As detailed earlier this month, you can now choose characters from the Apple TV catalog as profile pictures for local Apple TV profiles.

Apple’s server endpoint is now serving profile pictures of characters from The Snoopy Show, Frog and Toad, and Stillwater.

The change is rolling out across all platforms that support local Apple TV profiles, including iOS and iPadOS.

When using AirPlay to play a video from an iPhone or iPad to an Apple TV, if I pause the playback, the AirPlay will disconnect exactly 8 minutes later.

Is there any way to turn that off?

If I pause a video, I still want it to stay connected so that if I come back 30 or 60 minutes later and hit play on the tv remote, it should resume playback. Is this possible?

When choosing “update software” in settings, it says 27.0 is available gives the option to download and install. However, it doesn’t get any further beyond this point. The progress bar never shows any progress at all. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have used a Photos album that contains about 2000 photos selected for my screensaver. It seems to cache a very small number of those photos and play them over and over again. Sometimes as few as 4 and sometimes maybe 20.

In tvOS 27 is not better than 26. It is such a fun feature when family and friends are over but never quite lives up to its potential.

Anyone use this feature successfully? My AppleTV is 4k 2nd gen.

They should have kept a lower cost, weaker processor, no mics, less add on version of the Apple TV 4k 128gb 3rd gen around. Maybe call it the AppleTV Classic or something.

Clearly, there remains a demand for it. Minus AI and minus the mics. I would have been happy with a dumb plastic remote with it too. Very happy. Maybe even just IR!

But I need the ethernet. It is just better than wi-fi.

As announced in the Apple TV 4K press release, tvOS 27.2 allows you to shuffle through available Screen Savers throughout the day.

You can also set up Memories & Slideshows or Portraits screen savers on iPhone or iPad without sharing your whole library.

You’ll get new audio controls when you set up four HomePods with the new Apple TV.

Speaker Mode: Surround Sound or Whole Room Audio.

Specifically for Surround Sound: * Spatialize Stereo: Control whether to play a spatially processed mix for video and music. As reported in September, when disabled, normal stereo plays on the front speakers, while rear speakers receive an empty mix. Defaults to On for Video and Music. * Surround Level: Adjust the rear pair relative to the fronts. Supports −8 dB through +8 dB, in 0.5 dB steps. Defaults to Normal (0 db).

There are no audio options for Whole Room Audio, as it uses stereo channels for both speaker pairs. The channels are assigned diagonally: front-left and rear-right share the left channel, while front-right and rear-left share the right channel.

With all the new articles and video on how people are using claude to remove bloatware and ads from android TVs ? I'm wondering if i should shelve my Apple TV box and get an android box or upgrade my TV to and newer android TV ? Though i like the infuse interface, Kodi still does the job and i get audio passthrough doing this.
Just a train of thought i had and wanted to understand if I'm missing on considering any other trade offs ?

With the latest TV OS software for the 4K 3rd Gen. You can no longer access or use the Photos/Folder in Home Sharing Photo library on your Mac for the screen saver. Instead you can only choose the ones in iCloud Photos, which severely limits the amount of photos displayed whenever it kicks in. Probably a dozen or so photos at a time. With previous TV OS version, you can link it directly to your photo library in Home Sharing on the Mac and can display hundreds and hundreds of photos in that folder. Which sucks that Apple made a bonehead decision here!

Hi all! I made some changes to my 3D flight tracking app (including renaming it - it's called Yonder now). I posted about it last time and it was well liked so I wanted to share again.

It shows you live air traffic at airports nearby, and now lets you follow specific aircraft in cinematic mode (with a flight deck, over-wing view, and GTA style camera following).

I am very excited to introduce Lumen, a marquee Plex client for tvOS. Lumen has been a total labor of love and necessity. Born out of just not being able to find the right tvOS app for me, I am hoping to find a community of like-minded Plex users to help me build the tvOS app for Plex power users.

So what is Lumen?

• A Plex experience that feels native to the platform, like skip-back subtitles, picture-in-picture, and Liquid Glass
• A playback experience that can handle the basic to the advanced – feel free to throw that Lawrence of Arabia remux at it, Lumen can play it
• Plex features available in no other third-party tvOS app, like pre-rolls, theme music, and profiles

The playback experience has been the number one priority, meaning the UI has taken a backseat. I am working through a multitude of UI quirks and I imagine the majority of feedback will be based there. That said, it's far from ugly. My family has used the app for weeks when it was far worse on the eyes.

Let's talk pricing.

Lumen will never use a subscription model. The likely model will be some sort of free trial with a one-time unlock in-app purchase. I'm waffling on the price now and will likely discuss this in Discord (details below). I view Lumen's development as a lot of upfront work with some yearly upkeep when new tvOS versions come out.

I had absolutely no idea that "one Home Screen" was default, and deleted an app on the family TV that I use on my bedroom tv -- now it's nuked both places. That's a horrible default without some kind of warning to tell you "are you sure you want to delete this everywhere?" *sigh*. Apple, come on man.

I’m the developer of Tuno TV, an M3U player for Apple TV, iPhone, and iPad. I’m looking for feedback from this community to help decide what to improve next.

I started building Tuno because I wanted a player built around Apple’s native frameworks, with familiar navigation, native playback, and playlist and favorites sync across my devices. Core playback is free; custom categories and cross-device sync are optional Premium features.

For those who’ve tried other IPTV players:

• What do they get right?
• What frustrates you: Remote navigation, large playlists, guide loading, playback controls, or something else?
• What’s one feature or improvement you wish someone would prioritize?

You don’t need to download Tuno to contribute. I’m interested in your experience with whichever player you use, including the small annoyances you’ve learned to live with. I’ve left out the download link because I’d like this discussion to focus on feedback.

I know there are already plenty of IPTV players, and everyone has their favorite. I’m not suggesting Tuno needs to replace yours. Having options gives developers room to try different approaches, and I’d like to understand where mine could be useful.

3rd Generation found at Walmart. They didn't have them on the shelves. Had to ask the employee if they had any and hiding behind the register locked up were 2 - 64gb & about 4 - 128gb.

Is Apple going to start using the AV1 codec in the Apple movie store or on the Apple TV streaming service? If so would it actually noticeably improve the picture quality? If it would I would upgrade to the new 4th Gen. Don’t really care about both the 4 HomePod surround or the new chip unless the chip can somehow improve picture quality.

Just for anyone who isn’t aware and is having trouble with their Apple TV ESPN app triggering HDR content when it should, the Disney+ app seems to correctly output ESPN’s HDR content.

Prices are crazy. This is “clearance”…

I feel like closed captioning turns itself on sometimes I open an app. Anybody else see this? I don’t want it on.

I posted previously about an issue I’m having with my Apple TV 4K and I asked in relation specifically to the new Apple TV. But it seems like maybe there is a solution for my current Apple TV and I was hoping someone here could help.

I'm using a Sony VPL-VW325ES projector. The Apple TV goes into a Denon AVR-X6700H and that goes to the projector.

With any other device plugged into my Denon my picture is perfect. But the Apple Tav gives me green, blotchy areas when the picture goes dark, as shown in these pictures.

The Apple TV only has Chroma settings 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 and I’ve tried both and get the same problem.

Anyone know what I can do to improve the picture?
