Trigger Warning Er*tic horror recommendations for therapy self-healing? NSFW

I have some very horrific se/ual trauma, which i probably cannot put on reddit as I'll likely get banned.. but I've started to read er/tic horror books as a sort of exposure therapy, I'm also watching films that was literally my life for numerous years till I got free (hostel, skin, I spit on your grave, sl/ughtered v/mit dolls.. to give you an idea 🫠) I've also played cyberpunk 2077 and Evelyn's storyline was very close to my life, but with more cool tech and better clothes ovbs haha.

So I'm looking for books that are not really a romance but more f/ck t/rture m//der kinda thing, or female that takes a g/ry revenge. I have a kindle but I also like getting hardback books so either format is fine with me :)

If it's f//ish/k/nk related, pleaassseeee can it be written by someone who understands what that lifestyle is actually like 😅😆

It's helping me deal with my memories in a more controlled manner as I am starting to draw and paint my emotions or images that are snapshots of what i can remember when I am able to semi regulate an episode.

My goal set by my psychiatrist is to write a book review on 3 scenes and 3 characters that represent my trauma, one of the bad people and a moment of character that reflects my actions in a situation that happened. Comparing fiction to reality, i think their goal is for me to feel proud for surviving, like a hero final girl or to feel brave for still being here but idk, they throw a curveball at me like every session 😆

Sorry if this brought the mood down, i know it seems silly but I'm really proud of the changes I've made in myself and how far I've come from the 'meat market' to now rebuilding my soul :)

Thank youu 🖤

Trigger Warning Suggest me a book that looks innocent but has unexpectedly spicy scenes 🌶️ NSFW

I’m looking for book recommendations that seem pretty innocent based on the title, cover, or storyline, but unexpectedly have some spicy scenes.
Ideally, I want something with a genuinely good plot where the romance or mature content isn’t the main focus. I like the idea of reading something that looks completely normal at work, only to be caught off guard by a scene I wasn’t expecting. 😂
I’d love recommendations that aren’t marketed as romance or erotica but still have those surprising moments.
What books would you suggest, and roughly how far into the story does the unexpected romance show up?

What a good book on the concept of race?

I'd be curious to find a book on the concept of race and the arguments surrounding it. Is it a biological fact? Is it a social construct. How did people come to their views on it?

I'd prefer more of a factual overview rather than one that argues for a specific position. But I don't want a dry, technical read either. Like something that is more of a story we'd be interesting.

  5. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: a dust-bound epic of moral absenteeism
  6. Targets: classic horror found dead in a mass shooting
  7. War and Peace: yes, I've read it
  8. Dead Ringers: two brothers melt into one
  9. Rocco and his Brothers: two brothers shatter into pieces
  10. Blue Velvet: the voyeur of utter destruction as beauty
  11. The Swimmer: glossy delusions of what never was
  12. Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me: the angels have all gone away
  13. Mikey and Nicky: two lonely, repressed, deceitful friends, who just happen to be hitmen
  14. Citizen Kane: it can't be love, for there is no true love
  15. Theatre of Blood: Vincent Price's gonzo revenge, Shakespeare style
  16. Tenebre: giallo holding a mirror back on itself
  17. Sexy Beast: toxic v healthy masculinity, death battle
  18. Eyes Without a Face: a dark fairy tale
  19. Black Dynamite: smoove and silly, you can dig it
  20. Hour of the Wolf: a woman strives to save her husband from his own painted demons

The concept of a secret, night only art market run by anonymous painters... does anything like this exist, or what books capture this vibe best?

I’ve been fascinated by the idea of an underground art circuit specifically, anonymous artists selling paintings exclusively at night in very specific city locations (like a hidden side of Rome).

Do you know if there are real world historical parallels to something like this? Also, if you’ve read any novels featuring this kind of secret art scene or atmospheric urban mystery, I’d love some recommendations!

Gift for friend/family/etc.

Romance looking for a billionaire romance

Hi! I’m looking for a billionaire romance, with just the usual works where mmc wants fmc to max out his cards and help her with her self esteem (if applicable), just a sweet overpowering “Just name it and I’ll do it” plot, if that makes sense? Bonus points if there’s a good banter scenario constantly in between.

I distinctively remember reading Between Love and Loathing by Shain Rose, and it was cute but I need something with more oomph; please and thank you!

The first two Shadows of the Leviathan books by Robert Jackson

I've also listened to all the books available for

The NPCs series and 5-minute Sherlock both by Drew Hayes

A good handful of Hercule Poirot books by Agatha Christie

Some Sherlock Holmes stories on the noisier podcast

Most of the Arsène Lupin books

Finally, All-Star Superman

Thanks in Aadvance for any suggestions you may have.

Gift for friend/family/etc. Book for a man in his early twenties to get into reading for fun

My friend has never read a book for pure entertainment. He usually tries to read incredibly high brow non-fiction books (Platon, Freud) because he feels like he "should", only to abandon them because he gets bored and frustrated. I want to show him reading can be fun and need something exciting and easy to get into. The shows he loves are: Peaky blinders, Prison break, Vikings, You, The walking dead, Lupin, Lucifer. So I'm thinking something fast-paced, related to crime and intrigue, with clever protagonists. Ideally not a multi-book series or too many pages for obvious reasons.

This is not my genre at all so I'm thankful for any suggestions!

Any genre! Reminiscent of a Disney vacation

I just got back from vacation and already miss it. Please help me find a book that could be somewhat related. Could be about amusement parks, retellings, or really anything.

I've already read the Dreamland Billionaires series by Lauren Asher and Maeve Fly by CJ Leede.

Very inhuman AI characters, sentient machines

I would love any novels/short stories that have an AI character described in a way that makes it clear it's not human. A fundamentally different, electronic species, not even made of the same elements as other living beings. I want it to feel and think in alien machine ways that are noticeable and reflected in the writing.

Hoping mostly for AI without a humanoid robot body, but I'm interested in any machine beings.

I'm open to any suggestions! Other kinds of media too.

History Historic fiction or narrative nonfiction with women as focal point

I haven’t read many historic fiction/non fiction so i’m not completely sure what i’d like!
I enjoyed the nonfictions “A Gypsy in Auschwitz” by Otto Rosenberg and “Educated” by Tara Westover.
I usually read thrillers or high emotion books. I’m seeking something with a good audiobook option to listen to in the car!

My ideal book is a light romcom with a 40+, independent fmc that takes place at a cozy, haunted new England seaside hotel.

I did search the sub and didn't see quite what I was looking for. I did check out North Woods by Dan Mason this morning.

I'm sure this sounds similar to a gothic novel but I'm thinking more warm and cozy and light than what I associate with the term "gothic novel" (I DNF Rebecca twice).

After listening to the audiobook of "the wedding people" by Allison Espach , I enjoyed the 40 year old fmc very much as well as the new England seaside village setting. I thought "gee, I'd like another book like this but maybe with some spookiness or mystery as well!"

I listen to audiobooks while I walk, so bonus points if it's a good audio adaptation!

Any genre! looking for books about possession/body swapping (horror/thriller/etc.)

Hi all!
Im doing some research for a story Im writing and want some recommendations for books with topics like dual personality or split personalities, body swapping, possession, etc.

Im open to any genre although Im pretty sure most of these will live within horror or thriller, but Id be just as happy reading a non-fiction as well if it can give psychology insight.

Im currently reading The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde which Im really enjoying. Anything similar would get a big thumbs up from me.

Thanks!

Books to read in your 20s / twenties last few days of being a teen, suggest a book to read before my 20's/for my 20's

(tldr at the end)

I usually have something planned before my major milestones (like turning 18), mostly usually to be basic teenage rebellion stuff such as having your first drink, or getting your first tattoo, going on a solo trip unbeknownst to your parents, things like that.

Can't do much this time since I'm stuck with end sems during my birthday welp😅 Honestly, might be the best thing for me since I can take a much better and mature approach while entering an actual adulthood phase.

Not being a teen anymore is scary, and I'd like my last days to be meaningful in some sort of way. Reading books always brought meaning back in my life in ways I previously did not pay heed to. Books have been such an impactful part of my childhood, so I'd like to finish one, preferably something which makes me look at life differently, or in a way that I've never seen before.

TLDR - Scary turning 20, need a book which makes me look at life differently to feel something/ make my last days as a teen meaningful.

Books to read in your 20s / twenties Books every woman should read in her mid-twenties?

I’m looking for book recommendations that you think every woman should read in her mid-twenties. Books that genuinely change your perspective on life, relationships, marriage, womanhood, self-worth, or just growing up and figuring out who you are.
I recently read Strangers: A Memoir of Marriage by Belle Burden, and I’d love to read more books that make you reflect on your own life and the choices you make. I’m open to both fiction and nonfiction, whether it’s a memoir, a novel, or something that completely changes the way you see the world.
I don’t necessarily want typical self-help books. I’d love beautifully written stories, books with real depth, or books that teach you something about being a woman and navigating this stage of life.
What books have genuinely stayed with you or changed the way you think? What do you think every woman in her twenties should read at least once?

Genuinely boring/calm book to read when I wake up in the middle of the night and need something to do without getting hooked.

Insomniac needs something boring to read in the middle of the night that's not too stimulating but better than my refrigerator manual. NOT a page turner.

Simple storyline. Not typically into romance or sci Fi but I'll read whatever.

Non fiction is ok too.

I've also tried boring story podcasts which can be helpful but would like another option.

Romantasy Cozy Funny Romance

I'm a big fan of rom coms, but have yet to read anything similar.

I'm looking for a book that provides that same warm, fuzzy, nostalgic feeling you get when you watch things like You've Got Mail, Notting Hill, or While You Were Sleeping.

Nothing too scintillating please.
