Issue: This is an issue where I am trying to add a second voice remote (not Pro) to an existing Roku and have it act appropriately. I have an IR/RF remote tester that tells me the remotes work. They are all emitting an RF signal with each button press.
I have 6 Roku streaming sticks of various ages. One of them (probably 4-5 years old) has two remotes and they both function flawlessly (bedroom). All the others except one (the one I am about to detail) have a single remote and work just fine.
OK, Now onto the problem child. The issue I am having involves adding a second remote (living room). It pairs fine. The issues are:
It sometimes freezes. None of the buttons work except the TV volume & power. The resolution is to take the batteries out for 5 seconds and reinsert them. The remote comes alive.
Sometimes it takes a press or two of a button to get it to respond. Almost as if to "wake it up. If I am lucky it will continue to work for a few hours. Sometimes the Roku never responds.
This most recent Roku is a brand new 3830RW purchased a month ago. It came with a remote. I added this remote as a second remote and it acted up as above. I have a different remote paired with now that works flawlessly (RC1002). I am not allowed to remove this remote from the system or I will be homeless (wife). I had another Roku (3820) from September of 2025. I was only able to test it with a few remotes as I quite quickly figured with 3-4 remotes acting up, it might have been the Roku itself (hence my current, new one from a month ago).
I have tried several remotes both older and brand new and have similar results. I have tried several methods of pairing them. Trying various combinations of reboots, power cycling, deleting, rebooting, re-pairing etc. Nothing seems to work.
I was in a chat yesterday with Roku support for several hours. I started with the BOT, then got secondary support, then third level. Ultimate conclusion on their part was faulty remote hardware. Recommended returning it to Amazon.
Not so fast. As I mentioned above, I have tried adding several remotes (all voice remotes none Pro) as second remotes and they ALL have had issues. I got so pissed yesterday, that I ordered 5 remotes from Amazon. I was going to go through all of them today to see if I could get ONE to work as a second remote. I have only got through one so far, and it is acting the same. I'd prefer to not go through all 5 at this time. The issue is clearly not the remotes themselves, but why does one work?
One thing I'll add: When I initially paired the working remote with the new, current Roku (3830RW), and went through the TV volume & power setup, it paired with the TV on try #1. Music stopped). On all of the other remotes I tried, none would pair on try #1, They ALL paired on try #5.
Yes, it's confusing. The long and short of the issue is that I can not seem to get two remotes to function properly on two different Roku streaming sticks with this TV (Samsung QN65S95DAFX. Yet, I can get one remote to work on both streaming sticks with this TV.
I am open to any thoughts or suggestions.
Thanks.
