That they are personally super wealthy.
That their children can buy islands and protect themselves from the masses, when all the systems erode, because you absolutely robbed the country blind while in power. Maybe. Maybe how they find the will to go on, is by completely ignoring the responsibility of government, to just secure themselves and the ones in the immediate vicinity, that give immediate gratification. Maybe. I’m not saying this is what they are doing, it just one of many possibilities.
