Some subreddit housekeeping

Hello pain fam, I hope today is slightly less horrible than usually for you. I wanted to take a moment and advise folks about commenting on OLD posts and comments. You haven't been able to post/comment on old posts for awhile because I turned archiving on. The other day, a scientist asked me to unarchive a post they were using to track their research. In order to do this, I had to turn off archiving for the ENTIRE SUBREDDIT.

This is posing some problems. Y'all jumped on these ancient posts like flys on poop. This is bad for a number of reasons. For one, the OP is probably no longer active, the people forget what the conversation was even about. Secondly, EVERY SINGLE TIME one of you comments on a post that is older than a month old, I have to deal with your stuff being in the queue. I remove almost every single one of these because they're oftentimes accounts that this is their very first interaction in our subreddit, which is indicative of a bot trying to farm karma (badly, I might add).

SO PLEASE LOOK AT THE TIME STAMPS ON THE POSTS YOU ARE INTERACTING WITH!!!!!

Is tolerance a big issue for anyone else? I swear these might last me 2-3 hours of relief

Post image
90 Upvotes

Im prescribed 3 a day however I feel like that doesn't even cover half the day. If I take one to fall asleep and then wake up a few hours its basically impossible to sleep again without another.

I actually told my doctor and then that day he wrote me morphine er 15mg and that actually seems to last all night and honestly even id say is better than the these instant release pills. So im currently getting 90 oxycodone 10s and 60 morphine er 15s. Its probably the best pain relief I've had in years. They truly last awhile vs a short peak and then nothing.

My (f 26) partner (m39) of 4 years ended out relationship because I can’t do anything due to fibromyalgia

I suffer from fibromyalgia. All that chronic pain, fatigue, headaches, nausea, depression included. Because of this I can’t do most of the housework. I’m currently unemployed and on welfare but looking for a part time job.

We have no financial problems as we split bills like he pays housing and insurance while I pay for groceries and the rest we split between us. His teenage son (m16) is living with us. His son and I don’t habe a close relationship but we get along very well.

So due to my disability I can’t do much. I have about 6 hours a day I can use to do normal stuff, the rest of the time I need to lay down and rest. About 2-4 day a week the pain is so much I don’t even get the 6 hours.

Therefore when I do something that makes me feel better (go swimming or going for a walk or visit my parents etc) I prefer this over housework. And I tend to put my bag/ clothes in some corner of the flat an let it be there.

The last years he said I need to tidy up every few weeks and I did it immediately after he told me even pushing trough flares. I felt awful after because of pain and humiliation.

I know he works 50-60 hours a week and doesn’t want to come home and nothing is done (washing clothes, tidy up, fold clothes…)

Today he told me he can’t do it anymore and doesn’t know how to keep our relationship going if I don’t change this.

I told him I can’t change my chronic illness so the situation will maybe never change.

Was anyone in a similar situation?
I’m just looking for different opinions or ideas to save this relationship.

EDIT: I don’t do no housework. I do like the half of it and he said today he doesn’t want to do housework after coming home late. It sounded like I should do all of it because I’m unemployed and at home the whole day and he’s not.

Safe didn’t give me enough warning that the batteries were dying and I forgot to change them out. I thought I was clever hiding the emergency key somewhere and then forgot where that was. We had to use an air grinder and cut a hole in the back. As ALL of my meds except for today’s were in the safe. Guess I needed a new safe anyway. But I’ll be giving the key to my family member. And the new safe has a jump pack in case it does die on me.

Check your batteries.

The joy of coming home after a long day

I went out! 😃 I was in a car for a total of 4 hours, went to a comedy show which lasted 2 hours and made it home. I'm happy, but my body is asking me "why, caffeinated housecat, why?" My heating pads are preparing for some serious overtime!

Please someone tell me you live similarly to me

I am really depressed tonight, I cant stop crying. I just want to know, does anyone else lay in bed almost all day because of your pain? And I dont mean after going to work, I mean as your daily routine. Sometimes all I do is use the bathroom, eat, and shower. I force myself to walk 3x a week. I dont work or go to school. If I try to engage in a hobby, I end up in more pain.
Ive become more and more dysfuctional over the years. I can’t even get myself to apply to for disability benefits. Im just so depressed and dont believe its gonna work out, and so I dont even want to try. I cant get myself to do stuff I know I need to. I hate myself so much.
I just want to know if someone lives in the same reality as I do. I feel so alone.

Hobbies

Just needing to vent… Anyone else just so, so frustrated that the hobbies they live just exacerbate their pain? Whether it’s doing puzzles or painting or scrapbooking, I feel like I pay for it the next day in neck pain. I volunteered to help an older lady in my neighborhood cut out quilting squares and I guess I’m not safe from that either. So I end up just binge watching tv because my neck is in a straighter position that way but it’s really not how I want to spend my free time. It’s not fair. 😔

Sublocade

• Upvotes

My Pain Doctor retired so another one took over (no notice). In the waiting room is a ton of pamphlets for Sublocade. I’m not stupid, it’s obvious when a med is being pushed into that office when 99% of the papers to read or coupons is for it.

Have an appointment and midway he decides to slip in the old “ So there’s this new great med, it’s a shot, you won’t have to take so many pills! It’s amazing and I’ll put you on it.” It’s literally suboxone in a shot that lasts a month. You need surgery? Have something acute? Get in a car accident ? Whelp, narcotics won’t work because they’ll be blocked for a month depending when you received the shot. It’s not FDA approved for pain management for Chronic Pain. It’s specifically FDA approved right now for Opiate Use disorder, for those addicted to opiates.

I guarantee this is just the beginning of the pushing of this “holy grail” but know exactly what it is and why you disagree to be put on it in place of your pain medication when you have every right to not be taken advantage of if you don’t know any better and willingly give your meds away. Sharing only because I was naive and young at one point and accepted suboxone and it ruined my life before being properly managed again and everyone deserves to know exactly what they’re signing up for.

I'm so sick of people trying to walk into me. I can't reliably go grocery shopping because of the extra energy it takes to dodge them.

• Upvotes

You know that you're supposed to walk on the right side in this country. You saw me walking on my right. You made eye contact with me. Why are you acting so shocked when I don't move out of the way? If I did, I would be getting in some other person's way. Today some man had the audacity to say "excuse me" and pretend he was remorseful for walking into me when I didn't move for him. You don't get to invade my space just because you're a man who's taller than me. Now you have the nerve to act all polite? FUCK YOU. You saw me coming. You know you're supposed to walk on the right side.

Grocery shopping is something I can barely do anymore as-is. I should be able to walk in a straight line from one end of the aisle to the other end of the aisle without anyone ramming into me. Each time I go outside, I meet dipshits who have other plans. I have to plan to be in bed for the rest of the day if I want to go grocery shopping.

This one actually sort of amused me...

Things haven't been feeling right, a combination of mental and physical issues, increased fatigue, increased pain flares. So I made an appointment with my doctor to see if we can look into it. We agree its probably cumulative stress, but we've got blood tests booked in too.

Anyway, she asked me if I've been headaches and I said "oh, just the normal amount". And she said "well, none is the normal amount."

We had literally just talked about "normal for me" 🤣

I wasn't pissed off or anything, just darkly amused. Another one of those "oh yeah, being in constant pain isnt normal!" moments.

Anyway, fingers crossed that whatever is going on with me can be fixed with something simple 🤞

Able bodied anger

• Upvotes

Ive officially hit it, and I knew it was coming...

By body is broken and im homeless, after 3 decades of hard labor in warehouses.... there is no fixing it unless someone's gor a tine machine. I haven't worked in over a year and savings is gone. I got a workers comp clsim but that will take another year or so...

Different organizations and non profuts are trying to help, 3 have done anything, 1 paying to keep me in hotel when they can...

But its started to happen, "how many jobs did you apply to thus month", "have you thought about office work", "the state has a program to retrain you", "just find sone low paying job", ....

WHAT ABOUT MY BODY IS BROKEN DO PEOPLE NOT GET!.

I cant use my hands, I can barely walk, my back can't sit or stand for long,... there are days where if I stop moving I would literally would have a heart attack from pain, and days where uf u tried to move I woukd walk strait into traffic!

I cant even comprehend what type of hourly work I can find...

Im still applying but its to positions this i use my brain and I dont have to br locking in a space for hours woth autonomy I need...

Now im "aiming too high", "being unrealustic", or "spoiled!"

And its thr worse when its prople "trying yo help you" because once yhey feel they've done their part, im supposed to get better and be working so they can pat themselves on the back.

Anyone ever find away around people who dont fucking get it?????

Same reason I ditched family,...

(Sorry fir typoes, I try to fix but its too much work and my hands cant catch it all)

Chronic pain is so confusing

What do you mean I can leg press 100 kg without any training but walking hurts? During vacation, I went to the gym twice and tried random machines for fun, I was very surprised to realise I could leg press 100kg despite not working out my lower body at all for the past year. I've been walking with a crutch for almost a year now, what do you mean I can do that? Can someone explain to me why I can do this shit but can't stand for over 5 minutes without being in a lot of pain. Does anyone have a similar experience?

Interventional pain clinic? Oh, you mean chop shops??

Trying to find a pain clinic closer to me has been a waste of time and a nightmare. This is the THIRD clinic I've been to that doesn't want to continue the pain medication regimen I have found helps me most because they see morphine ER and get scared, judgmental, or suspicious. It doesn't matter that I tell them I spent a year and a half first trying everything else and it didn't work. It was like pulling teeth just to get the 15 mg morphine ER For endometriosis, And these clinics want to take it back.

Today's offerings...A spinal cord stimulator AND decreased mme. NO MEDS unless I do the stimulator, And even then, it would be decreased. So let me get this straight, you will insert things near my spinal cord before you EVER give me the medications that actually give me a semblance of a normal life? I've even offered to hand them a letter from my doctor detailing all the medications that I failed and they didn't want to hear it.

I HATE it here. And by here I mean life. I would have annihilated myself by now if it weren't for the fact that I would be hurting my beloved husband. Knowing that he would be devastated if I ended myself Is what keeps me here.

Thank you for letting me take up space and complain. I don't want advice, I am just so tired of it all. I have medical fatigue.

What is "normal pain?"

Hello, I hope this is allowed. I am not looking for a diagnosis. I read the rules but I unsure on if this would count as asking to be diagnosed. If this is not allowed, please let me know and I will take it down.

I've had some sort of chronic pain for years to the definition of having something hurt or sore everyday (it's difficult for me to describe it exactly because I struggle with dissociation to my body). However, I want to make sure this is because there is something I need to address with a physician, or if it's because of poor life choices I've made. I've been unable to find a clear answer on my own.

I am in my early 20s and because of my depression, I have not taken care of my body as I should have. I think I've always had some kind of discomfort in my knees as a kid, but it was always just because of weather. It's been getting worse and worse.

- I don't have perfect sleep; these days I go to bed at 3 am and wake up at 11 am. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night.
- I don't excercise beyond the needed walking or actions for daily life and office work.
- My diet is okay - I try my best to eat some sort of meal with balanced nutrition, but I do like to eat sugary things every day. (Maybe a brownie or some ice cream at night).
- I don't drink as much water as the daily requirement for my age.
- I used to smoke cigarettes and currently I smoke m*rijuana (don't know the reddit rules for saying this word)
- I have way too much screen time and there are some days where I do the typical brain rot of laying in bed, not eating, and staying up til 3 am.

Again, I'm not looking for a diagnosis. I just want to make sure I'm not going to the extreme and thinking I am disabled when I'm not and it's something that I can work on myself. (This is not a diss on disabled people, self diagnosis, or me not wanting to be disabled because I hate disabled people, etc. I want to make sure that I'm not overthinking this and co-opting something that I am not.)

I don't even need a simple yes or no, if you have any experiences that relate I wouldn also greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

I can’t get more than a few hours of sleep at a time. I need sleep to help with my brain fog.

I don’t know what the heck is going on but I keep waking up automatically after maybe four or five hours of sleep. Then I’ll need to get myself back to sleep. I don’t think it started after I got my gallbladder removed, but started noticing just how little and irregularly I sleep after getting my gallbladder removed.

And what makes things worse is that I’m not improving at the rate my surgeon made it sound like I would. And it really sucks going on Reddit seeing all these people who had the same problem as me improving faster than me. My pain is still there. I’m tired and I honestly should have taken another week off. My head is still a complete wreck.

Can I say I have chronic pain?

I hope this is the right subreddit for this, if it is not then I apologise.

Anyway, my question is as the title says, can I say I have chronic pain?

I have never been diagnosed with anything, but my back hurts. Always. If not my back, then my neck or knees or other joints. My body constantly hurts. The pain in my back often keeps me up. It's been like this since I was about 7, and I honestly can't remember what's it like to not be in pain. Which, I feel like might qualify as chronic pain, but because I never had a diagnosis of any sort I'm not certain if it does

I'm sorry if my spelling is a bit weird, English isn't my first language + I'm not really used to posting on Reddit

Deep indifference. Is it bad thing? TW: suicide ideation

Should I be concerned that I don’t care about almost anything? I want my neck to stop hurting. I care about that. I work hard to rest, use meds, use ice, stretch, exercise.

Things i dont care about: showering, cleaning, maintaining social relationships, eating healthy.. basically achieving any task other than not killing myself. I have a goal every day, and it’s not to kill myself. If I make it another day I feel like I accomplished something.

Is it bad that that’s where I’m at.. for about a couple years now? Since my dad died, I’ve just had a deep indifference to accomplishing anything other than the necessary things for the loves in my life. Which I do. I plaster a smile on my face in spite of myself. No one knows.

I feel like I’m supposed to have.. moved on? Upgraded? Made new goals like, do the laundry or go for walk? My only goal has been survive and treat the pain for so long, I’m not sure if I even care about anything anymore.

I am in therapy, have a psych doc. Have pain doc. Get surgeries more frequently than I wish. I couldn’t be better set up for support to achieve my goal of surviving. However, shouldn’t there be more to life? Shouldn’t I want to maintain house and keep myself tidy and clean? I just don’t shower anymore. I don’t smell bad, so I guess I have some standards and take sink baths.

I just wonder if anyone else out there is living the way I am? Just making it another day and that’s it? I don’t want to die. I don’t want to live in pain. How am I supposed to care about trivial shit when my suffering is immense and 24/7, 365. It’s almost unbearable but I’ve managed to survive it. Sometimes I feel like I’m cosplaying as myself? I don’t feel like an imposter, I just feel like I’m pretending to keep up with what I should be? It still feels like me. Idk. Im tired. Alright,
Love to you all. 💕

Editing to add: I’m worried I’m using surviving as an excuse to not do anything else. I’m genuinely having a hard time just existing, that is no lie. But at some point shouldn’t I try to do more than that? I don’t feel ready enough because I set the goals, don’t achieve them. And could not care less. Just total indifference to them.

What is going on in the US?

Yes, I’ve been blessed with getting more than lyrica and not forced to get injections and other non-useful care.

What is going on in the States where they have this MME rate or flat out don’t prescribe opioids or expect you to tolerate said injections even when they are doing nothing for you, just to get a minimal amount of opioids?

And what’s this about pill counts and random piss tests?

Can you fight back in any meaningful way against this treatment?

The best care I ever got was from the Indigenous only health centre Anishinawbe Health Toronto.

They know full well the power of stigma (even around opioid prescriptions in general) so they work very hard against that - by providing superior care and not just pain management but also access to things like physio, acupuncture, access to GPs, traditional ways of healing all in house.

So you just have to go to one building and the staff will stack all your appointments in one day to save you the trouble of repeat visits.

And they are open to opioids and my Dr even told me if that someone tried to take that med away, they would fight for access tooth and nail — a dumb ER doctor who put a silly note about you going to the ER in a major flare but him translating it means you’re drug seeking.

They do a pain contract, but they also know that shit happens. But that don’t do pill counts or random piss tests.

As long as you are honest with them, they will be honest with you.

And if they decide that opioids are a right course of action, that is what they will prescribe - with no interference from the upper brass.

They even - from time to time - fly in patients who are from distant reserves and pay for flight and hotel room.

So if anyone is reading this and happen to be Indigenous and in Ontario, I highly suggest you looking into help from Anishinawbe Health.

For our US friends, I have no idea why it’s so hostile down there? What the heck happened? This can’t all be backlash against the Stackler family?

Acceptance and pain

Acceptance gets misread as giving up, but in pain psychology it means dropping the fight to make the pain disappear before living your life. That fight often adds a second layer of suffering on top of the pain itself. Some people find it helps to ask what they'd do this week if the pain were going to be about the same, and do a small version of that.

lyrica to gabapentin to Lyrica?

hey y'all, hear me out,

would it cause me Damage to take gabapentin at the same dose as my lyrica (Lyrica 100 to gaba 300) as insurance won't refill until tmr, and then get back on my normal dose of Lyrica. I've been on it before and have switched seamlessly over before. Taking these meds for pain, not epilepsy. (I did call a pharmacist to ask and they said can't help you and it would be making a medical decision for you bro) edit found my secret stash we are all good!

Any tips on how to stop fidgeting and spasms?

Background: CRPS II, chronic neuropathic pain affecting both my hands and feet. The pain is primarily a constant burning, stinging, pins-and-needles sensation that can become extremely intense, along with significant numbness, particularly in my left hand.

When my pain is bad, which is most of the time, I have uncontrolled fidgeting and spasming of my fingers and toes. When you look at my feet, you constantly are my toes curl inwards and my fingers are constantly tapping.

Problem is, this happens so much that it is causing even more pain. It sounds silly, but I can't tell whether this is voluntary or involuntary. When I notice it, I try to focus and make it stop, but 2 minutes later it starts all over again.

I was prescribed buspirone in the past for this but it didn't help.

Anyone else dealing with this and do any of you have any tips on how to deal with it?
