discussion I spent 8 months building a Reaper-Native, FL-style Piano Roll to completely replace Reaper's MIDI Editor... and it's free.

What is something you made with REAPER that you'd like to show us and get feedback on?
Please post full links (no shorteners) to content you would like to showcase! A short description of your process, gear, and plugins used would be helpful.
Please give feedback to what others post here!

If you, the original poster (OP), post with the Help Request flair, and receive a helpful answer, you can award a point to that user and flair the post as Resolved.
To do this, reply to the comment with thanks or thank you somewhere in the comment. It is case-insensitive.
What are the points for? We have been helping each other here for 14 years. It's less an incentive for imaginary points but hopefully an indication of reputation (not quite analogous to post count on the official forum). We'll see how this works out, if it does more good than harm.
You may notice mods distributing points especially if a user has not. We use a trigger command comment which you may see if we haven't deleted it after awarding. We delete since it creates clutter.

I see their site come up on search but it times out. I have tried on multiple networks
also, any alternative sources for reaper reaplugs?
I've never used Reaper and am curious about it.

I’ve recording a deftones cover and at the time of automating the volume and the eq sounds a weird crunch/clip. Any help?

I'm not sure how this will go as the initial reaction I got was not the best; I probably didn't clarify exactly what I was thinking, but ehh..
I patched libSwell.so to add a collapsible sidebar to REAPER's file
dialogs on Linux, similar to what you'd expect from a native file manager.
This was developed with the help of Claude (AI), so worth mentioning in
the spirit of transparency.
Shows up in any REAPER file dialog — open/save project, render output
path, browse buttons, etc. Does not affect the Insert Media dialog.
(All are can be removed/modified)
The sidebar has three sections:
- Places — Home, Desktop, Downloads, Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos,
Trash
- Bookmarks — synced with ~/.config/gtk-3.0/bookmarks
- Devices — mounted block devices
Right-clicking a sidebar item gives you: Add to Bookmarks / Remove from
Bookmarks / Copy path / Open in file manager. Right-clicking a section
header lets you bookmark whatever folder you're currently browsing.
Also adds file operations directly in the dialog via right-clicking the
file list: new folder, rename, move to trash, copy/cut/paste, open in file
manager, copy path. Keyboard shortcuts work too — Ctrl+C/X/V, Del, F2,
Ctrl+Shift+N.
Install: grab the pre-built libSwell.so from the releases folder, back up
your original, and drop it into your REAPER directory. No recompile
needed. Build-from-source instructions are in the README if you prefer
that.
GitHub: https://github.com/Stinkumbeans/reaper-swell-sidebar
The stock SWELL dialog hasn't changed in a long time so this should stay
compatible across REAPER updates. If anything breaks after an update, open
an issue on the repo.

Hi everyone, I've been having issues with my audio interface (Pyle PMUX6) causing a squeal and noise issue after 5-20 minutes of having it plugged in/recording in reaper. My original suspicion was grounding issues, but I realized later that other apps like audacity work perfectly fine with it plugged in, and it only happens on my Mac (my windows PC is unaffected). Does anyone know what this is? (For more clarity, it happens regardless of whether any mics are plugged in, and is around 40-42db on the meter.)
By the way I am aware this is a pretty cheap interface, but it gets the job done for what I'm using it for.

My card's volume pot got really scratchy so I started to control volume via Windows much more. To my surprise, ASIO's volume from Reaper turned out to be independent from Windows volume (how the hell I did not know that after 20 years is a mystery). I can manipulate the master bus in Reaper, which is not ideal for obvious reasons, or I can use a volume on my card's mixer (software panel) but that thing affects both Reaper and Windows sound and it's annoying to use (no keystrokes like with Windows volume). So... how can I control the volume after Reaper's master? Some kind of routing software with a fader maybe? I have a bunch of outputs so I could do it with a physical mixer, but I really don't want to add more physical gear to avoid one scratchy pot. My card is Roland Octa-Capture and the routing in the panel is very basic (or I just don't understand it enough to make it work).

Hey all, I have a Valeton GP150, a nice little stompbox with an expression pedal. It does a lot of cool stuff, including acting as an audio interface with my Macbook running Reaper. I have a bass vi tuned in fifths plugged into it.
Should I generally run clean signal from the Valeton into Reaper and apply effects there, or run pedals/amp/cab/IR through the Valeton? I have the Tone3000 plugin installed in Reaper, which is awesome, except that most effects chains there just end up sounding . . . bad somehow.
Probably lack of experience, but I tend to get significantly better sound from the Valeton, but then that removes flexibility.
Thanks!

A little update on the Reaper AAF importer I posted about a few months ago!
After about six months of working on it on and off it’s getting close. It now handles many straightforward audio AAF transfers and I’ve been improving compatibility, fixing bugs, and testing exports from different editors
Along the way, I’ve also found a promising route for converting native Logic Pro project folders into Reaper projects. That could become a future addition, although it isn’t an available feature yet
It’s still a beta, so I’m not promising compatibility with every AAF or every editor’s export settings. There’s no firm release date yet, but I’m hoping to share it with the community within the next few weeks once the remaining checks are done

Hi!
So. I switched over to Reaper from Audacity a few years ago - it's been working for me, except for one thing, which is kind of getting in the way of me making music the way I actually want to.
In Audacity, if your mix is clipping, pressing the 'play' button will show you what it sounds like. I used to not pay too much attention to whether something I made was clipping or not; I was more attuned to whether it was affecting the sound in a way I didn't like.
In Reaper, if your peak is even 0.1 over 0, you get horrible red lines all over the graph when you render it, and in previewing you get a red bar over the levels that doesn't go away unless you click it. But you never actually hear what the effect of that is until you render the track, which usually makes fine-tuning 'within the red' too time-consuming to be feasible (because you have to make a new render for every small change). So I've learned to avoid the red at all costs, and to just use the heuristic of keeping the peaks only as big as they absolutely need to be.
You might think "well good!" but the thing is, I *like* the results I get in Audacity much better. My efforts to avoid clipping (for example using ReaComp and ReaLimit) have left me with results that sound unnatural to me. I want to be able to make things rough and to play with raw sounds, because that feels like how I really want to express myself. A small amount of clipping is basically unnoticeable to me, and more can sometimes add to the sound I want.
OK, motivation out of the way, here's the question: Is there any way to force Reaper to show me what the actual render will sound like in real-time?
I have a vague understanding that Reaper doesn't preview clipping because it uses floating-point arithmetic rather than fixed-point, meaning it theoretically never hits a ceiling that would cause it to clip, and that clipping creeps into renders because that's when Reaper has to convert floating-point into fixed-point (though please correct me if I'm wrong about this). But I don't know, is there a way to simulate a ceiling?
My feeling is that if there was, I would have found it by now, but I haven't seen this question asked explicitly anywhere, so I thought I'd at least ask! Reaper really does it for me otherwise, so would love if I could keep using it. I appreciate though that it might just be that I should user Reaper for some things and Audacity for others. Anyway, thank you :)

I want to record an album. I've been using my GP-100 direct in to my Focusrite and using amp modellers on there. Something just sounds off. It sounds so noisy and messy. It may just be my lack of recording experience but I really want to record my own album; just don't really have the funds to go to a professional studio.

Hello fellow users,
I have a Komplete Kontrol mk2 s61, Windows 11, Reaper 7.8x with a UA Volt 276, and yall, I've been having so many troubles getting it to work with Reaper. For almost 2 years, when I have a song idea pop into my head, I'll go and sit down at the keyboard, open Reaper, then turn on the keyboard (because you have to with the Reakontrol script), but when I play a key, it just doesn't work. I've gone through a dozen YT university tutorials, saved templates on the track AND project, but when it's time to get my ideas into the project, I end up spending more time troubleshooting than keeping the groove in my mind.
Does anyone else have Komplete Kontrol--either the software or the keybaord--who I can talk to for some advice? Or maybe there are some templates online I haven't found yet that you found helpful and compatible?
Prince could make a whole song in one night, and that's my goal. I just need to be able to get the songs I hear out quickly, at least the skeleton of it so I can build from there. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hello Everyone. I am new to REaper and music production in general. Any one got tips to kick this off so that I may actually also be able to make something? MAybe some good tutorials,....
Hi
I would like to know if there is a quick way to save a project with the current items material on each track, and not save/recopy the whole original file ? (as the option when saving : copy all media into project directory)
Like you record 15min on 6tracks and only edit 2 sections of 10 sec. Yes a render of the time selection do give that output, but if i want to keep those 10sec of 6 tracks, as original audio and not the whole recording made. Is there a way to do that ?
Better than saving manually each track and then re-importing those and re-applying all the fx...
Thanks for hints..

title edit: not *delayed*, rushed/out of time rather
I feel like I'm going a bit crazy on this song I'm working on. I can have a slight tendency to rush my guitar playing but I have never re-recorded the guitar so many times on a song before.
I always find my takes to be slightly out of time no matter how much I record.
It could be that I've developed insanely high standards for myself and the timing isn't that bad.
But I'm starting to suspect something fishy is going on. I recently found out about "preserve PDC delayed" and I'm unsure if I should have it off or on?
I record with no audible delay, through direct monitoring in Reaper (focusrite interface)

In the second image, the result would end up looking like that.
My workflow would be: click the item, hold down whatever keys, drag the volume level down and instantly have endpoints for that item (or region)
I feeeeel like ProTools could do this back in the day, since it's something I kind of keep trying to attempt. Maybe there needs to be a setting changed.
I've tried all the mixtures of cmd opt ctrl shift keys and at least two of them pop up a small window that says "move envelop section ignoring time selection" which tells me there must be a setting somewhere to change that :) yay if so!
edit to add (forgot) MacOS, v7.58

Hi, I'm switching to Reaper from Pro Tools (Mac) for the games part of my work. Was super excited about subprojects, but here's the problem:
No matter how I create a subproject, Reaper dumps everything from that subproject into the parents audio folder. If I create a project first, put it neatly into parentproject/subprojects and then import it from there Reaper will still copy the rpp and folder structure and put it into the parent audio folder.
For some reason a couple of times it worked, everything stayed in the subprojects seperate location, even the rpp-prox was created there, but I have no Idea what I did diferently.
I can't believe, that this is how it is done, will this not result in a gigantic mess?

Is it possible to change the size or appearance of automation points? I often find myself struggling to locate points in an automation lane, causing me to feel like I spend more time looking for the points than actually changing them. Basically id like them to be more distinct from the automation lane line.

I’m planning many more features, including OMF conversion and Pro Tools session import with effects, sends, and routing preserved as much as possible. Unfortunately, limited resources for cloud services and processing slow down development. Any support would help me bring these features to life faster!

I need help getting the numa player plugin to show up to use in Reaper. I downloaded the Numa Player 2 plugin for Windows through the studiologic website and installed it and put it in the same folder as the other plugin I use for Reaper. The other plugin shows up just fine in Reaper but Numa will not show up as a plugin for some reason. I noticed that the other plugin I have (Sitala) is just one file and Numa Player shows up as a folder so maybe thats what's wrong but I don't know what to do to fix it. Help would be greatly appreciated!
