Can we agree that dropping a teaser 6 years ago and still saying its in early development is a moronic move that devs need to stop pulling.

Im looking at you, Bethesda

Come on now, be fair. Bethesda didn't drop a teaser 6 years ago.

Bethesda dropped a teaser 8 years ago! Closer to the release of Skyrim than to the present day

One day your grandchildren will tell their grandchildren about TES: VI.

And how it's coming out any day now.

Its funny they get clowned for this, when it wasn't a teaser; just a "Hey starfield is first, but yes then elder scrolls, we aren't abandoning the game series"

Bethesda, Rockstar, and basically anything Microsoft/Xbox.

There's a reason they're my one of my most hated studios

But hey, let's re-re-re-re-re-release Skyrim Ultra Legendary 2k27 HD 4K Dragonborn Edition, now with MORE user made mods!!

What's crazy is that bethesda actively avoided doing that in the past. Fallout 4 wasn't announced until literally 3 months from release.

Looking at you Elder Scrolls… hasn’t the latest elder scrolls game been like in development for at least 10 years now?

u/Unumbotte 3h ago

What's that you say? You want another Skyrim remaster?

Diamond Platinum Edition: 199.99

Unfortunately Bethesda is like RockStar, they can shit out the same game for over a decade on a different console and they have customers dumb enough to buy it again and again. Otherwise they’d probably shut down too.

Rockstar actually builds innovative technology and games though.

Naughty Dog released TLOU2 at the same time RDR2 came out and R* are much closer to releasing GTA than ND is Intergalactic. 6+ Years later and RDR2 is still the most technically impressive game I've ever played.

Rockstar does anything but innovations. Their games are incredibly stale and formulaic in terms of gameplay, they are just elevated massively by enormous budgets, graphics, animations, massive worlds, and fantastic writing in terms of RDR2.

GTA 5 had dogshit writing and story but it didn't matter since it farms kids and insecure people in the online mode.

Pushing graphical tech forward IS innovation though. The fact that RDR2 came out on Xbox One is nothing short of a technological miracle, same with GTA VI on PS5 from what we've seen.

What innovations are you looking for? Because as far as AAA games go there's not much to "innovate" in terms of gameplay for a game like GTA other than expanding extremely wide in terms of a variety of shit to do and have it all be cohesive.

Also, something like the greet/antagonize system was pretty innovative as a gameplay mechanic IMO.

Rockstar spent more money than it cost to build the burj khalifa to build GTA6.

That kind of shit is how they "push" graphical tech.

Notice how noone really follows what rockstar does? It's because they can't throw obscene amounts of money at the problem.

Saying there isnt much to Innovate is an unprovable claim that is bound to fall flat on your face.

GTA IV and RDR2 were both groundbreaking tech at the time, so the whole "Burj Khalifa" narrative kinda falls flat on its face.

Also, there's countless companies who can throw an obscene amount of money. TTWO only has a $32B market cap which is peanuts compared to MSFT & Sony. It takes genuine innovation/talent to weave together ~6,000 employees worth of features, upgrades and mechanics into a single cohesive new product.

Rockstar also took one of the greatest physics engines ever created and shot it behind the woodshed, they've literally destroyed more innovation than bethesda has created over the last 20 years

u/AirFrierMachine 7h ago

How so? Are you arguing that GTA IV's over the top Looney Tunes ragdoll was so stripped down in RDR2 that it "destroyed innovation"? The ragdolls are just as good, if not better in RDR2 vs GTAIV from what I remember.

Or is this more about driving mechanics/physics? Which again, hard to say that it was "shot behind a woodshed" when we're just looking at a single different iteration that was made with the same Xbox 360 constraints?

I'm genuinely curious.

I was more referring to the original implementation of Euphoria in GTA4, specifically the dynamic reactions of NPCs and animation cycling. Car physics were way too loose but the reactivity when you shoot an NPC and how they interact to disruptions was truly the best the industry has ever seen. Shooting someone in the shoulder would have them grab that spot and continue either running or fighting, or getting drunk would have nico grabbing for surfaces to catch him when he falls. Conversely GTA5 and RTDR2 has way less contextual dynamism and often looked like deliberate flopping and there are no attempts to brace catch or react to what is happening, they sort of just flop like they're in toy story. Euphoria was neutered heavily in GTA5 and RDR2 and the dynamism in 4, though flawed in some ways, was leagues ahead of what we see even today in other titles. It's a shame because Euphoria has a ton of potential and it sounded at the time like they had to dial it back to leave processing headroom in other areas of RDR2 and 5.

Heres a quick video showing the differences between 4 and 5

man GTA4 came out 18 years ago now

What the hell has happened. 18 years before that we didn't even have an FPS game on PC yet.

1

u/ChallengeActive86 5h ago

Crazy right? I remember the midnight release like it was yesterday

1

u/kas-loc2 1h ago

we're just looking at a single different iteration that was made with the same Xbox 360 constraints?

This is literally your own interpretation. Not one developer or producer has said anything remotely close to this at all.

Just you.

1

u/AirFrierMachine 1h ago

How is that "my interpretation"? We've had 1 single GTA game since the peak in GTA IV that OP was referring to. Everything I said was factual.

1

u/kas-loc2 1h ago

Oh cool, you should easily be able to provide sources for exact quotes specifying and verifying your claims then, if its factual?

Right?

Right???

1

u/AirFrierMachine 1h ago

Hey genius, what specific "claims" of mine are you looking for quotes to verify?

1

u/kas-loc2 52m ago

That the physics are the byproduct of the consoles.

When we literally had greater, more advanced physics on the same console with gta 4

Bethesda is worse at innovating come on now

1

u/matco5376 5h ago

Yeah the real issue with Rockstar is they’re just a shit company. Very anti consumer and poor working conditions historically. People just keep buying their games because they aren’t flops like the rest of the AAA industry.

3

u/TichoSlicer 7h ago

another one that should be destroyed long ago already ¯_(ツ)_/¯

u/SgtMajorPanda 6h ago

I’m looking at you, CIG

Each time they find a new platform to release skyrim on, ES6 gets pushed out a few more years. We'll never see it if they start releasing skyrim on your smart fridge.
