Politics Poll Worker Jobs

At the request of another poster, I’m just here to talk about being a poll worker. I’m original from a very small town where there is not a lot of work and the population is aging. One source of work that has become a good source of income for my OG back home was becoming a Poll Worker.

She’s retired and has a lot of time but even if you aren’t retired it’s still possible to work a few days or evening shifts for a few hours, especially if you need some extra coin.

I currently live in a big ass city with plenty of polling places and I don’t need the extra coin so I have not applied BUT I highly recommend it for those that can/do have a few hours to give.

My Aunt is 1 of like 4 black poll workers in a GOP mainstay in Texas. Over the year, she’s learned a lot about the voting habits and attitudes of the people that live in our hometown, likewise, she’s been able to make some pretty good money because there’s a shortage of workers in our hometown.

To apply, try looking at your city’s government website. That’s where our applications, requirements, and expectations can be found. During election seasons, my aunt pulls in a few thousand because she’s able to work pretty much everyday from the start of early elections to the final day.

If you or someone you know has the time and needs the extra cash, I highly recommend it.

Discussion The inclusion of biracial people

Just saw this on Tik Tok and it basically sums up why I’ve always disliked the “so they’re not Black enough” argument whenever I bring up dark skinned characters being played by non-dark skinned people.

Storm being the most notable, but apparently, they’re looking at Teyana Taylor for live action Vixen. I LOVE Teyana as an actor, and I wouldn’t care if she were Vixen, but I’m not going to pretend to love it.

Just like I didn’t care that Aaron is John Stewart, even though it’s not accurate. I love both of them as actors, but I want to see dark skinned characters portrayed as… dark skinned 🧍🏾‍♀️

And though the video is talking more so about real life, it applies there too. You’ll rarely see dark skinned women on the face of makeup promos and whatnot, and a lot of companies don’t cater to brown / dark skinned women (again, like makeup).

It’s really disappointing and annoying bc again again again, any time you try to bring this up, you just get “so they’re not Black enough” or “this is colorism” or or or. It’s exhausting.

Like the video says, I love MOST of those actors (never heard of some or just haven’t seen them), but I’m getting to a point where I dislike watching anything bc I can usually spot what’s going to happen.

White guy in a relationship with a Black woman? She’s either going to be light skinned, mixed, racially ambiguous, or biracial. If she’s dark skinned, she’s going to be the disposable trope (but it will also happen with biracials/etc Black women).

Black woman in general? Probably going to be disposable.

Black female friend? She’s going to be aggressive, loud, and the blunt one out of the friend group.

Dark skinned Black woman? She’ll be replaced by a light skin, biracial, mixed, etc.

Dark skinned Black man? Same thing; whitewashed or replaced by a light skin, mixed, biracial, etc. Doesn’t happen as frequently though.

Black older woman? They’re going to use the mammy stereotype.

It’s just so easy to spy the trope before it happens.

EDIT: Teyana and Aaron are not biracial/etc; I put them on here bc of colorism, guys 🤣 Ik they’re fully Black lol.

Politics Why black voters are voting north of 90% Democratic again: To keep the Republicans from doing further damages to black lives

Post image
• Upvotes

There is no need for further debate on which party handles our top concerns better. Black voters get it. Black people have always got fukd over when they let the Republicans run things since Reagan.

Mark my words: Every demo (of every race) is swinging towards Democratic in this cycle. I see that on the ground as I canvass. We will see the magnitudes in the exit polls by election night.

We should have NEVER let him into our house, y'all. He's still friends with that racist MAGA supporter, Kid Rock, to this day! You remember that anti-Trump rant he went on years ago? He was STILL friends with Kid Rock, even back then!

Remember when he made fun of Meg The Stallion getting shot by Tory Lanez?

Remember when he made that racist rap song about black women just because he got dumped by a black girl?

Remember all the times he said the N-word during his concerts?

Y'all ever seen this video?

It's time to wake up and stop giving him a pass!

Politics Black voters are driving the early voting surge in the South because they won’t be silenced. After the SCOTUS Callias decision, Republicans wasted no time gerrymandering to weaken Black voting power. Now some of those safe red districts are shifting left & looking a lot more competitive. Oops.

Politics DL Hughley is correct that Trump is white America’s “payback” for the Obama era.

DL Hugley nails it correctly as always! Trump is America’s “payback” for having the audacity to elect Obama twice as the President of the United States. We are still living in the backlash towards the Obama era.

Politics Trump's second term is more racist than ever

Post image

Trump has a long track record of racist rhetoric, but I was curious how that plays out in refugee admissions data. Shockingly, since Trump took office, he’s effectively shut our doors to all refugee origin countries but one: South Africa, specifically Afrikaners. On the whole, not only do they have a relatively weak case for refugee status, they're also predominantly white…..
