Did something change with playback because I used to playback all 4k dv HDR Remux and they had True-hd 7.1 and it was just converting it to opus which is fine. Not sure why its not working all of a sudden. I do have a Rclone mount to plex that plays the files on my shield and computer fine so it has to be something with the app,

I run a server with a 5800x3d and a 2070 super. (Old hardware I had)

My goal is to run 100% of my streams off the GPU.
The issue I’m running into is that if there is anything the server doesn’t like it will push it to the cpu and crash my server.

Anyone try building a plex server like this, if so do you have any advice?

Direct play is completely broken, the video stutters with ASS subtitles enabled no matter the file. You have to transcode to have a normal viewing experience with ASS subtitles enabled.

It worked perfectly before the new update.

Have they said they plan to fix it?

I updated the app on my nvidia shield last week and it looks really nice and all, but the photos aren’t there. The old app could view the photos folders that I have set up. The server still shows them, but not on the TV app. Can I get them back?

Can we fix it? Properly calculate the video bounding box and resize matrix? Hide the player controls when in pip mode? Android, Pixel 8 Pro

When I woke up early this morning my DAS which contains all my media was clanking and clacking unusually and I figured plex was working on updating stuff which it does between 2 and 5 am. So I went to the dashboard to see what it was up to but I got an error saying that the server doesn't exist and my login credentials are not recognized.

I turned on my TV and it plays from the server.

With all the discussions about the hacks lately I hesitate to reset my password and/or reinstall. Do you think I should just go ahead and reinstall and reclaim the server? I was up to date on the software but I'm still nervous I was hacked and the noise from the HDDs was nefarious somehow and definitely concerned about the account not being recognized when I was logged in last night...

I checked on my server that I am running on Windows 11 this morning and the PMS will not boot up. It says:

When I tell you I am not tech savvy, I mean it... Getting this thing up and running was a case of a blind squirrel finding a nut and I have only done system updates to PMS and Windows since then.

Can anyone tell me if reinstalling would be safe?

Tldr im an idiot, package manager was broken and I didnt realize, got pwned, plex running on windows, immediately shut it down and isolated, found exploit in logs. Created an isolated network segment, shut down all services on the box that would have expected network traffic, enabled internet access on box for 2 minutes, box reached out to over a dozen c2 servers in a dozen countries instantly.

Rebuilding from metal now, oh happy days.

::EDIT:: so the Plex2Shell.py on the main page there IS the exploit itself! So NOT a false positive. The actual hunt script apparently lives in the /detection/hunt subfolders. A million thanks to PrettyCoolBear for alerting me to that.

My antivirus pinged it immediately as a trojan. I uploaded it to VirusTotal and Avast, Avira (the one i use), Cynet, AVG and WithSecure all report it as a trojan. So only 5 of the 60.

I assume this is a false positive, but anyone know how to tell for sure?

How does Jelly/Emby/Infuse compare to Plex if I am NOT using the remote network connection? Everything I read here says Plex has a huge advantage to the others because of the ease of remote connectivity .... but if I don't use that???

Just thought I’d voice my concerns about Plex as someone who has seen this before from other companies that once offered lifetime passes…

With the most recent updates being as bad as they are, as well as layoffs happening within their company, Plex looks eerily similar to other companies that drove themselves under and eventually restructured under a different name in order to break user lifetime pass agreements in favor of an all subscription based platform and changing to a different business model.

Just saying… I think this is a controlled burn (As in they’re purposely tanking their existing platform) and everyone who paid for lifetime passes should be watching this closely.

I can’t imagine anyone investing in the lifetime passes right now, but I would advise anyone here from Google, or who is somehow just now finding out about Plex to not sink any money into it, subscription or lifetime pass.

I've had numerous pieces of media get deleted from my Plex server and hard drives, and Plex (and the arr stack) doesn't tell me that they're missing. It's hard to keep track of manually, and I routinely go "I KNOW I had that on there, where did it go??". Is there anything I can do to create a baseline of media that WAS on the server a month ago, but no longer is due to whatever reason?

Unraid 7.3.2, 32GB RAM, Plex in a Docker container

Lately, I've been getting daily out of memory(OOM) errors in my logs and they say the Plex Transcoder is the culprit.

So far, I've tried this:

- Stopped DLNA
- Limited memory to 4GB with --memory=4g (now trying 8GB)
- Turned off Generate intro video markers (now trying with "Generate credits video markers", "Analyze audio tracks for loudness", and "Generate intro video markers" set to never)
- Using RAM for cache via --mount type=tmpfs,destination=/tmp,tmpfs-size=4000000000 --no-healthcheck (I've used this for years. It was 16GB previously, but now it's 4GB)

There was an update to Plex today so I updated it. As shown above, I set a few other things to off so we'll see what happens.

Any other ideas?

Help. I’m 1500 miles from my server. I can stream my iOS PlexAmp no problem.
Thankfully I can at least access my music.
But when I try streaming movies from the iOS Plex app, I’m showing that my server is currently unavailable.
I’ve tried accessing it through WiFi and through cellular networks.
My server is running on a Win11 machine. Plex server is running the latest version. Prior to leaving for this trip I triple checked
that my server was accessible remotely. Ports are configured per Plex instructions.
I know I’m sol till I get back home. Any advice is welcome, comments on switching to Linux, though well intentioned is a no go.

Is there a way to export the artwork that is currently used for all items in Plex and have it plopped as a file next to each item on the HDD?

As I've gone along, I've customized it, but usually just by selecting from the available options in Plex, so when trying out Jellyfin, etc. none of that transfers.

If I could have something automatically save that as external art, I'd love it.

If I make a list called shows (ie to split my watch list into one for shows and one for movies). Will it notify me if that show becomes available from either a friends server, mine or my services?

Roku has clearly been the flagship all along... Granted. It is with any streaming service... The Roku user base is just that large

I have an aged Roku tv in the bedroom that got the upgrade some time ago. And that 2018 Roku TV Plex app works waaaay better than my 2025 Google TV streamer that just got the upgrade (slow as molasses and the one-button player is gross, pause to play, play to pause, iykyk).

I switched to the Google TV streamer a year ago because the (new tv) Vizio Plex app is just dogshit... But now that's the Google TV app and I'm thinking just go Roku. I have zero confidence in the Google TV Plex development cycle.

Seriously, the latest UI update is far more mature on Roku. Honest recommendation.

I setup a second Plex server a while ago, and I'm planning on decomming the original one once I get the new one fully up and updated. The reason is because the original is running on my 10-year old NAS, so performance isn't great. Both are still using the NAS's storage as their content source though, so keeping both going indefinitely isn't needed.

However, the one thing that's still bugging me is the content sync. I have Settings Sync enabled, so watch status is sync'd, but the new server is showing all of this old content as being newly added. Which makes sense, because it is. But I was hoping Settings Sync would sync up that info as well, although obviously it's not. Does anyone know of another way to get that info sync'd? It's annoying looking at my home screen trying to find stuff I just added, only to see content from years ago filling up the "Recently Added" list instead.
