I was just talking about this with my mom [earliest Gen X if that matters], and we both basically agreed that we don’t want people to have unfettered access to us anymore. She retired a few years ago and just lost all remaining patience for other people’s bullshit, and I’ve been working in customer service for much of my adult life, so… yeah, there are like maybe 3 people who can contact me at all times. One of them birthed me, one married me, and the other is my best friend. Everyone else more or less gets me when they get me.

Working in customer service probably skyrocketed you to your mom's level of "no fucks to give anymore". Absolutely brutal industry.

It really is. I found a niche in an industry I really enjoy now, so I’m much happier than I had been prior, but people are still people no matter where they are. For better or worse 😅

Yeah, I fled the call center at my current job as soon as I could when they put in a workforce management run by a finance bitch who never did customer service.

While the call center had been stressful from dealing with people, it was a largely pretty chill place management wise. Then the bitch rolled in and the stress magnified a thousandfold. Once I was gone, most of the other teamleads left in a few months, a year later most of the supervisors had moved on to other positions.

They kept bleeding people until they put new people in charge of the workforce shit because everyone kept pointing to that being the biggest reason why they were leaving.

We're a supplemental insurance company, most of our calls are not going to be less than 5 minutes. You could have the nicest caller possible, but if they want to understand all 20-30 benefits on their cancer policy, that call is going to take at least a half hour. Even longer if they have other coverage they have questions on.

Gods forbid you're on an escalated call with someone screaming at you because something didn't get paid and you get that fucking IM asking why are you on that call for so long.
