I'm slightly vexed Taxi driver wearing noise cancelling headphones while driving in the city

Post image

Look I’m PMSing so I’m admittedly in a very nit picky time of my life. But. Don’t love weaving in and out of traffic in a major city while the taxi driver has noice cancelling headphones on. The sound is loud enough I can hear whatever (moderately funny) comedy show he’s listening to in the backseat. This is ill advised, yes?

ETA thanks to everyone who taught me about transparent mode today :)

ETA2 : Okay, I’m the asshole, comments have shown me there’s lots that could be going on with the driver to make him need to use these and there’s way he could do so safely. Mea culpa. That’ll teach me to knee jerk react.

Would you refuse a deaf taxi driver? Because deaf people can get a drivers license

Its illegal to drive with headphones on in many states.

There’s only 8 states where it’s illegal to drive with headphones, and another 6 where it’s limited. Far more states allow it than prohibit it.

True, but those 8 states account for more than half of the US population. I think thats worth mentioning.

According to Gemini, those 8 states make up 23% of the US population. If you include states like NY and Illinois that allow single ear devices but only for communication that goes up to 47%

The laws are kind of messed up and out of date. Of the 8 states that ban headphones, only two seem to have any restriction on the use of single ear devices. Those were probably not contemplated when the laws were passed. The other six allow single ear devices for any purpose by exclusion.

Like most things, it's pretty much a hodgepodge of laws.

Lol stupid gemini. I used gemini too. It gave me a figure of about 178 million vs 150 million.

LOL it is laughable. But I don't really quote it. I generally ask it for sources and then read the sources.
