Laptop Request -Others Looking for laptop for work and gaming

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • Country

Hong Kong; could also purchase from China and Amazon

  • Budget

20000 HKD, which is around 2500 USD

  • Are you open to refurbs/used options?

No

  • Screen size

Any

  • Weight limit

Medium to light weight

  • Purpose

For work and gaming; needs to be standard enough to be used in a meeting

  • Form factor

None

  • Intended usage

Mostly used to play indie games such as The Binding of Issac, Balatro; the biggest game I might run would be Battlefield 6 or Project Wingman

  • Desired battery life

Around 4 is good

I want a laptop that could be used in a meeting; a giant noisy fan would be terrible, and a bulky structure would look unprofessional. I am currently rebuilding my PC for main gaming purposes, but having a laptop for work travel and meetings is good to have.

Friend suggested Lenovo unveils Legion Y7000X 2026, looking for other opions.

Thanks a lot

Laptop Request -Others Hilfe beim Laptop-Kauf gesucht: 3 Jahre gespart, 3 Monate recherchiert – und mir raucht der Kopf! (Budget ~3.000 €)

Hey zusammen,

  5. AnschlĂŒsse
    - Mindestens 2 × USB-A.

Laptop Request US Stuck Between 2 Lenovo Yogas

‱ Upvotes

Hey there, I bought 2 open box laptops. Trying to decide which one I should keep. They are both Lenovo Yoga 7i 2 in 1s with 512gb SSD and 16 inch screens. I’m looking at longevity, reliability, value, and performance.

1 is the 2024 model with Intel 7 Ultra Series 2 256V, 16gb RAM, Intel Arc 140V graphics and LCD 2K screen. I paid $683 for this one.

The other is the 2026 Aura Edition with Intel 7 Ultra Series 3 355V, 24gb RAM, Intel Graphics, and OLED 2K screen. I paid $963 for this one.

https://www.bestbuy.com/product/lenovo-yoga-7i-2-in-1-16-2k-oled-touchscreen-laptop-intel-core-ultra-7-355-2026-24gb-memory-512gb-storage-luna-grey/JJGH3KXVZC/sku/6671003?sb_share_source=PDP&ref=app_pdp&loc=pdp_page

I do like the OLED, especially since it has more RAM, but not sure if it’s worth the $280 difference. I really appreciate any, and all, help in this.

Laptop Request -Others Best Mechanical Engineering Laptop (France/Canada -- 1.5kCAD 1kEUR)

[FORM BELOW]

Hey guys, I was wondering if you had any recommendations for laptops as an upcoming mechanical engineering student. I often hear that MacBooks aren’t as well-suited for engineering students, so I was wondering if you guys had any recommendations.

For reference, I currently have an M1 MacBook that works perfectly fine, and I was wondering if it could handle most CAD and mechanical engineering software, or if I would need to get another computer. If so, what computer would you recommend?

To clarify my reasoning behind asking Reddit, it’s mainly because all I can find when researching are sponsored results and fake testimonials. I would prefer an honest review from someone who actually knows computers as I am not really into all that.

-⚠⚠to be a long-term investment because my broke self cannot afford this again for a long time.

And after years of suffering with what is allegedly a laptop my fraud of a "laptop" I'm finally prepared (with no more than a 1100 sterling pounds bcz I'm a broke student and this is the fruit of my labour.

I heard about the ASUS V16,ASUS TUF Gaming A15 too but don't have enough experience to compare properly because they don't sound that far different.

Also if possible where is best to buy them (UK,England)

Laptop Request -Others Suggest a Windows work laptop under â‚č35-40k. Mostly for Excel, browsing, meetings, movies (Location: India)

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to buy a Windows work laptop with a budget of (â‚č35k INR, can push to â‚č40k if it's really worth it). Location is India.

My use case:
- Work only - MS Office (heavy Excel), Chrome with 10-15 tabs, Zoom/Meet calls
- No gaming, no video editing

What I'm looking for:
- 8GB RAM minimum (16GB if possible in this budget)
- 512GB SSD preferred, okay with 256GB if upgradable
- Good battery life (6+ hours) and decent display for long hours
- Windows 11 pre-installed

If there is a really solid option at â‚č38-40k that will last 4-5 years without issues, I'm happy to stretch.

Please suggest the best value for money options right now. If you are using something under 40k for work, how's your experience?

Thanks in advance!

Laptop Request -Others Looking for a work laptop.

I am located in Mexico, my budget is 10,000 MXN (536 USD). Refurbished is okay, any screen size works. The heaviest I am willing to go is 2 kilos, This laptop would be my primary work device, so it wouldn't be running any CPU intensive software or games. A standard clamshell configuration works best. An 8 hour or more battery life would be ideal. Battery life and weight are main concerns. A good amount of storage would be ideal (ideal storage would be 256 gb). As long as the laptop isn't too big to fit in the average backpack size isn't a concern. Performance must be functional and reliable for every day work.

Maybe

* **Screen size**

Ideally no smaller than 14"

* **Weight limit**

Any

* **Purpose**

Gaming and general use

Nothing out of the ordinary.

* **Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life**

Performance is the biggest priority, then battery life, then size, and weight is not an issue.

* **Info/Requirements**

Nothing specific that hasn't been said above. I'm not that knowledgeable about specs and the like, my current laptop (Acer Nitro AN515-45) has been struggling for a while now, and recently had a RAM slot (port?) die - and it's not happy at 8GB haha. I've been considering waiting for Black Friday/Cyber Monday bearing in mind how much prices have risen recently, but I wanted to get people-who-know-what-they're-talking-about's advice on what to look out for, how much things will cost and whether it could even be worth just repairing my current laptop.

Thank you for reading and taking the time!

Laptop Request -Others Laptop for AI/LLM Dev & Design ($2500 Budget, 64GB RAM). Asus ROG Flow Z13 vs. ThinkPad X1 Carbon, or better alternatives

Hi everyone! I need some advice on choosing a new daily driver for AI development (running/fine-tuning smaller local LLMs, working with vector DBs) and UI/UX or graphic design.
My constraints & workflow:
Budget: Max $2500.
RAM: Strictly 64GB minimum (crucial for local development).
Portability: Non-negotiable. I split my time between two cities and plan to relocate soon, so I need something easy to travel with.
Compute: Hybrid approach (local deployment for lighter models, cloud for heavy workloads).
Right now, I am torn between two completely different concepts:
ASUS ROG Flow Z13: I love the tablet form factor and stylus support for design work, plus it has an NVIDIA GPU. However, I’m worried about the limited VRAM (6-8GB) and potential thermal throttling under sustained ML workloads.
ThinkPad X1 Carbon (Gen 14): The gold standard for reliability and portability. However, the complete lack of a dedicated NVIDIA GPU means I will be entirely dependent on cloud compute for any model inference or AI tasks.
My questions for the community:
The eGPU & Upgrade Path: Since RAM is soldered in both of these thin-and-light options, I must buy the 64GB version straight away. But what about the GPU? Is the ASUS Flow Z13 + ROG XG Mobile (eGPU) ecosystem a viable long-term strategy for a split-location setup? Or do bandwidth bottlenecks and high costs make it impractical for AI dev?
Local VRAM vs. Cloud: Is a mobile NVIDIA GPU with 6-8GB VRAM even worth it for local AI work, or should I just rely entirely on 64GB system RAM + cloud and get the cleaner ThinkPad?
Better Alternatives under $2500: Are there any well-balanced 14-inch or slim 16-inch laptops that bridge this gap? I need a color-accurate screen for design, a strong NVIDIA GPU, and a cooling system that won't melt during long coding sessions. Should I look into the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14/G16, ASUS ProArt PX13, or Lenovo ThinkPad P-series instead?
Would love to hear from anyone doing ML/AI development or design on the go. Thanks in advance!

Laptop Request US Best Windows laptop under $500 for Power BI, Power Query, and data analysis?

Hey everyone!

I’m looking for some advice from people who have experience with Power BI, data analytics, and Windows laptops.

I currently own a MacBook Air M4, which I absolutely love and plan to keep as my main computer. However, I’m getting more involved in data analytics, particularly Power BI, Power Query, Excel, and working with small business datasets.
Since Power BI Desktop isn’t natively available on macOS, I’ve been thinking about purchasing a secondary Windows laptop specifically for this kind of work.

My budget is around $500, and I’d prefer not to spend $1,000+ on another computer when I already have a great MacBook.

A little about what I’m looking for:

Budget: $500 or less.
Main uses: Power BI Desktop, Power Query, advanced Excel, data cleaning, modeling, and visualization.

Workload: Mostly small business datasets, reports, dashboards, and analytical projects. Nothing enterprise-scale at this point.

Condition: I’m completely open to used, refurbished, or new laptops if the value is good.

Preferences: I’ve been looking at Lenovo ThinkPads, but I’m open to other brands.

I’m not particularly knowledgeable about computer hardware, so I’m having trouble figuring out which specifications actually matter for these applications.

Would 16GB of RAM be sufficient, or should I prioritize 32GB? How important is the processor for Power BI and Power Query? Are older business laptops a better investment than newer budget laptops?

I’m also wondering whether a gaming laptop would offer any real advantage for data analysis, or if that would be unnecessary.

If you had $500 to spend on a reliable Windows laptop for Power BI and data analytics in 2026, what would you buy?

I’d really appreciate specific model recommendations, minimum specifications, or even suggestions on where to find good refurbished deals.

Thanks in advance!
