.

Its why for Forever im planning to force myself to play a different class and make lock a much later alt in the hopes that they at some point remember locks exist. Or that theres some accidental non-class locked item that enables tank lock.

They didn’t even realise the fear range nerf from grim reach until pointed out by soda(?) during one of the podcasts….

Soulshards are not reagents purchaseable from vendors.

132

u/DepthChorge 8d ago

Correct. Which is why I added the line "You should know that this talent makes it so mages don't need reagents to make portals but you still need soulshards for summons. 😆"

Lot of people seem to skip reading these days.

7

u/esoteric_plumbus 8d ago

To be fair the comment doesn't show unless you expand the image and the image is clear enough to see what it is (if you are already aware of the the legacy talent) from the thumbnail preview. I didn't expand it and didn't see the comment at all till reading this thread

1) sell soulshard to vendor
2) buyback infinite soulshards from vendor for free
3) PROFIT

4

u/ijachoel 7d ago

Blizzard doesnt get it arent they? Things like that will put forver straight at retail level of removing the fun and interesting rpg stuff...they should the it the other way around and get you the legacy skill to double down on systems like this and not remove it. Like to get slightly improved buffa that use reagent or so
