Don't hug me I'm scared ordered grubhub at 6am before work
throw back to when i ordered grubhub at 6am before work because i didn’t have time to cook before i left the house and wanted to take it with me. came downstairs to grab it since i had roommates and i didn’t wanna wake them in case they rang the door bell. driver asked me if i was eating alone and what i was up to, and then stared at me as i was going back up the stairs🙃. then checked my phone and got this message.
anyway haven’t used grubhub since.
edit: omg yall are miserable. no, a 40 year old man should not be trying to get at a 19 year old woman at her home while delivering food. especially after ogling them down, asking if they’re alone and all while the sun hasn’t even risen. please look inwards and stop being weirdos

They always do that. They say some bullshit, thinking people will agree with them, then after they get downvoted to hell, they realize people actually are not on their side and they are losing their precious reddit karma, so they deleted their comment. Miserable truly, reminds me of the government banning all the news about the 1992 Moon replacement that changed everything

I had a locksmith ask to use the restroom in my home after I got locked out, and I wanted to be nice and say yes which was a mistake. Dude lingered in my house for like 10 minutes, so horribly awkward. My response forevermore will be that my water is shut off ig
I go to shake his hand after I pay (in my mind a way to say "ok we're done now, thank you, goodbye") and he like, pulls my hand back for just a split second and tells me how strong my grip is. Then he asked how old I am, and when I tell him, says I look younger. Then he peeked around the corner into my room and asked if he could watch me work??? (Edit for clarification: I work from home and have my home office and bed in the same room, the room he was looking into)
When I go to physically leave while still talking to him to herd this man out of my home (10 minutes have gone by at this point trying to get him out of my house) I have a bra hanging in the door since I need to return it. Wasn't exactly expecting company. He picks it up and comments on the size.
Finally get the dude to leave and am beyond creeped out, mostly bc this is a locksmith who knows where I live who's acting like this. I tell this story to a few groups of friends and acquaintances and pretty much all of them are thoroughly creeped out. But one dude who's sort of a friend of a friend said "he shouldn't have done it like that but don't you feel for guys like that? What if this is the only time they meet women, do you just want them to die alone or something?"
And my stance after so many fuckass encounters with creepy dudes has become yeah, if this is the way you behave at your job then fully, just die alone lmao.
145
u/spaghettifiasco 11h ago
"What if this is the only time they meet women?"
Then they can take the initiative to find more time! Jesus christ!
55
u/Pretend-Marsupial258 8h ago
Hey, man. Women make up only 50% of the population so they're super rare and hard to find. It's like finding a shiny Chansey.
69
u/Procrastinista_423 11h ago
That is beyond beyond creepy. I hope he never bothered you again.
57
u/Pittsbirds 10h ago
It's been a couple months and so far, no. I did get a security system after that (I've had a past, really negative experience with a man following me home that's made me a little more cautious than most people about this kind of stuff) but I've not seen him since.
I would say to stay away from Key.Me for locksmithing purposes, that's where this guy was from. Id been locked out in the summer heat for hours so I didn't do my due diligence and realize they're like the Uber of locksmiths, it's made leaving any sort of meaningful negative feedback to the company or for other potential customers pretty difficult

"Shooting your shot" at a woman you know literally nothing about indicates that your criteria for dating is 1) female, 2) alive. Most women aren't going to be particularly flattered with this knowledge, especially if "3) age appropriate" is apparently not included in those criteria.
And if your opening line is "hey are you in a vulnerable position right now," that's incredibly creepy.

Used to work in a gas station in the evening. A dude comes in while im dealing with a long line, tries shooting his shot, I turn him down. He comes back inside and tries it again. I tell him in happily taken and he goes "he doesnt have to know" and tried to ask for my number.
He showed back up a few hours later when I was doing trash and again asked for my number. I snapped. Never seen him again.

I posted last night about something that happened to me through Amazon. I haven't checked the post because I feel like 90% of the comments are going to be against me.
I had a package out for delivery and it was 830pm and I had completely forgotten about it. I got in the shower for a measly 10 minutes and ofc as soon as I do, that's when the driver shows up. They repeatedly buzzed my bell I swear to God on everything I know and love almost 200 times. Not like buzzzzzzzz buzzzzzzzz buzzzzzzzz but like buzz buzz buzz buzz buzzzzzzzzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzzz buzz. So it added up quickly but it is the most insane unhinged shit I have ever dealt with in my entire fucking life of ordering and possibly in general.
Called me multiple times. Disturbed my entire building and family. It was under my name and I've now changed everything on all accounts we have as my husband's name. If it had been under his name to begin with, I am so sure this never would have happened. We also carry and will protect our home but I guess they didn't think about that either when they traumatized my neighbors and my family and myself because they think I am just a smol little girl. I am still so upset about it.
37
44
u/Abragram_Stinkin 17h ago
Was this a package that needed to be signed for? If so, odds are that delivery driver just wanted their shift to be done. Since they have to reattempt delivery 3x for signed packages, that driver didn’t want to come back again two more nights in a row.

u/krisyun1 17h ago

I honestly think saying "can we be friends" comes off so much creepier than just saying something weird 😭 like it's feigning innocence to try to get a positive response when they obviously have worse intentions. Doing anything but delivering the food is way out the fucking bounds of what's acceptable but asking to "be friends" with a girl he knows is young feels so manipulative and predatory it makes my fucking skin crawl.
→ More replies (1)47
u/BusinessScientist898 13h ago edited 12h ago
Shooting your shot: asking a girl in your age range out at a normal place and time.
Not shooting your shot: asking a girl half your age if she is alone while standing at her front door at 6am, then later texting the same girl “can we be friends” through a food delivery app. That’s something the bad guy in a scary movie would do.
You’re right it’s manipulative and creepy regardless of the context because clearly he doesn’t just want to be friends. You’re not fooling anyone by texting something like that.
I’m a 40 year old dude. If another stranger just randomly said “can we be friends” out of the blue, I would be weirded the fuck out even if I thought he actually just wanted to just be friends. Because that’s not how normal people make friends. It’s what creeps say when they have no social boundaries and think they’re being slick.
14
u/Commercial_Will404 12h ago
Yeah I was gonna say he wouldn't message a woman his age this because he knows she would see right through that shit and find it weird. He's purposely using her age against her and hoping she's naive enough to think he's maybe just a sad lonely guy and take pity on him. It's rooted in manipulation and grooming.
204
u/Sir_Lobo_Bellaco YELLOW 18h ago
just why? Delivering food is such a simple task, it doesn't need to be creepy too. 🤮

u/bawdiepie 17h ago

u/mondaymoderate 18h ago
This happens so much with woman it’s crazy. I recommend any women using these apps to use a very masculine name and request they leave it at the door. If you use a feminine name they will still force you to open the door and talk with them.
12
u/quiteCryptic 13h ago
I use grubhub often due a credit I get with it, but i've got a male name and checked the leave at door option and ive never ever had anyone ever not just leave it at the door and go.
So I guess I recommend doing that.
OP did explain why they didn't choose that option, but in my experience they don't knock most of the time they just leave it at the door.
57
u/secret-identitties 9h ago

You don't owe some stranger the benefit of the doubt. This is not a court of law so there is no "innocent until proven guilty" when it comes to your opinion and your sense of your own safety.
Contact customer service and tell them that you do not want this guy to be able to accept your orders anymore.

When I initially read the text messages, I thought the driver was just being a bit goofy and breaking up the usual routine of impersonal texts when they were dropping off your food.... Then, I read the description... yeah, that's super fucking creepy. Handing you your food, asking if you were alone, and then sending this message after meeting you is so disconcerting.

End all be all, a service worker should never extend beyond the boundaries of their job. Do your job and go home it's not that hard. I drive for Ubereats all the time and never have ever thought about reaching out to a customer beyond the service interaction. That also goes backwards, I still find it weird when men leave their phone numbers on checks at restaurants and what not.

Something similar happened to me with an Uber ride!! The driver was making small talk about recently immigrating to the US and not having friends yet around my city because people here don’t like immigrants. He then asked if he could be my friend.
I have friends that are immigrants, I think ICE is awful and needs to be abolished, and people can be fking asinine to anyone that has English as their second language. But also, I met you 10 minutes ago and we are in YOUR car Sir. I was also 25(f) at the time, and the driver was an older man.
This made me nervous but I said no thank you and the last 5 minutes of the ride was silence. After dropping me off, he STILL sent me a text a few minutes later apologizing and asking if he could keep my number and talk to me. People are lonely and sad, and this breaks my heart. But damn, that’s not really the way to approach people.
