SUPPORT External monitor black screen on Arch Linux with NVIDIA RTX 3050

Hi, I'm running Arch Linux with i3 on Xorg on an Acer Nitro V 15

My laptop screen works fine, but my external HDMI monitor shows only a black screen with a movable cursor.

Specs:

  • AMD Radeon 680M iGPU
  • NVIDIA RTX 3050 Laptop GPU (nouveau driver)
  • Kernel 7.2.11
  • Xorg + i3

The monitor is detected by xrandr at 1920×1080, but nothing else appears. Xorg logs show glamor initialization failed and Refusing to try glamor on llvmpipe.

I've tried restarting i3, toggling the display with xrandr, and running xcompmgr, but nothing helped.

How can I fix this?

QUESTION Ubuntu Touch is growing. What about Arch on ARM?

Hi everyone,
I've been following Ubuntu Touch, and it got me thinking about where CachyOS (or similar arch based distro) could fit. The UBports foundation now has 800+ volunteers, an installer, and a supported device list that includes the Pixel, OnePlus, Fairphone, and Volla phones. Their latest releases, 24.04 1.1 and 20.04 OTA-11, show a mature, organized effort to run Linux on ARM hardware.
What nobody has built yet is a performance-first, gaming-focused option. Phones and ARM handhelds like the Retroid Pocket and AYN Odin have capable Snapdragon chips, but they're stuck with Android or general-purpose mobile Linux. CachyOS has shown that an Arch-based distro can be fast, polished, and tuned for gaming. ARM is the obvious next frontier.
I know the hard parts aren't only the distro: locked bootloaders, proprietary GPU drivers, and vendor kernels. I also know Arch Linux ARM is a separate project from Arch itself. But I think a small start could work:

SHARE Arch is great for software development

I make websites and apps for fun when I get some free time, used other distros earlier, they were good as well, but arch just feels snappier, when I am compiling stuff or building some app. Particularly useful for my potato laptop i.e. ThinkPad E14 gen 2, I built a Napoleon themed to do list app, it's completely functional, just install and go, should I share it ?

SUPPORT [Help] Built-in microphone misses speech when I speak quickly on Arch Linux (PipeWire, Realtek ALC294)

Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble with my built-in microphone on Arch Linux. When I speak quickly, parts of my speech don't seem to be captured properly. This makes my voice difficult to understand in recordings or voice communication.

I've also experienced a high-pitched, electrical/whining noise during microphone tests.

I'm looking for help identifying whether this is related to the ALSA driver, PipeWire, microphone gain, audio processing, or something else.

System information

  • Laptop: ASUS Vivobook Pro 15
  • Distribution: Arch Linux
  • Kernel: 7.0.12-arch1-1
  • Audio server: PipeWire 1.6.7
  • Session manager: WirePlumber 0.5.15
  • ALSA: 1.2.16
  • Audio codec: Realtek ALC294
  • Audio driver: snd_hda_intel
  • Audio processing packages: EasyEffects 8.2.8-1, RNNoise 0.2-1
  • Firmware package: sof-firmware 2025.12.2-1
  • Window manager: i3

Problem description

  1. My microphone does not capture my speech properly when I speak quickly.
  2. I've also encountered high-pitched electrical/whining noise during microphone tests.
  3. I've experimented with microphone boost and volume settings, but haven't resolved the issue.

I'm not yet sure whether the missing speech and the electrical noise share the same cause.

DISCUSSION Regarding recent Emudra CA intermediary cert leaks and php RCE

For the Emudra private cert leaks firefox has already revoked them through onecrl. As far as I know there is no browser update needed for this. But vpns also use tls but I haven't heard any news from proton(what I use). Please let me know where else tls is used like curl or wget maybe and if manual intervention is expected.

For the php RCE there isn't much news except for its real. But the CVE is given 9.2 which is quite high. Php2shell is being thrown meaning it could be a shell spawning RCE. Let me know if I'm missing anything.

QUESTION Why is it taking so long to get the new Linux 7.3 and KDE Plasma 6.8.1 updates?

I thought Arch Linux was supposed to get the latest updates as soon as they roll out, but it has been several days waiting for these updates and they don't seem to be in the testing repos either, what's up with that?

Edit: Plasma update went out, thanks to whoever did that :)
