News/Article Bombshell lawsuit alleges that RAM manufacturers are colluding to drive up prices. Three companies that account for 90% of RAM revenue are being sued for anti-competitive practices. Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron (the "DRAM Triarchy" controlling ~90-95% of the global DRAM market)

“Snitch”? Bruh, they’re the one doing us all a favour in that scenario

Sure. Daylight is a disinfectant for corruption - but never lose sight of the fact that a company has no human sense of right and wrong.

This is still a strategic play for advantage.

Did I say any of that? Whether it was merely stochastic alignment, or not - it was still a good thing for the public that they decided to snitch - regardless of the motives.

The motives must be regarded though. That’s why I brought my contribution forward.

Not all Reddit comments are a direct attack. Sometimes we’re just adding stuff to the stew.

My point was that labelling a whistleblower as a “snitch” is incredibly stupid. If someone wants to criticise them for taking part in the first place, then go ahead - call them out for unethical business practices. But labelling them as a snitch focuses on the complete wrong thing - and frames the situation in a way that singles them out as a particular bad actor within the group.

Most of these people were not alive during that time, remember you're on reddit.

No matter how users try to spin it, what Micron did back then was good for us and anyone into computers will forever remember them for it. I know that'll blow the mind of everyone on reddit who believes every business strictly operates by a standard business directive.

I understand the use of the word though. And it’s accurate. A snitch only tells for personal benefit. A whistleblower tells for civic good.

The society gets similar outcomes, but we have these 2 different labels for a reason.

They aren’t doing anyone any favors, this is more a competitive thing

The word applies in all circumstances, even when it's ultimately for the best or such. Doesn't change the meaning.

Nah, it's an American company. The DOJ went to them first and cut a deal. Micron aren't the good guys. One of the executives, Alfred Censullo, was sentenced to six month house detention only because he obstructed justice by altering and not providing documents requested by the grand jury.

Also note, no one went to jail regarding the price fixing and the theft from consumers.

Did you miss the part where they participated? They wanted to fuck over their competitors, so they ratted them out.

Like cool, yea, we busted that price fixing scheme. Way to go. They were still a part of it, and are a part of it again.

Yes, but why focus the negative connotation on the fact that they blew the whistle? It’s prescribing the condemnation to the completely wrong aspect of the situation.

u/TechnoFascismKills Jun 30 '26

Nah, not focusing on it. Just not ignoring it as a "Way to go, Micron, you did good, Micron, you're a good company, Micron!"

They were engaged in a price fixing scheme. Sure, they told us about it, but probably only because it was beneficial to them. Still scumbag Corpo Rats.

u/UnknownBreadd Jun 30 '26

Yes, but why would your instant reaction to finding out that there was a price fixing scheme be “so, Micron was the snitch?” ??? Like as if that makes it somehow worse for Micron?

I’m not saying it makes it better, but why would you be especially concerned with who the “snitch” was??

“so, Micron was the snitch?”

Bro read the usernames of who you reply to. That wasn't me.

/u/iNfANTcOMA_0 is the one who said that. I came in saying "Did you miss the part where they participated?"

We're two different people, with two different points, and you're conflating us.

Sorry but thats copium. Until you actually see prices drop dramatically because of this, nothign has happened.

Micron only pointed this out because they got screwed over by the other part of the cartel lol.
