OOP gotta be singlehandedly keeping the sanseito (Japanese AfD, more or less) voterbase up. Desecrating the country your living in's flag is already pretty controversial, but having another country's flag right above it is a recipe to make everybody hate you.

That's kinda been their thing for a couple thousand years. But it's a bit more granular than "Japan is right forever."
Japan's far right has a combined 32 seats. Right and center right is 524 seats. Center left and left is 130 seats. Far left is 11. Independent is 14.
Takaichi won a landslide because CDP and Komeito fell apart, inflation, etc. But she also took an assertive stance towards China, immigration, etc. Plus she was the most likeable candidate.
Things tend to be move around between right and center, with center right being pretty common. DPJ (center left mostly) governed for a couple years. And then 3 bad PM's in 3 years. Plus Fukushima. And then they faced Shinzo Abe.
There's a wide range of parties. The center does get their act together and is influential. The left and far left has a more rocky past, although the Japanese Communist Party has pretty much always held a handful of seats.

u/SkyBoxLive 12h ago
What's your definition of Left wing vs Right Wing
Its very broad.
Whilist the CCP might be left leaning on many issues, it still has an Authoritarian government, that is systematically purging certain ethnic groups it deems extreme which many consider to be inherently right wing.
Using a line to describe something much more complex than a line, is asking for misunderstandings on a constant basis.
2
u/theHrayX 19 11h ago
Authoritarianism does not know whether it's right wing or left wing. Sure, many right wingers are authoritarian, but left wingers can be authoritarian as well. Revolutionary France, arguably the first left wing revolutionary state, was absolutely authoritarian and they invented the guillotine.
China uses some left-wing rhetoric to justify their horrible crimes. Like, they don't say it's a targeted persecution, like what Germany said when they were doing their thing under mr moustache. They use frames and their anti-counter-revolutionary behavior, re-education camps, anti-radicalization operations, using enough revolutionary leftist rhetoric, even if the policies are right-wing. But generally speaking, I consider the CCP to be left-wing in rhetoric at least.
1
u/Left-Carry-2670 11h ago
CCP is absolutely left-wing in rhetoric, but they’re more close to state capitalist. I wouldn’t class the CCP purely into left wing or right wing, because they take what they want and put it into their government, they have a similar number of left and right wing policies.

And now even the Palestinian diplomatic mission in Japan has publicly expressed its concerns and condemned this dude’s actions.
The Permanent Representative of Palestine to Japan strongly rejects and condemns any attempts to undermine the longstanding friendly relations and deep bonds between Palestine and Japan through the misuse of national symbols or the distortion of statements.
We Palestinians do not tolerate any acts of desecrating or inappropriately using the Japanese national flag, regardless of the form they take. Such actions do not represent the will of the Palestinian people or government, and this mission categorically rejects them.

They glaze China too when Xi and the CCP are pretty big Chinese nationalists and would probably be called fascist by them if they were a western country. I'm an Australian and I'm pretty left leaning but hate the idiotic culture war obsessed performative leftists like the guy. I'm not a China hater btw I've been there its a great country, just using it as an example.
I have no idea why leftists would hate Japan considering its an example of state driven development and social cohesion between classes with great healthcare, infrastructure, education and general quality of life. I always assumed progressives goals was to improve the lives of people but these people seem to care about stupid shit.
17
u/Lord_Corves 14h ago
the problem with Japan is it's kind of a political football pretty much between the conservatives and liberals. a lot of conservatives tout Japan as being a perfect example of a country that's fairly homogeneous and very conservative in its nature running very well all things considered.
for many people on the left there is a twofold issue on one part there are a lot of people who still see China as a communist government and therefore the same as they are if they are people who identify as communists.
the other thing is that Japan is well conservative in its nature it's a fairly homogeneous society with a big focus on monoculturalism to some extent. not to say there aren't any minority groups in Japan there are actually quite a few but societal and social cohesion are so important to their society that it's ingrained in each and every person who's born and raised in Japan you can look at the schools if your hair even if it's a natural color is a different color than the rest of the students they'll have you dye it.
when it comes to Japan there's definitely a lot of nuance to be seen there's a lot of things they get right and I would argue quite a few things they get wrong but people are so polarized.
7
u/TheDonIsGood1324 13h ago
Yea its stupid when conservatives act like Japanese homogeneity is the reason for success, lots of countries are and failed. Like I said I think if you actually look at economic policies Japan is a good example of state driven capitalism and its success, repeated in Taiwan, Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and China. I noticed One Nation in Australia trying to use Japan as an example of what they want when its their voter base who hates high taxes and government intervention the most lol, also anti-Japanese racism used to be really bad and Pauline defiantly contributed to it.
I think some people focus too much on social issues when it comes to politics when economics is by far the most important issue.
3
u/Fragasm 11h ago
I lived there for years and I can tell you a few things for certain:
1: there's basically zero crime, you can wander around anywhere at any time and always feel safe
2: it's clean everywhere
3: the food is incredible, and I mean all the way from a McDonald's to a top tier Michelin star restaurant -- the service and quality is amazing everywhere you go
4: most people seem depressed there
2
u/ShortToss202020 10h ago

3
7
u/OnlyDot5223 13h ago
They simply hate him because the ruling party is right-wing, and of course everything right-wing is bad. They probably don't know what policies they support, what they want for the future, or what their citizens want.
Literally, several of the comments I see here are from people who "fight against fascism" and "protect democracy," but literally find it wrong that a country (Japan) r I held the votes and then respect the democratic result.
2
u/NoxTempus 8h ago
I don't know who you're talking to?
I'm much further left than average, vote Greens above Labor, etc. and all my left wing mates love Japan. They've pretty much all been, are going, or want to go, and mostly just accept that there's a cultural gap.
1
u/TheDonIsGood1324 3h ago edited 3h ago
No I mean worldwide or at least internet. In Australia everyone loves Japan lol, or at least that’s my perception because I do learn Japanese
I think the internet is a hub for unreasonable people to congregate and doesn’t reflect the majority of people’s views. We seem to be living in a more radical world but Australia at least feels like a moderate place to be with reasonable people, at least that’s my impression.

What’s funny is that these people seem to hate Japan more than countries with severe human rights abuses or hardline theocracies that would arrest you the moment you dared to criticize their ideology or leaders.
It’s like the more a country tolerates their behavior and allows criticism, the more openly these people express their hatred toward it.

You’ve spoken the most despicable truth about this world. Global polls show that people in countries like China and North Korea are highly satisfied with and confident in their governments—even though they were locked down by their governments for three years during the pandemic.
Meanwhile, in countries that value freedom of speech and tolerance, people often take to the streets to protest, express hatred, or hurl insults at their own countries or governments.

She isn't racist... she's xenophobic, which sounds like a minor detail but changes a lot. Also, the Hitler thing happened in 2017 and was referring to the Great Depression, not what he did to minorities. The reason she came to power in the first place is because of Japan's financial issues since the 90s

That was damage control, LMFAO. The current Japanese government keeps minimizing the scale of "comfort women", numbers of deaths in Nanjing and Manila, the treatment and atrocities in Unit 731, Unit 516 and all the other Units, and keeps victimizing itself by blaming the "evil Allied forces" for ending the war.
Let's not even mention the disgusting objectifying and sexualization of women in anime and j-pop (it happens in the West too, I'm aware lol, but the scale and severity of it in Japan is staggering). Or shotacon and lolicon...
1
u/Ill-Prior-8429 5h ago
The US owes a lot in blood even and yet any time one of their politicians comes with the slightest bit lip service about their atrocities, that people comes out in droves about how "they don't apologize for America", so why don't we all go to their country and start treating them the same?
1
u/laix_ 4h ago
Also, japan is an extremely conservative country. But its the opposite way to america.
Whereas America is "FREEDOM fuck you i got mine, i don't need no gobberment" individualism, Japan is "if you dare post a negative review of a game company we will drive you to suicide" collectivism. Salarymen have extreme rates of suicide, due to extreme workaholism and individual needs are never considered.
Minorities such as gay people and transgender people are very much not respected in japan, and colorism (treating lighter skinned people better than darker skinned ones) is the norm. Many japanese people think that because they never had jim crow laws, its ok for them to be racist towards black people (but they don't think they're being racist). There was a squishy doll of a black person, and after criticism from westerners, the japanese response was basically "you westerners don't understand, its not because we're racist, the stress toy only works when it's ugly".

Yknow, I see a pattern here. Some random person makes a statement or commits an act so horrendous that they should probably be stoned or put to jail, and then another person notices and calls out the "identity" of this horrible person and that "identity" seems to correlate with the community that the right wing really really hates (e.g. Trans/LGBTQ, Flag of an oppressed nation, someone's political stance), so the right wing swarms them like locusts and in turn those community has to pull the weight of the sins of this horrible "person".
