I wanted to share my experience in case it helps someone else.
I bought a BENTOBEN case for my Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold (2024) from a seller called UUFun on Amazon Australia. The listing says it's designed for this phone. It's the one-piece style with the back and front covers joined by a small plastic connector, unlike most Pixel Fold cases, which are fitted to each half separately.
The only instruction in the package was a small note to peel off the protective films before application. There was nothing about fitting it with the phone folded or unfolded, and no warning about the inner screen.
I cleaned the phone with a cloth lightly dampened with a weak water/alcohol solution, fitted the case with the phone folded, and then opened the phone for the first time since. There was an aqua blue line at the top left of the inner screen and a black patch that got bigger every time I opened it. An authorised Google repair centre quoted $1,499 for an inner screen replacement, and it isn't covered by Google's warranty.
The seller/manufacturer say I installed it incorrectly, but haven't said what I did wrong. They sent two different installation videos (one folded, one unfolded), confirmed there's no single correct method, and acknowledged there were no printed instructions. They refunded the case price but refuse to cover the repair. Amazon said it can't help with property damage claims.
I can't prove the case caused the damage, and I don't have a before photo of the screen, but it appeared immediately after fitting. If you're thinking of buying this style of case for a foldable:
- Photograph and film the inner screen before you start, and film yourself fitting the case.
- Fit it slowly, and stop if anything resists.
- Check what recourse you'd have before you buy, because the seller may refuse and Amazon may not help.
Has anyone else had a similar problem with this case or with one-piece cases on a Fold?
