Hey zusammen,

USA
1500, preferably closer to 1000
Yes
I think I currently have a 15", I would prefer somewhere between 15-17"
Light enough to carry to class
Schoolwork & Gaming
Standard is fine but I am open to other options
More complex & detailed games like Resident Evil 4 Remake and RE 7-9, Baldur's Gate 3, etc. Outside of that I really only play Stardew Valley and run browser and Word.
I would prefer around 3-4 hours
Performance is most important, after that Size & Weight, Battery Life isn't the highest on my list
No Chromebook or Mac

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
Hong Kong; could also purchase from China and Amazon
20000 HKD, which is around 2500 USD
No
Any
Medium to light weight
For work and gaming; needs to be standard enough to be used in a meeting
None
Mostly used to play indie games such as The Binding of Issac, Balatro; the biggest game I might run would be Battlefield 6 or Project Wingman
Around 4 is good
I want a laptop that could be used in a meeting; a giant noisy fan would be terrible, and a bulky structure would look unprofessional. I am currently rebuilding my PC for main gaming purposes, but having a laptop for work travel and meetings is good to have.
Friend suggested Lenovo unveils Legion Y7000X 2026, looking for other opions.
Thanks a lot

Hi everyone! I need some advice on choosing a new daily driver for AI development (running/fine-tuning smaller local LLMs, working with vector DBs) and UI/UX or graphic design.
My constraints & workflow:
Budget: Max $2500.
RAM: Strictly 64GB minimum (crucial for local development).
Portability: Non-negotiable. I split my time between two cities and plan to relocate soon, so I need something easy to travel with.
Compute: Hybrid approach (local deployment for lighter models, cloud for heavy workloads).
Right now, I am torn between two completely different concepts:
ASUS ROG Flow Z13: I love the tablet form factor and stylus support for design work, plus it has an NVIDIA GPU. However, I’m worried about the limited VRAM (6-8GB) and potential thermal throttling under sustained ML workloads.
ThinkPad X1 Carbon (Gen 14): The gold standard for reliability and portability. However, the complete lack of a dedicated NVIDIA GPU means I will be entirely dependent on cloud compute for any model inference or AI tasks.
My questions for the community:
The eGPU & Upgrade Path: Since RAM is soldered in both of these thin-and-light options, I must buy the 64GB version straight away. But what about the GPU? Is the ASUS Flow Z13 + ROG XG Mobile (eGPU) ecosystem a viable long-term strategy for a split-location setup? Or do bandwidth bottlenecks and high costs make it impractical for AI dev?
Local VRAM vs. Cloud: Is a mobile NVIDIA GPU with 6-8GB VRAM even worth it for local AI work, or should I just rely entirely on 64GB system RAM + cloud and get the cleaner ThinkPad?
Better Alternatives under $2500: Are there any well-balanced 14-inch or slim 16-inch laptops that bridge this gap? I need a color-accurate screen for design, a strong NVIDIA GPU, and a cooling system that won't melt during long coding sessions. Should I look into the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14/G16, ASUS ProArt PX13, or Lenovo ThinkPad P-series instead?
Would love to hear from anyone doing ML/AI development or design on the go. Thanks in advance!
