I am trying to reinstall my desktop but when I try to update I get stuck at ‘ connecting to archive.canonical.com [185.125.188.87]’ what to I have to change?
eventually the update goes through I get some warning
Then I proceed to try to install desktop and finally get this screenshot errors and my desktop fails to return
And I am stuck here in the second screenshot
So, recently upgraded from 24.04 to their latest 26.04. Everything else looks and feels great.
The only issue I have is that when I game(games are from Steam) the mouse keeps going to the second monitor which I have on the right side.
Thought it was just for 1 game but tried several other games and it’s still acting the same. Tried using game scope command to add to the game launch but it messed with the resolution.
Read something about 26.04 upgraded to a new wayland.
Finally joined the Ubuntu gang! This is my first time using a Linux distro. Was getting so sick of using Windows. Had to finally shift and was not gonna go to Apple env. So far looks really smooth and good!
Looks like the VMWARE console locked, not my server.
@antreides fixed by suggesting to take over the session using the 'screen' command but with the -D and -r options to force takeover of the locked session.
thank you!
----EDIT----
Original Post below:
Good Morning all,
I realize we are all trying to get PHP updated since the new issues have surfaced, but I hoped maybe I could get some advice on how to move forward.
I use this Ubuntu server for Nextcloud, which after updating to the latest version, the admin panel informed me that I needed to update my MySQL and PHP to newer versions (funny timing amr?)
I noted that I could not upgrade MYSQL and PHP due to being on an older release (22.04) and so I prepped my server for the release update.
Started the process and things were going smooth, but all of a sudden the screen locked here:
Terminal for my Nextcloud server
it is still 'blinking' but nothing (ctrl-x, ctrl-c, ESC,) is being accepted. This is a VMWARE Virtual machine on ESXI, I am using Workstation Pro to interact with the console, as there was a fair amount of warnings to not do this via SSH.
I can start up an SSH session, but I am not sure what commands I can do to resolve this, or can I just restart?
here was the terminal output when I connected:
Using username "administrator".

here is what I tried
sudo dpkg --configure -a
dpkg frontend lock was locked by another process with pid 3445425
Note: removing the lock file is always wrong, and can end up damaging the
locked area and the entire system. See <https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/Dpkg/FAQ>.
sudo apt full-upgrade <--to resume from the terminal
Waiting for cache lock: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend. It is held by process 3445425 (jammy)... 0s
I tried to run Top to see what process that was, but I guess because it is not pulling resources I did not see it.
I keep seeing screen tearing randomly just from scrolling dragging stuff around and when i just launched a game. I'm about to lose it lol, I know its not a GPU issue as this carried over from my AM4 build that was running the same Ubuntu 26.04 but somehow on my new PC i keep seeing it randomly. Also a note, I didn't have a riser on my new build unlike my old pc which had a riser for vertical mounting
I'm dealing with a chain of strange issues on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS and could really use some troubleshooting help.
Sequence of events:
Bluetooth missing: Earlier, the Bluetooth adapter randomly disappeared (toggle vanished from Settings and the top bar).
Reboot: I rebooted the machine, which successfully brought Bluetooth back.
Dock glitch & Missing App Menu: Right after that reboot, the "Show Apps" (App Grid) icon completely disappeared from my dock.
Dock lag / Stuttering: On top of the missing menu icon, the dock itself has become extremely laggy, stuttering, and unresponsive when hovering over or clicking icons.
Video:
What I've tried so far:
Toggled the Ubuntu Dock extension in GNOME Extensions.
Logged out and logged back in.
System specs / environment:
OS: Ubuntu 26.04 LTS (GNOME Shell)
Session: Wayland (default)
Has anyone experienced this cascading issue or know if a recent shell update / graphics compositor issue causes this dock behavior? Any terminal commands to completely reset the Ubuntu Dock settings and GNOME Shell configuration would be greatly appreciated.
Anyone else VLC suddenly switched to dark mode without you knowing? Of course,o use system dark mode since the day one, (25.10)but VlC was in the light mode until now
