I'm slightly vexed Taxi driver wearing noise cancelling headphones while driving in the city

Post image

Look I’m PMSing so I’m admittedly in a very nit picky time of my life. But. Don’t love weaving in and out of traffic in a major city while the taxi driver has noice cancelling headphones on. The sound is loud enough I can hear whatever (moderately funny) comedy show he’s listening to in the backseat. This is ill advised, yes?

ETA thanks to everyone who taught me about transparent mode today :)

ETA2 : Okay, I’m the asshole, comments have shown me there’s lots that could be going on with the driver to make him need to use these and there’s way he could do so safely. Mea culpa. That’ll teach me to knee jerk react.

Would you refuse a deaf taxi driver? Because deaf people can get a drivers license

Its illegal to drive with headphones on in many states.

Which makes no sense when you think about it, because driving around with a cranked stereo is no different. Or driving in a quiet luxury car with a stereo at a normal volume.

Honestly it's not even luxury cars any more. My current and last couple of cars were pretty average (but newer) and were very quiet.

It’s massively different and the fact you even said this is absolutely fucking moronic

There's absolutely no difference. If I hear 0% of what's outside, I hear 0%. If I crank my stereo I could have someone honk a horn or an ambulance siren outside my car, and I wouldn't hear it. Which is why ambulances and police cars also have flashing lights.

And yes I have driven for 30 years, and I have a degree in physics. And a really well-insulated car.

True but its a lot harder to get to 0%.

It would hurt my ears to use a stereo to get to 0% hearing outside vs with headphones its very very easy to get to 0%

Yeah but headphones also aren’t completely isolating all sound.
