I’m posting because I’m genuinely at my wit’s end, and I need advice from people who understand cybersecurity better than I do.
I believe multiple computers I own may have been compromised, and I’m having a difficult time figuring out what’s actually happening, how it started, or how to stop it.
I’m running Windows 11, and I’ve been experiencing a series of problems that have made me increasingly concerned about the security of my devices.
Some of the issues include:
Files and important documents disappearing, including personal and professional projects.
Unexplained system behavior and recurring errors.
Problems accessing or understanding Windows security and Event Viewer information.
Concerns about whether my accounts, cloud storage, or computers are being accessed without authorization.
Similar concerns involving more than one computer.
I’ve tried troubleshooting, looking through Windows settings and logs, using security software, and attempting file recovery with Disk Drill. Unfortunately, I still don’t have a clear explanation.
What makes this particularly frustrating is that I’ve lost access to important work, including projects I’ve spent a significant amount of time developing.
I want to be clear: I don’t have definitive proof that someone hacked my computers. I’m trying to distinguish an actual security compromise from Windows problems, accidental file deletion, cloud synchronization issues, or something else.
I’m not looking for conspiracy theories or someone to tell me to reinstall Windows without understanding the problem first.
What I need help with:
How can I determine whether multiple Windows computers have actually been compromised?
What specific Windows Event Viewer logs, security events, or indicators of compromise should I examine?
Could a compromised Microsoft account or cloud synchronization issue explain problems across multiple devices?
How can I preserve evidence before resetting or reinstalling anything?
What steps should I take to secure my accounts and devices without potentially destroying recoverable files?
I’m willing to provide screenshots, event logs (with personal information removed), and technical details.
I’m not a cybersecurity professional, but I’m comfortable with technology and willing to follow a systematic troubleshooting process.
I just want to understand what’s happening, protect my information, and recover whatever I can.
