News Airline passenger cries for 3 hours straight because another woman wouldn't give up her seat
Bravo to this sister for standing her ground. I'm sure the WW's husband was grateful too.

I KNEW IT middle seat asking the aisle seat to swap for a MIDDLE seat? Bitch fuck no. Book your shit in advance and/or pay the extra to pick your seat. “I just miss my husband” for a 10-hour flight…bitch how the fuck do you work a day job with this toddler separation anxiety

u/Making2025 8h ago
My money is on the husband did book their seating: her up here, him back there, and each with middle seats so people are less apt to trade. “Sorry, honey! The airline messed up our seats again!”

I had an airline bump my wife and I from our seats (that we paid extra for) and put us not next to each other. It was because a family booked their kids not next to them and didn’t pay extra to be together. Seems totally fair but even after complaining I couldn’t get the money back that we paid to pick our seats.
I didn’t cry the whole time though lol→ More replies (3)22
u/cockaptain 2h ago
Yeah, no... that's a write to corporate and blast them on social media until they respond type thing.
You can't pay extra for them to withdraw the service you paid for and then have them keep that money. You essentially paid to subsidize a stranger's kids' tickets. Just, no.

I believe it. My grandfather pretended to be deaf the last few years of his life so he didn't have to talk to my grandmother.
My grandmother maybe possibly be one of the most evil people to walk the earth. So we all acted like my grandfather was deaf when she was around.

I was getting on a connecting flight once when i saw my brother waiting to board. We ended up in the same row. He was on the left aisle seat. I was in the right middle. There was one dude between up, right aisle seat.
We asked him to swap with my brother. Aisle for an aisle, just switch sides.
He said no. 🤣
Sometimes you dont get what you want. 🤷🏾♀️

Maybe I'm weird, but I prefer to lean to my left. So when I book a window seat it's on the left side of the plane so I can lean on the wall, and an aisle will be the right side so I can lean on the armrest. I could see someone declining to swap out of their selected spot.
9
u/Sirnacane 3h ago
Or you want a specific aisle seat because you have a bad knee and want to stretch it out sometimes.

My husband and I are almost never sat beside eachother on flights. It is absolutely not a big deal. This woman is so codependent.
28
u/FlobyToberson85 7h ago
I don't ever want to sit in a middle seat and neither does my husband. We both prefer window seats so we usually just pick those in two consecutive rows. We're spending our whole damn lives together. I don't need to see him on the flight. It's a few hours of just quietly reading, watching a movie, or taking a nap.
→ More replies (2)41
u/THEhot_pocket 6h ago
My wife wants to sit by me 100% of the time, so we do what any reasonable person does... and pays the extra so we are sitting next to eachother.
Price of being married I guess. This lady should have at minimum offered 100$. Seat swaps are you get the SHITTIER seat, or you pay money. You dont get upgraded for free, thats bullshit

This happened to me once. Guy in the middle seat asked for my aisle seat because his friend was in the aisle seat across from me. I obviously said no. Flight takes off and it turns out the middle seat next to his friend was open. The guy didn’t move to that middle seat to sit with his friend though. Funny how that works.

Another option would be to pay the person you are asking to swap with. It would probably cost more money than booking them together originally, but it is an option she could have tried. Instead she just thought she could guilt trip and annoy her way into the seat.
Also, even if the woman had swapped with her she still wouldn't have been next to her husband, just a couple of feet closer. Almost certainly she just wanted an aisle seat and it had nothing to do with her husband.

Probably the most restful sleep he’s had in years.

White women especially have a cultural acceptance of infantilization that’s very disturbing.
It’s why white men feel the need to be the knight to save them, and white women overwhelmingly use tears as a social lubricant for violence.
Emmett till is a perfect example of this phenomenon.

Oh this is why they sell noise cancelling headphones for crying babies and crying adults. LOL.
Why do people do this? I never understand. If you want to sit with someone, book seats together.
She thought, "Oh, I will book this because don't worry babe, someone will switch seats with me." To her surprise. She thought her tears would win her a seat but now she is a global meme. Is it worth it? For what? Everything is recorded these days. EVERYTHING!!
How embarsassing if you have a job and now they talk about you, mock you.
63
u/CosmoKing2 7h ago
We constantly get this from Snowbirds on flights to Florida. They book the cheapest seats (usually two middle seats in separate rows) and ask us if we will switch our Comfort + seats so they can be together. And get into a huff when we decline or ask them to pay us the difference. We call it the elder entitlement disease.

They both had middle seats, so finding anyone to switch was a big ask. If this was so gotdang important to her, I can’t figure out why she just wouldn’t fork over the few extra dollars for seats right next to each other. Seat choices get more expensive as it gets closer to the day of the flight. If she started planning early, it literally would have been a few extra dollars.

Especially with a 10 hour flight. It was likely a flight to or from the US - Europe and from my experience paying to pick your seat seems to run about $40-100 extra per seat. I always just pay it because my wife would prefer that then chancing it like this couple did.
15
u/TheOriginalKrampus 5h ago
Definitely. I was flying back home a few months ago with my cat. Airline required me to have a window seat when flying with a cat. But this entitled family of 3 had their little snot-nosed kid sitting in my seat. A classic power move because they must have seen that that seat was booked, and they just hoped that I would give up my seat when it was time to sit down.
Which was fucking ridiculous because they were in the aisle and middle row, and their son was seated in the opposite aisle seat. So they were basically all seated together.
Flight attendant intervened. But instead of forcing the kid to move back to his own seat, they made me switch with the opposite window seat, and asked the guy in the window seat if he would take the kid's aisle seat. The guy was flying alone and he agreed, likely because it was a flight attendant asking. I felt bad for him. It was only a 2 hour flight, but I bet he was really looking forward to having a window seat.
Like, it's one thing to politely ask someone if they are willing to switch seats to accommodate you. It's something else entirely to sit in their seat and ask them to sit somewhere else. Or to throw a tantrum like this woman did.

when you buy tickets together, they’ll usually put you together unless her husband purposely changed the seat or they bought their tickets so last minute that they were only a few seats and they were not together. Although a lot of people when they buy economy seats, they don’t get to assign their seats until the day of the flight were they will get a random seat selected so I really do think the husband just chose separate seats so he could sleep better lol

Okay so black people, especially black women, seem to occupy this dual space. They are simulateously the "worst people", yet somehow are self-sacrificial mammies who should be expected to prioritize any non black person over their own comfort or quality of life at any given time.
Folks get so fabberglasted that a black woman would say "no." And then they go into the weirdest histrionics.
It feels like its a hold over from those Jim Crow dynamics.

u/jimmyjammyjayso 5h ago
I’m an Irish guy (like born, raised and living here) and have to say the time I spent living in nyc, black people, especially women were so damn helpful and approachable. So for the US to have the mindset that they’re the ‘worst people’ is nuts to me.
I will say though, that woman crying on the plane fits the stereotype here of a ‘typical yank’ and how a lot of Irish people perceive people from the states. I don’t think I’ve ever had that thought about an individual American who wasn’t white 🤷♂️

I'm thinking about my in-laws. My MIL raised her kids (now in their 30s) by 'protecting' them from any adversity, and I mean anything. Hurt yourself running in the house? It was the floor's fault. No joke. And now, they literally can't emotionally cope with ANYTHING. Like no matter what emotion they're feeling, they cry. They're also both unemployable college graduates. Neither can handle working a full-time job. They both live with their mom. All this is to say, it may not be performative - this person is WILDLY unable to emotionally cope. It's pathetic.

Even with an additional cash offer, getting someone to willingly accept a middle seat on a 10-hr flight is going to be a tough sell.

I am going to need four figures for this. I can barely do the isle in coach on a long flight. A middle seat, I'd probably just skip the trip.

Exactly, an aisle seat is worth more than a middle seat on a 10-hour flight. Expecting someone to take a lower value than what they are giving you (a complete stranger) is ridiculous.

I am disabled, travel with a wheelchair and generally always with my husband. Though, have traveled by train alone. I can’t imagine behaving like THIS, the codependency is strong. So glad this woman didn’t give up her seat but what a terrible flight!!! What has happened to people in general? Just no sense.

The end of the video had me dying - "The woman's husband who was two rows up slept peacefully for most of the trip"
Sounds like she did this mf a favor by refusing to switch.

She sat there crying and her husband did nothing but sleep. I know the Flight Attendants were mad mad that flight! 😂

Those tears used to get us beaten and later on sacked from jobs. So glad to live in a time where they are completely ignored.
Her husband probably had the best sleep he's had in years.

This happened to me on an international flight. Asked to move to accommodate an old lady.
I tried to help but when I got to where she said her seat was, someone was already sitting in it.
Once the Flight Attendant figured out what was going on, she put us all back to our assigned seats.
I think it's some kind of protocol thing. They need to know who was sitting where in the event something happens.
Gotta feel for this woman, having to sit next to that stinky shit of a human being for hours on end.

The most Caucasious story I have ever watched in my life.
Adding it to my collection of stories labelled "white privilege".

What about the man to the left of her? She couldn’t ask him?? She expected a black woman to fulfill her request? I hope she learned her lesson. Leave black people alone!

Expecting black women to fill requests is regrettably white American culture.
I’d never expect a single person to do me a favor. She learned no lesson. If she came with grace and asked kindly, I’m sure she would gain some traction. I can tell that she did not.
Weeping because your equal denied your request in this scenario… it does nothing.
She didn’t deny her because she was white. She denied her because.. grownups who buy their own tickets are adults.
An actual child weeping over this would be ridiculous and a lesson to be learned. But here we are. “White woman upset by her own decisions.” Is news.

If you care this much, invest in reserving a seat ahead of time.
This is just a stranger asking you to give them money because it'd be slightly improve their quality of life for the next 10 hours.

I read the NYT article. IMO, it seems the crying woman wanting to sit next to her husband was a lie. Her husband was seated 2 rows up from her with head phones on asleep so changing seats with this woman wouldn’t be a fix. Why didn’t she ask the people seated next to her husband to switch? Seems the crying lady, who was seated in middle only wanted to change seats because she didn’t want to fly 10 hours in that seat. The other woman had an aisle seat. Crying for 3 hours is strange. Oddly, the woman who refused to give up her seat was flying home because her Dad had just passed away.

Pay for the seat you want. If you can't get the one you want tough shit. Crying for 3 hours in mental behavior.

Yeah as a fellow white woman I honestly don’t know how ppl put up with this shit. It’s so damn embarrassing. I’m glad she got called out.

Husband probably booked the flight that way on purpose. The video says they were on the way home.... meaning he had to be with her for the entire duration of their time away. Poor man needed a vacation after the vacation.

u/ryan13ts 6h ago
White woman plays the victim because she doesn’t get her way… Well that’s a story we’ve NEVER heard before. 🙄
If the roles had been reversed and that black woman had cried nonstop like that, they would have tried to have her thrown off the flight and arrested.

u/bluegardener 8h ago
The 20 percent calling the black woman rude are the type to raise entitled kids by caving to their every request to keep the peace. Often at the expense of other kids needs and desires.

I scored upgrades from a friend once and sat in business class on a 9 hour flight. There was a woman that had to be at least 55 that refused to sit down until someone switched with her so she could be next to her husband. Nobody did and the flight attendants nearly kicked her off the flight. I just don’t understand. You have unlimited free entertainment, food, and booze what do you need your husband for? Such bizarre behavior.
Moral of the story, if you want to sit together, plan accordingly, and if you can’t, suck it up, it’s not the end of the world and nobody cares.

u/Napalmeon 8h ago
I think we all know that she is definitely accustomed to getting her way by throwing tantrums.

u/Vast_District_2898 8h ago
She’s clearly not used to not getting her way and thought the tears would work in her favour. LOL!
