People tip tattoo artists?I mean I tip things outside of restaurants, etc when I know the person is on hourly and does a good job, but largely tattoo artists work at their own rate and take all if not a % of the cost, they just pay a monthly chair cost, etc. so why on earth would I tip for that outside of so thrilled with the work I felt compelled to naturally.

Always felt the same about barbers/hair stylists. Like they set a price, but then expect a tip on top of it. Like just tell me an all inclusive price.

When i go to places like sports clips i tip as they have no control of prices

I didn’t know you were supposed to tip them until I was 19. It didn’t make sense to me but I tip now.

I didn’t know until I was 37 so you’re a head of me lol

Lots of hair stylists and barbers are employees and absolutely do not set their prices. My hair stylist is an example of that. But she’s good at working with the pricing to give me a good discount, so I tip her generously in return. That way she gets my entire tip instead of having to give a portion of it away to the salon.

When my haircut is done, I ask, "How much?" Whatever she tells me is how much I give her. If she wants more, just say a higher number. The lady I go to owns the building.

Yeah my barber owns his building and business so I never stopped to think about tipping. He told me a price and has a sign with his pricing for services. So I assumed that was good enough. And he never said a word about tipping for 10 years 😂.

I didn’t but saw others tipping, so I asked and he said yeah, typically people tip. Soo I started tipping because I didn’t want to be an A-hole.

How much is the barber price and how much did you tip him?

$80 for head shave and beard grooming/trimming. Then I tip $20 on top.

Well no wonder, those are outrageous prices. I'd cut my own hair if those were the prices I had to pay.

Honestly it’s a pain in the ass to shave my head by myself. And my beard grows rapidly, so I can keep it trimmed and decent looking for a week, but kind of nice having him line it all up.

If you don't tip your barber there's something wrong. People say "oh they set their own price". If the owner of the store wants to keep prices down so more people come then typically they can't change the going rate. However, if one barber is better than the others then you'll want to tip them because, why should the barber that cuts your hair the best be given the same amount of money as the guy who sucks at cutting hair?

I'm a better paramedic than a lot of people because I've done it for far to long. I'm phenomenal with IVs and was part of a critical access team at a major hospital. Should I go around with a card machine asking for tips because I only poked you once instead of the 13 times that happened yesterday? We all get paid the same.

And you even saved my life. If ANYONE deserves tips in the idiocy that is the US its paramedics and nurses...

My friend. I am not American. Please stop justifying your deranged tipping culture to me. The rest of the world does not do that. Maybe you are the only ones that solved this mistery. Or maybe vice versa.

Because they agreed to that setup of their own free will? I mean I'm not against tipping in this situation but it's not like the better barber is being punished or something.

There's something wrong with you

I tip people. While I agree tipping culture has gotten out of control, i still believe that people deserved to be tipped in certain professions if they do a good job.

In my case.. he owns his shop, with no other barbers there. So he legitimately sets his own prices.
