Kitchen Suggestions for cleaning this stove hood fan (range hood)? Blessed to have a self-cleaning hood that flushes grease from plenums already.

I cook five to six days a week and the fan has reached this point. Is this something that I can tackle myself?

That looks like a pretty serious buildup of grease mixed with dust. Cooking 5-6 days a week will definitely do that over time lol.

I'd be careful trying to clean that yourself though. That's the actual blower wheel, and getting too much water or degreaser inside could damage the motor or electrical components.

If the manufacturer says the blower wheel can be removed, you might be able to clean it separately with a degreaser thats safe for the material and a soft brush. Just make sure the power is disconnected first.

Since you mentioned it's a self-cleaning hood, I'd also check the manual because those systems dont necessarily clean the blower itself.

Personally, with that much buildup I'd probably have a range hood technician take a look. Especially if the wheel isn't easily removable. Better than accidentally damaging an expensive motor trying to save a few bucks.

disassemble, clean, re-assemble.
