I just wanted a hot dog My new reality

Post image

I have IBS and therefore have to severly limit my diet. Mind you half the stuff on this list is food I really enjoy eating, or is virtually included in everything 🙃 the universe said you WILL eat that boiled chicken and rice and you WILL LIKE IT

As someone who was originally diagnosed with IBS, I would highly encourage you to find a functional medicine doctor and do some advanced stool testing. Standard docs don’t do that kind of testing and insurance doesn’t cover it. IBS is a catch all for when they can’t figure out what’s wrong with you.

But I actually had some bacteria overgrowth, infections, parasites, and needed some gut healing. My diet used to be very restrictive, and now I can pretty much eat anything.

To anyone reading this, please, please do not follow this advice. Functional medicine is a pseudoscience. Just because traditional doctors don’t always have the answers doesn’t mean you should listen to snake oil salesmen who pretend they do.

I’ve seen way too many patients harmed and their pockets drained by functional medicine / naturopaths.

Eh, in conjunction with conventional medicine it can be beneficial. But I would only trust the physician if they an integrative medicine degree cause they’re a licensed MD.

Functional or integrative medicine is not pseudoscience in itself, but it can be a code word for alt medicine/pseudoscientific methods. I'm a scientist myself and I appreciate evidence-based integrative practices in primary care or pain management for considering whole body treatment (for autoimmune disease, for example) rather than siloed symptom management. Holistic approach =/= pseudoscience.
